⁵ Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

³⁰ Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her.

³ Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, of Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended by him.

³⁹ The wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is at liberty to marry whom she wishes; only in the Lord.

¹⁹ But of the other apostles I saw none, except James, the Lord's brother.

² An overseer must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, respectable, given to hospitality, able to teach;

³ Forbidding marriage, and commanding abstinence from foods which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

² The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.

⁶ Elders must be blameless, the husband of one wife, whose children believe and are not accused of being profligate or unruly.

⁴ Marriage is to be held in honour by all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled: for the sexually immoral and adulterers God will judge.
