⁴ Do we not have the right to eat and to drink?

¹⁰ Nor bag for your journey, nor two coats, nor sandals, nor a staff: for the workman is worthy of his food.

⁷ Remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.

⁷ Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? who plants a vineyard, and does not eat of its fruit? or who feeds a flock, and does not drink of the milk of the flock? ⁸ Do I say these things merely on human authority? or does not the law say the same? ⁹ For it is written in the law of Moses, You shall not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treads out the grain. Is God concerned about oxen? ¹⁰ Or does he say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes it is written: that he who plows should plow in hope; and he who threshes should thresh in hope of a share of the crop. ¹¹ If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? ¹² If others share this rightful claim upon you, do we not have a greater claim? Nevertheless, we have not used this right, but endure all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Do you not know that those who perform the temple services eat the food of the temple? and those who serve at the altar share what is offered at the altar? ¹⁴ In the same way the Lord ordained that those who preach the gospel should live by the gospel.

⁶ Let him who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches.

⁶ Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have asserted our authority, as the apostles of Christ.

⁹ For you remember, brethren, our toil and hardship: we laboured night and day, because we did not want to burden any of you as we preached to you the gospel of God.

⁸ Nor did we eat any man's bread without paying; but with labour and toil we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you: ⁹ Not because we do not have the right, but to make ourselves an example for you to follow.

¹⁷ Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in preaching and teaching. ¹⁸ For the scripture says, You shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his wages.
