¹ Now when Jesus had been born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, lo! there came magians from the East to Jerusalem,

²⁵ and he knew her not till she had brought forth a son: and he called his name Jesus.

³ But when Herod the king heard of these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;

⁵ And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea; for thus it is written by the prophet:

¹⁹ But when Herod was dead, lo! an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

⁵ There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariah, of the course of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, ⁵ to be registered with Mary who had been betrothed to him, who was with child. ⁶ And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days for her delivery were completed. ⁷ And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swathingclothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

¹¹ for to you hath been born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, who is the Christ, the Lord.

¹⁵ And it came to pass, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said one to another, Let us go at once to Bethlehem, and see that which hath come to pass, which the Lord hath made known to us.

⁴² Hath not the Scripture said, that the Christ cometh from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?
