²⁹ And they rose up, and forced him out of the city and took him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, to cast him down headlong;

³⁷ I know that ye are Abrahams offspring; but ye seek to kill me, because my word is not received within you.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath spoken to you the truth, which I heard from God; this did not Abraham.

⁵⁹ They therefore took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus concealed himself, and went out of the temple.

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other man hath done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this cometh to pass, that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their Law: "They hated me without a cause."

⁵⁷ And they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord; ⁵⁸ and having cast him out of the city, they stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul;

²³ and when they had laid on them many stripes, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely; ²⁴ who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

²⁸ crying out, Men of Israel, help! This is the man that teacheth every one everywhere against the people, and the Law, and this place; and besides he even brought Greeks into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place. ²⁹ For they had before seen with him in the city Trophimus, the Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple. ³⁰ And the whole city was in motion, and the people ran together; and they laid hold of Paul and dragged him out of the temple; and forthwith the doors were shut. ³¹ And while they were endeavoring to kill him, tidings came up to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar; ³² who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. And seeing the chief captain and the soldiers, they left off beating Paul.
