³⁰ For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and some are falling asleep.

³⁶ For David, after having in his own generation served the will of God, fell asleep, and was added to his fathers, and saw corruption;

³² but when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep; but we shall all be changed,

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then also will God, through Jesus, bring again with him those who have fallen asleep.

⁵ and ye have forgotten the exhortation, which reasoneth with you as with sons: "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when reproved by him; ⁶ for whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth; and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." ⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he, whom the father chasteneth not? ⁸ But if ye are without chastening, of which all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we were chastened by the fathers of our flesh, and we gave them reverence; shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened us, according as it seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now all chastening for the present indeed seemeth to be not joyous, but grievous; but afterward it yieldeth the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.
