²⁴ Pilate saw that he could do nothing. The people were ready to cause much trouble. He took water and washed his hands in front of the people. He said: »The blood of this man is not on my hands. You are responsible.«

⁵⁴ The centurion and those who were with him watching Jesus saw the earthquake. Filled with much fear of the things that were done, they proclaimed: »Truly, this was the Son of God!«

¹⁸ »I will go to my father and say: ‘Father I have sinned against God and against you. ¹⁹ »I am not fit to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired workers.’

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

⁷ Be subject to God! Resist [Satan] the Devil and he will flee from you.
