¹⁰ This is primarily for those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble at glorious ones but speak abusively.

⁶ »I will not join in their secret talks. I will not take part in their meetings. They killed people in anger. They crippled bulls for sport.

²⁸ »Do not curse God. Do not curse a ruler of your people.

³⁰ »Any who sin deliberately, natives or foreigners, are guilty of treating Jehovah with contempt. They shall be put to death.

¹² Then Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab. But they said: »We will not come! ¹³ »Is it not enough that you brought us out of a land flowing with milk and honey only to kill us in the desert? Do you also have to order us around? ¹⁴ »You have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us any fields and vineyards to own. Do you think you can still pull the wool over our eyes? We will not come.« ¹⁵ Moses became angry and said to Jehovah: »Do not accept their offering. I have not taken anything from them, not even a donkey. And I have not mistreated any of them.«

²⁰ »They shall say to the elders of his city: This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious! He will not obey us! He is a glutton and a drunkard. ²¹ »All the men of his city shall stone him to death. In that way you will remove the evil from your midst. All Israel will hear about it and fear.

¹² »The man who acts presumptuously and does not listen to the priest or the judge will die. This way you will purge the evil from Israel. The priests and judges are there to serve Jehovah your God. ¹³ »Then all the people will hear and be afraid. They will not act presumptuously again.

²⁷ Some good-for-nothing people asked: »How can this man save us?« They despised him and would not bring him presents. He did not respond.

¹ A worthless character named Sheba son of Bikri lived at Gilgal. He was of the tribe of Benjamin. He blew the trumpet and called out: »Down with David! We will not follow him! Men of Israel, let us go home!«

¹⁶ When all Israel realized that the king would not respond to their request, the people in answer said to the king: »What share do we have in David? What is our heritage in the son of Jesse? To your tents, O Israel; now see to your people, David.« So Israel went away to their tents.

¹ Why do the nations conspire together and rage? Why do the peoples plot in vain? ² The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against Jehovah and against his Anointed One. ³ They say: »Let us break their chains of control and throw off their oppressive rule.« ⁴ The One who dwells in heaven laughs. Jehovah scoffs at them. ⁵ Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his rage (fury). He says:

⁴ They say: »We will overcome with our tongues. With lips such as ours, who can be our master?«

⁶ Craziness is set in many exalted places, and the rich sit in low places. ⁷ I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking like servants upon the earth.

²⁰ Do not curse the king, no not even in thought. Do not curse the rich in your bedchamber for a bird of the air will carry the voice, and that which has wings will tell the matter.

³¹ »O you people of this generation consider the word of Jehovah! Have I been a wilderness, a land of thick darkness, for Israel? Why do my people say that they are free to wander around and no longer come to me?

¹⁴ »His citizens hated him. They sent a spokesman to him saying we do not want this man to rule us.

⁵ Then Paul said, »I did not know, brothers, that he was the high priest. It is written: You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your people.«

²⁴ God gave them up to uncleanness because of the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves. ²⁵ They changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creation more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. ²⁶ For this cause God gave them up to vile affections for even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature. ²⁷ Also the men left the natural use of the woman and burned in their lust, one toward another; men with men working that which is obscene. They receive full recompense due for their error.

¹ Those who live through (in union with) (because of) Jesus Christ have no condemnation. [They do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.]

⁴ God did this so that the righteous requirements of the Law might be fully satisfied in us who live according to the Spirit, and not according to human nature. ⁵ They who live according to flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh. They who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

¹² So then, brothers we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to flesh (human nature), ¹³ for if you live according to flesh, you are about to die. If by the Spirit, you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

¹ Let every person be subject to superior authorities. For there is no authority except by God. God allows the authorities to serve in their positions. ² Whoever opposes the authority resists the ordinance of God. Those who resist will receive judgment. ³ For rulers are objects of fear, not to good works, but to the evil. Will you not have respect for the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from it. ⁴ He is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid for he does not bear the sword in vain. He is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil. ⁵ You must be in subjection, not only because of that wrath, but also for the sake of your conscience.

⁹ Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor people who worship idols, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,

³ For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

¹⁹ They are past feeling. They have given themselves over to loose conduct, to work all uncleanness with greediness (a lust for more).

⁵ For you know this with certainty, that no fornicator, no unclean person, no covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁵ Make your members that are upon the earth dead with regard to fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness (greed), which is idolatry.

⁷ For God has not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness.

⁷ The overseer must be blameless as God's steward. He must not be self-willed, not prone to anger, not a brawler, and not violent (quarrelsome) (pugnacious), not greedy of dishonest gain.

⁴ Let marriage be honorable among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled: for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.

¹³ Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it is to the king, ¹⁴ or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do good.

³ Know this first, that in the last days, mockers will come with mockery, walking after their own lusts,

¹⁶ These murmur, complain, and walk after their lusts, they speak arrogantly, flattering people to gain advantage.

¹⁸ They said to you: In the last time there will be mockers (scoffers), walking after their own ungodly lusts.

⁴ Certain men crept in unnoticed. They were appointed long ago for this condemnation. These ungodly men turned the grace of our God into loose conduct. They deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

⁶ Angels who did not keep their position left their proper habitation. He has kept them in everlasting bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. ⁷ Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them are an example for they, in like manner with these surrendered to fornication and went after flesh for unnatural use. They received justice by ever burning fire. ⁸ In like manner these men also in their dreams defile the flesh, reject authority and speak evil of glorious ones.

¹⁰ These men speak abusively about things they do not know. What they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason, they corrupt themselves.
