¹ Having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness with deep reverence for God.

⁹ He told them: »Faithfully serve Jehovah!

⁹ The reverence of Jehovah is pure. It endures forever. The decisions of Jehovah are true. They are completely fair.

¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast (dependable) spirit within me.

⁹ How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word.

¹³ »Respect for Jehovah means to hate evil. I hate: pride, and arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.

⁹ Who can say: »I have made my heart clean. I am pure from my sin?«

⁶ Sin is atoned by loving kindness and truth. Respect for Jehovah keeps one away from evil.

¹² There is a generation pure in their own eyes, and yet not washed from their filthiness.

¹⁶ »Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to Jehovah, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

¹⁴ »O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts lodge within you?

²⁷ »I have seen you commit adultery and scream with delight. I have seen you act like a brazen prostitute on the hills and in the fields. How hideous it will be for you, Jerusalem! Will you ever be clean?«

³⁰ ‘»That is why I will judge each of you by what you have done, people of Israel, declares the Lord Jehovah. Change the way you think and act. (Repent!) Turn away from all the rebellious things that you have done so that you will not fall into sin. ³¹ ‘»Give up all the evil you have been doing. Get yourselves new minds and hearts. Why do you Israelites want to die? ³² ‘»I do not want anyone to die,’ says the Lord Jehovah. ‘Turn away from (repent of) your sins and live.’«

²⁵ »I will sprinkle clean water on you and make you clean instead of unclean. Then I will cleanse you from all your idols. ²⁶ »I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your stubborn hearts and give you obedient hearts.

⁴⁸ »Be perfect (mature), even as your Father in heaven is perfect (mature). (Leviticus 19:2)

³³ »Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt. The fruit a tree produces provides its reputation.

³⁹ The Lord said: »You Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter. Yet your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness. ⁴⁰ »You foolish ones. Did he that made the outside also make the inside?

³¹ The congregations throughout all Judea, Galilee and Samaria, were built up. They walked in deep respect for Jehovah and were comforted by the Holy Spirit and continued to grow.

²⁰ The law came that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased God’s loving kindness increased even more.

²⁰ You are bought with a price! Therefore glorify God in your body.

²⁰ All the promises of God in him are yes. Also in his is the Amen, to the glory of God through us.

¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them and be separate (set off) (severed from them) (excluded from them), said Jehovah. Do not touch the unclean thing and I will receive you. (Isaiah 52:11) (Jeremiah 51:45) ¹⁸ I will be a Father to you, and you will be to me sons and daughters, said Jehovah God the Almighty. (Hosea 1:10)

³ We all once lived in the lust of our flesh, indulging the desires (lusts) of the flesh and of the mind. We were by nature children of anger and violent passion, like everyone else.

¹² This is for the perfecting (equipping) (preparing) of the holy ones, for the work of ministering, for the building up of the body of Christ: ¹³ until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown (mature) man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

¹² Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect. But I press on, that I may obtain that for which Christ Jesus also obtained. ¹³ Brothers, I could not yet have obtained it. But one thing I do, I forget the things that are behind, and stretch forward to the things that are ahead. ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Let those of us who are mature have this attitude. If you have a different attitude God will show you how to think.

¹³ May he resolutely strengthen your hearts without blame in holiness before God, our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his holy ones.

⁷ For God has not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness.

²³ May the very God of peace completely sanctify you (make you holy). I pray to God that your entire spiritual being, your mind and body, is preserved blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ While the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear that one of you might come up short and not enter.

¹¹ For the grace (divine influence) of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all men, ¹² instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present age (world) (period of time). ¹³ Look for the blessed hope and appearance of the glory of the great God. And look for our Savior, Jesus Christ. ¹⁴ He (Jesus Christ) gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify a people for himself, who are special people, zealous for good works.

²³ to the general assembly and congregation of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just (righteous) (holy) men made perfect (mature) (having all needed qualities).

²⁸ Let us be thankful, because we will receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Let us be grateful and worship (serve) (intensely adore) God in a way that will please him, with reverence and awe.

²² You have purified your hearts by obeying the truth. You have genuine affection for the brothers and sisters. So always love one another intensely (extremely) (deeply) from the heart.

¹¹ Beloved, I request that you as aliens and strangers abstain from fleshly lust (desires), which causes conflict in you.

⁶ Include self-control with your knowledge. Supply patience to your self-control. Your patience should be helped by godliness. ⁷ Add brotherly kindness to your godliness. And to your brotherly kindness add love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound in you they will keep you from being inactive or unfruitful regarding the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁷ If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

⁸ Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded (uncertain) (doubter) (skeptic).

¹⁰ After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect, establish, and strengthen you.

⁴ He offered us his precious and exceedingly great promises. Through these you may become partakers of the divine nature. You will escape from the corruption that is in the lust-filled world. ⁵ Yes, for this very reason you do your part with all diligence. Supply virtue to your faith. Add knowledge to your virtue.

³ Everyone who has this hope in him is purified. He is pure.
