¹ Do not rebuke (censure) (criticize) an elder, but appeal to him as a father, the younger men as brothers.

⁸ »Do not be called Rabbi (master) (teacher) (leader), for only one is your teacher. You are all brothers.

²³ When they had ordained elders in every congregation they prayed with fasting. They commended them to God, on whom they believed.

⁴ Then they went to Jerusalem where the apostles and elders and congregation greeted them. They declared all the things that God had done for them.

⁶ The apostles and elders came together to consider this matter.

¹⁷ At Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the congregation to him.

⁷ Render therefore to all their due. Provide tribute to whom tribute is due. Give custom to whom custom is owed. Render fear to whom fear is owed and offer honor to whom honor is deserved.

¹¹ When Cephas came to Antioch, I openly resisted him because he was completely wrong. ¹² He ate with the people of the nations until some men James sent arrived. When they arrived, he drew back and separated himself. He feared those who were of the circumcised people. ¹³ The rest of the Jews were hypocrites with him, so much that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ I saw that they did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the good news. Therefore I said to Cephas, in front of them all: »If you, being a Jew, live as the nations do and not as the Jews, why do you compel the people of the nations to live like the Jews?«

¹ Brothers, if someone is caught in any kind of wrongdoing, those of you who are spiritual should set him right. But you must do it in a gentle way. And keep an eye on yourselves, so that you will not be tempted, too.

¹⁷ Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.

¹⁹ Do not offer an accusation against an elder, except at the mouth of two or three witnesses. ²⁰ Reprove the sinner in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.

²⁴ The Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind (gentle) to all, able to teach, and patient when wronged. ²⁵ He should instruct those who oppose using meekness. Perhaps God will give them repentance that they may know the truth.

⁵ I left you in Crete for this purpose, that you should correct the things that were defective, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave you orders. ⁶ A blameless man will be the husband of one wife. He will have children that believe and who are not accused of violence and disobedience.

² Aged men should be temperate, serious, sound in mind, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.

⁶ Urge the younger men to be sound in mind.

⁹ Because of love I appeal to you, since I am Paul, the aged. I am also a prisoner of Christ Jesus. ¹⁰ I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my imprisonment.

¹⁴ Is any among you sick? Let him call the elders of the congregation. Let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of God.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable (yielding), full of mercy and good fruits, without discord (partiality), without hypocrisy.

¹ I exhort the elders among you. I too am an older man and a witness of the sufferings of Christ. I am also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed.

⁵ Likewise, you younger men, be subject to the older men. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility and serve one another. God resists the proud, but gives loving kindness to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you at the proper time.

⁴ Around the throne were twenty-four elders sitting on thrones. They were dressed in white with crowns of gold on their heads.

¹ The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all who know the truth.

¹ The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love. That righteous man that dwelled among them was tormented by the lawless deeds he saw and heard.
