¹ I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, ² They should be made for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. ³ This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior. ⁴ It is God’s desire that all men have salvation and come to the full (precise) (accurate) (correct) knowledge (Greek: epignosis: recognition, discernment) of the truth. ⁵ There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. ⁶ He gave himself as a ransom for all. A witness was to be given at the right time. ⁷ Because of this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle. What I say is true, not false, and I am a teacher of the nations in the true faith. ⁸ I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument. ⁹ Likewise I want women to be adorned in modest clothing, with modesty and soundness of mind; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly clothes; ¹⁰ but that which becomes a woman professing godliness through good works. ¹¹ Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection. ¹² I do not permit a woman to teach or have dominion over a man, but to remain quiet. ¹³ Adam was first formed and then Eve. ¹⁴ Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived fell into transgression. ¹⁵ She will be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and sanctification with sobriety.

Suppose thirty should be found there?« God replied: »I will not do it if I find thirty there.« ³¹ Abraham then said: »Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to Jehovah: Suppose twenty should be found there?« God replied: »I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.« ³² Abraham again queried: »Please do not be angry as I speak once more: Suppose ten should be found there?« God said: »I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.«

³² »A young woman cannot forget her jewelry or a bride her breastband (sash) (girdle). Yet, my people have forgotten me for countless days.

³⁰ You are going to be destroyed! What are you going to do? Why do you dress in scarlet (crimson) and put on gold jewelry? Why do you wear eye shadow? You are making yourself beautiful for nothing. Your lovers despise you. They want to kill you.

⁹ »Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, offer sacrifices to Baal and walk after other gods that you have not known? ¹⁰ »Then come and stand before me in this house. It is called by my name. You say, ‘We are safe to do all these abominations.’

⁴ They will rebuild the ancient ruins. They will raise up the former devastations. And they will repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.

⁷ ‘Work for the good of the city where I have taken you as captives. Pray to Jehovah for that city. When it prospers, you will also prosper.

¹¹ Say to them: ‘»As I am alive!« Declares the Lord Jehovah. »I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Only that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back! Turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?«’
