1 John 4:1 Cross References - NSB

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit. Test the spirits to see whether they are from God. This is because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

¹ »If a prophet or an interpreter of dreams appears among you and gives you a sign or a wonder (portent) (omen) (forecast of the future), ² in order to lead you to worship and serve gods that you have not worshiped before, and even if what they promise comes true, ³ do not listen to them. Jehovah your God is allowing them to test you. He will then know that you love Jehovah with all your heart. ⁴ »Follow Jehovah and respect him. Obey him and keep his commandments. Worship him and be faithful to him (stick to him) (stay close to him) (cleave, cling to him). ⁵ »Put to death any interpreters of dreams or prophets that tell you to rebel against Jehovah. For he (Jehovah) rescued you from Egypt, where you were slaves. Such people are evil and are trying to lead you away from the life that Jehovah has commanded you to live. They must be put to death, in order to get rid of this evil.

¹⁵ The simple believes every word, but the prudent man gives thought to his steps.

³¹ ‘Prophets prophesy falsehoods. Priests rule under the prophets' directions, and my people love this. But what will you do when the end comes?’«

⁸ »This is what Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Do not let the prophets or the mediums among you trick you. Do not even listen to your own dreams. ⁹ ‘These people prophesy lies to you in my name. I did not send them,’ declares Jehovah.

¹⁵ »Watch out for the false prophets. They are disguised as sheep. But in their hearts they are vicious wolves. ¹⁶ »By their fruits you will know them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles?

⁴ Jesus answered: »Be careful that no man misleads you. ⁵ »Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

²³ »If someone says, ‘Here is the Christ,’ or, ‘Over there is the Christ,’ do not believe it. ²⁴ »There will be false Christs and false prophets. They will show great signs and wonders so that many will be misled. This includes some of the chosen ones. ²⁵ »Remember, I told you before it happens. ²⁶ »If they say, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ or, ‘He is in the inner chambers,’ do not believe it.

²¹ »If any man will say to you here is the Christ or there is the Christ do not believe it.

⁸ He said: »Take heed that you are not led astray. Many will come in my name, saying, I am he but the time is not at hand. Do not follow them.

¹¹ The Bereans were nobler than those in Thessalonica because they received the word with all readiness of mind and examined the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul told them was true.

²⁹ »I know that after my departing grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

¹⁸ They do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the unaware. ¹⁹ Your obedience has come to our attention abroad. I am glad therefore on your behalf. Yet I would have you wise to that which is good and simple concerning evil.

¹⁰ To another the workings of miracles and to another prophesy. To another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.

²⁹ Let two or three prophets speak and let the others listen.

²¹ Prove all things; hold fast to what is good.

¹ The Spirit explicitly says that some will fall away from the faith (truth) in later times. Spirits and doctrines of demons will seduce them,

¹³ But evil men and impostors will become worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹ There arose false prophets among the people. There will be false teachers among you! They will privately bring in destructive heresies (contrary doctrines), denying even the Master who bought them. They bring swift destruction on themselves.

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last hour! You heard that the antichrist is coming. Even now many antichrists have come. That is how we know that it is the last hour.

² »'I know your works, and your labor, and your patience. I also know how you cannot tolerate those who are evil. You tested those who say they are apostles. They are not apostles. You found them to be liars.

⁷ For many deceivers have gone into the world. They do not confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.
