I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. ³ I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail, looking for my God. ⁴ Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head. Those who want to cut me off, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty. I have to restore what I did not take away. ⁵ God, you know my foolishness. My sins aren't hidden from you. ⁶ Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame because of me, LORD of hosts. Do not let those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, God of Israel. ⁷ Because for your sake I suffer insults. Shame has covered my face. ⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's children. ⁹ For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. ¹⁰ When I wept and I fasted, it brought me insults. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. ¹² Those who sit in the gate talk about me. I am the song of the drunkards. ¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to you, LORD, in an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation. ¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Do not let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up. Do not let the pit shut its mouth on me. ¹⁶ Answer me, LORD, for your loving kindness is good. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, turn to me. ¹⁷ Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw near to my soul, and redeem it. Ransom me because of my enemies. ¹⁹ You know how I am insulted, and my shame, and my disgrace. My adversaries are all before you. ²⁰ Insults have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; for comforters, but I found none. ²¹ They also gave me gall for my food. In my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink. ²² Let their table before them become a snare, and a retribution, and a trap, and a stumbling block. ²³ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can't see, and make their backs weak continually. ²⁴ Pour out your indignation on them. Let the fierceness of your anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell in their tents. ²⁶ For they persecute him whom you have wounded. They tell of the sorrow of those whom you have hurt. ²⁷ Charge them with crime upon crime. Do not let them come into your righteousness. ²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life, and not be written with the righteous. ²⁹ But I am in pain and distress. Let your salvation, God, protect me. ³⁰ I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. ³¹ It will please the LORD better than an ox, or a bull that has horns and hoofs. ³² The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek after God, let your heart live. ³³ For the LORD hears the needy, and doesn't despise his captive people. ³⁴ Let heaven and earth praise him; the seas, and everything that moves in them. ³⁵ For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah. They shall settle there, and own it. ³⁶ The children also of his servants shall inherit it. Those who love his name shall dwell in it.

⁴ The waves of death surrounded me, and the currents of ungodliness overwhelmed me.

⁶ For this, let everyone who is faithful pray to you in a time when you may be found. Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him.

⁷ Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your breakers and waves have swept over me.

You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Do not let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up. Do not let the pit shut its mouth on me.

¹⁷ I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line. The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the hiding place.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and the flame will not scorch you.

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; I said, 'I am finished.'

³ For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your breakers and waves passed over me. ⁴ I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' ⁵ The waters surrounded me, threatening my life. The deep was around me. The end is upon my head.

¹⁵ The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. ¹⁶ The earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the serpent spewed out of his mouth.

¹⁵ He said to me, "The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.

¹⁷ The flood was forty days on the earth. The waters increased, and lifted up the vessel, and it was lifted up above the earth. ¹⁸ The waters prevailed, and increased greatly on the earth; and the vessel floated on the surface of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters rose very high on the earth. And all the high mountains that were under the whole sky were covered. ²⁰ The waters rose and covered the highest mountains to a depth of more than twenty-six feet. ²¹ And all flesh died that moved on the earth, flying creatures, and tame animals, and wild animals, and every creature that crawls on the earth, and all humankind. ²² All in whose nostrils breathed the breath of life, of all that was on the dry land, died. ²³ Every living thing was destroyed that was on the surface of the ground, including people, animals, crawling creatures, and flying creatures of the sky. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the vessel.

² He also brought me up out of a pit of tumult, out of the miry clay; and he set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure.

⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. ⁷ Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

²² look, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's officers, and those women shall say, 'Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away back.'

²⁶ "'"Your rowers have brought you into great waters: the east wind has broken you in the heart of the seas. ²⁷ Your riches, and your wares, your merchandise, your mariners, and your pilots, your repairers of ship seams, and the dealers in your merchandise, and all your men of war, who are in you, with all your company which is in the midst of you, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of your ruin. ²⁸ At the sound of the cry of your pilots the suburbs shall shake. ²⁹ All who handled the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand on the land, ³⁰ and shall cause their voice to be heard over you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust on their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes: ³¹ and they shall make themselves bald for you, and clothe them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning. ³² In their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for you, and lament over you, saying, 'Who is there like Tyre, like her who is brought to silence in the midst of the sea?' ³³ When your wares went forth out of the seas, you filled many peoples; you enriched the kings of the earth with the multitude of your riches and of your merchandise. ³⁴ In the time that you were broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your merchandise and all your company fell in your midst.

²⁵ And the rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

³⁷ He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch with me."

³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people; and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nothing in the power of your hand.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail. They shall have no way to flee. Their hope shall be the giving up of the spirit."

¹⁶ My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids.

⁶ I am weary with my groaning. Every night I drench my bed; I melt my couch with my tears.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me? ³ Look, and answer me, LORD, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;

² My God, I cry in the daytime, but you do not answer; in the night season, and am not silent.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; and you have brought me into the dust of death.

²¹ Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you, LORD.

⁷ And now, LORD, what do I wait for? My hope is in you.

²¹ They also gave me gall for my food. In my thirst, they gave me vinegar to drink.

⁸² My eyes fail for your word. I say, "When will you comfort me?"

¹²³ My eyes fail looking for your salvation, for your righteous word.

¹⁴ I chip like a swallow or a thrush. I moan like a dove. My eyes weaken looking upward.LORD, I am oppressed. Be my security.”

¹¹ My eyes are worn out from weeping, my stomach is churning. My heart is poured on the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the young children and the infants faint in the streets of the city.

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."

⁷ In the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

³ LORD, my God, if I have done this, if there is iniquity in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause, ⁵ let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it; yes, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up. They ask me about things that I do not know about. ¹² They reward me evil for good, to the bereaving of my soul.

¹⁹ Do not let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me without a cause and wink their eyes.

¹⁹ But my enemies, for no reason, are many. Those who hate me wrongfully are numerous. ²⁰ They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow what is good.

¹² For innumerable evils have surrounded me. My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up. They are more than the hairs of my head. My heart has failed me.

³ For, look, they lie in wait for my soul. The mighty gather themselves together against me, not for my disobedience, nor for my sin, LORD.

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer. ⁵ They have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

⁴ Surely he bore our diseases, and took our pains; yet we considered him stricken, and struck down by God, and afflicted. ⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions, and he was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. ⁷ He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he did not open his mouth. He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth.

²⁵ But this happened so that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.'

²¹ For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

²² who "committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth."

²⁴ who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose wounds you were healed.

¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

³ You have proved my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me, and found nothing. I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey.

¹² Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.

⁵ My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, because of my foolishness.

⁹ Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you.

²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god; ²¹ won't God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹⁷ For my eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from my face, neither is their iniquity concealed from my eyes.

³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, 'One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

⁷ And let the congregation of the peoples surround you, and rule over them on high.

³ Yes, no one who waits for you shall be shamed. They shall be shamed who deal treacherously without cause.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

¹⁸ Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds.

²³ Kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: they shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am the LORD; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed."

¹⁹ He said to them, "What things?" They said to him, "The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people; ²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. ²¹ But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

⁷ When they had stood them in the middle of them, they inquired, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?"

¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as foreigners in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.

²³ From this man's offspring, according to his promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,

⁶ But I am a worm, and no man; scorned by people and despised by the people. ⁷ All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying, ⁸ "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him."

¹⁵ All day long my dishonor is before me, and shame covers my face,

²² For your sake we are killed all day long. We are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.

⁶ I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who tore out my beard; I did not cover my face from insults and spitting.

³ He was despised, and rejected by people; a man of sorrows, and familiar with illness; and as one from whom people hide their face. He was despised, and we did not value him.

¹⁵ "LORD, you know; remember me, and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors; do not take me away in your longsuffering: know that for your sake I have suffered reproach.

⁶⁷ Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him, ⁶⁸ saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ. Who hit you?"

²⁹ They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews." ³⁰ They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.

³⁸ Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left. ³⁹ Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, "You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, and the elders, said, ⁴² "He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him. ⁴³ He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" ⁴⁴ The robbers also who were crucified with him insulted him in the same way.

¹¹ Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.

³⁵ The people stood watching. The rulers also scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his Chosen One." ³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, ³⁷ and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself."

²¹ But all these things will they do to you because of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have had sin. But now have they seen and also hated both me and my Father.

² looking to Jesus, the founder and completer of the faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

²⁸ Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, "Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your insolence and the wickedness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle."

¹³ "He has put my brothers far from me. My acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. ¹⁴ My relatives have gone away. My familiar friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ Those who dwell in my house, and my maids, count me for a stranger. I am a foreigner in their sight. ¹⁶ I call to my servant, and he gives me no answer. I beg him with my mouth. ¹⁷ My breath is offensive to my wife. I am loathsome to the children of my own mother. ¹⁸ Even young children despise me. If I arise, they speak against me. ¹⁹ All my familiar friends abhor me. They whom I loved have turned against me.

¹¹ Because of all my adversaries I have become utterly contemptible to my neighbors, A fear to my acquaintances. Those who saw me on the street fled from me.

¹¹ My loved ones and my friends keep their distance because of my affliction. My kinsmen stand far away.

⁵ Do not trust in a neighbor. Do not put confidence in a friend. With the woman lying in your embrace, be careful of the words of your mouth. ⁶ For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

²¹ "And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. ²² And you will be hated by all for my name's sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

³⁵ For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And a person's foes will be those of his own household.

⁴⁸ Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him." ⁴⁹ Immediately he came to Jesus, and said, "Greetings, Rabbi." and kissed him. ⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

⁵⁶ But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about." ⁷¹ And when he had gone out onto the porch, another girl saw him, and said to those who were there, "This man also was with Jesus the Nazorean." ⁷² Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man." ⁷³ After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your accent makes you known." ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, "I do not know the man." Immediately the rooster crowed.

¹¹ He came to his own, and those who were his own did not receive him.

⁵ For even his brothers did not believe in him.

¹⁰ He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away."

²⁷ David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites who bore the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: and David had on him an ephod of linen. ²⁸ Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with stringed instruments and harps. ²⁹ It happened, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the City of David, that Mikal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.

³ In addition, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, since I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,

⁴¹ All who pass by the way rob him. He has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors.

⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the ridicule of all the many peoples against your servants I have borne in my heart, ⁵¹ how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed the footsteps of your anointed one.

¹³⁹ My zeal wears me out, because my enemies ignore your words.

¹⁵ They came to Jerusalem, and he entered into the temple, and began to throw out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of those who sold the doves. ¹⁶ He would not allow anyone to carry a container through the temple. ¹⁷ He taught, saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations?' But you have made it a den of robbers."

¹⁴ And he found in the temple those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, and the money changers sitting. ¹⁵ And he made a whip of cords, and threw all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers' money, and overthrew their tables. ¹⁶ To those who sold the doves, he said, "Take these things out of here. Do not make my Father's house a marketplace." ¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."

³ For even Christ did not please himself. But, as it is written, "The insults of those who insult you fell on me."

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom.

⁸ My enemies reproach me all day. Those who are mad at me use my name as a curse. ⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mixed my drink with tears,

²⁴ My knees are weak through fasting. My body is thin and lacks fat. ²⁵ I have also become a reproach to them. When they see me, they shake their head.

³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' ³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard; a friend of tax collectors and sinners.'

³⁷ You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples where the LORD shall lead you away.

⁷ then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

⁶ "But he has made me a byword of the people. They spit in my face.

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother.

¹³ You make us the taunt of our neighbors, a scoffing and a derision to those who are around us. ¹⁴ You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

² at that time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, "Go, and loosen the sackcloth from off your waist, and take your sandals off your feet." He did so, walking naked and barefoot.

¹² In that day the LORD of hosts called for weeping and for mourning, for shaved heads, and for the wearing of sackcloth.

⁹ I will make them a horror, an evil thing, to all the kingdoms of the earth, as a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them.

⁸ Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

¹³ Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests. Wail, you ministers of the altar. Come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God, for the meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from your God's house.

¹ The two angels came to Sodom at evening. Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. He bowed himself with his face to the earth,

¹⁸ You shall make judges and officers in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, according to your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

⁸ They are children of fools, yes, children of base men. They were flogged out of the land. ⁹ "Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them.

¹⁵ But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it. They tore at me, and did not cease. ¹⁶ When I tripped, they mocked me relentlessly; they gnashed their teeth at me.

² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his lords, his wives and his secondary wives, might drink from them. ³ Then they brought the gold and silver vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his secondary wives, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your secondary wives, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

¹² When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. ¹³ Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?"

²⁰ Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

⁴¹ Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, and the elders, said, ⁴² "He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.

⁶² Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate, ⁶³ saying, "Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: 'After three days I will rise again.'

¹⁷ They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him. ¹⁸ They began to salute him, "Greetings, King of the Jews." ¹⁹ They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.

² They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Christ, a king."

²⁶ The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.' ²⁷ "For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the non-Jews and the people of Israel, were gathered together

²⁷ He said, "Blessed be the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, he has led me on the journey to the house of my masterʼs relatives."

⁸ Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes; for we come in a good day. Please give whatever comes to your hand, to your servants, and to your son David.'"

² When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther came near, and touched the top of the scepter.

⁶ The king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, "What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed."

¹⁰ I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart. I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loving kindness and your truth from the great assembly. ¹¹ Do not withhold your tender mercies from me, LORD. Let your loving kindness and your truth continually preserve me.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call on God. The LORD will save me. ¹⁷ Evening, morning, and at noon, I will cry out in distress. He will hear my voice.

¹⁵ He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.

³ He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. Every part of the earth has seen the salvation of our God.

⁸ Thus says the LORD, "In an acceptable time I have answered you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you; and I will preserve you, and give you as a covenant to the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage:

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call you on him while he is near:

²⁰ You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

³⁶ Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go there and pray." ³⁷ He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch with me." ³⁹ He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire." ⁴⁰ He came to the disciples, and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What, could you not watch with me for one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." ⁴² Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, your desire be done." ⁴³ He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. ⁴⁴ He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words. ⁴⁵ Then he came to the disciples, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴⁶ Arise, let us be going. Look, he who betrays me is near."

⁷² to show mercy towards our fathers, to remember his holy covenant,

⁴⁴ Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.

¹ Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you; ² even as you gave him authority over all flesh, he will give everlasting life to all whom you have given him. ³ This is everlasting life, that they may know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ. ⁴ I glorified you on the earth by accomplishing the work which you have given me to do. ⁵ Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world existed. ⁶ I revealed your name to the people whom you have given me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me. They have kept your word. ⁷ Now they have known that all things whatever you have given me are from you, ⁸ for the words which you have given me I have given to them, and they received them, and knew for sure that I came forth from you, and they have believed that you sent me. ⁹ I pray for them. I do not pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. ¹⁰ All things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. ¹¹ I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. ³² We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers, ³³ that God has fulfilled for us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, 'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.'

⁸ Now I say that Christ has been made a servant of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given to the fathers, ⁹ and that the non-Jews might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "therefore I will give praise to you among the non-Jews, and sing to your name."

² for he says, "At an acceptable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I helped you." Look, now is the "acceptable time." Look, now is the "day of salvation."

²³ Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously;

¹⁸ Consider my affliction and my travail. Forgive all my sins. ¹⁹ Consider my enemies, for they are many. They hate me with cruel hatred.

² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.

²¹ But deal with me, the LORD the Lord, for your name's sake, because your loving kindness is good, deliver me;

⁷ Stretch out your hand from above, rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters, out of the hands of foreigners;

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire. ⁷ Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king then sitting in the Benjamin Gate), ⁸ Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying, ⁹ "My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city." ¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies." ¹¹ So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. ¹² Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Put now these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords." ³⁴ Then at three in the afternoon Jesus called out with a loud voice, saying, "Elohi, Elohi, lema shabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to reign over us.'

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'"

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God exalted him with his right hand to be a Leader and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

³³ So they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol: and the earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly. ³⁴ All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up."

¹⁰ For you will not abandon my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.

⁴ I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, ⁵ set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand. ⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths.

¹ But now thus says the LORD who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. ² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and the flame will not scorch you.

² He said, "I called because of my affliction to the LORD. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried. You heard my voice. ³ For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your breakers and waves passed over me. ⁴ I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' ⁵ The waters surrounded me, threatening my life. The deep was around me. The end is upon my head. ⁶ I went down to the bottoms of the mountains. ²⁴ whom God raised up, having freed him from the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it.

³¹ he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left in Sheol, nor did his flesh see decay.

¹⁶ Turn to me, and have mercy on me, for I am desolate and afflicted.

¹¹ But as for me, I will walk in my integrity. Redeem me, and be merciful to me.

⁷ How precious is your loving kindness, God. The descendants of Adam take refuge under the shadow of your wings.

³ Because your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise you.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to you, LORD, in an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation.

¹⁵ But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth. ¹⁶ Turn to me, and have mercy on me. Give your strength to your servant. Save the son of your handmaid.

⁴⁵ He remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

⁷ I will make mention of the loving kindnesses of the LORD and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he has bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

¹⁹ He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

²¹ Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now shall I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I shall not be."

²⁴ For he has not despised or detested the affliction of the afflicted, nor has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.

²⁷ were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should judge wrongly, lest they should say, 'Our hand is exalted, the LORD has not done all this.'"

⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?"

²³ or, 'Deliver me from the adversary's hand?' or, 'Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors?'

¹ Why do you stand far off, LORD? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

¹⁹ But do not be far off, LORD. You are my help: hurry to help me.

⁹ He has sent redemption to his people. He has ordained his covenant forever. His name is holy and awesome.

⁸ Hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?

² The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed: ³ "Letʼs tear off their shackles, and throw off their ropes from us." ⁴ The one who sits in the heavens laughs. The LORD scoffs at them.

⁶ But I am a worm, and no man; scorned by people and despised by the people. ⁷ All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,

⁷ Because for your sake I suffer insults. Shame has covered my face. ⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's children. ⁹ For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.

² "I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters.

²¹ "Have pity on me, have pity on me, you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me. ²² Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

⁶ My soul is in despair within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon, from the hill Mizar.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

⁴ Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul.

⁵ I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation to me; and my wrath, it upheld me.

³⁷ He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour?

⁵⁰ They all left him, and fled.

²⁷ "Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say? 'Father, save me from this hour?' But for this cause I came to this hour.

³² Look, the time is coming, and has come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

¹⁶ At my first defense, no one came to help me, but all left me. May it not be held against them. ¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the non-Jewish people might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

³⁶ Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.

¹⁸ lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood;

¹⁴ "Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there; for the LORD our God has put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

¹⁵ therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, 'Look, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

¹⁵ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets: 'Look, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets of Jerusalem is ungodliness gone forth into all the land.'

³⁴ They gave him wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.

⁴⁸ Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.

²³ They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he did not take it.

³⁶ One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Let him be. Let us see whether Elijah comes to take him down."

³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty." ²⁹ A vessel full of sour wine was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth. ³⁰ When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.

³² For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

¹⁴ And he will be a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock that makes them fall to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ Many will stumble over it, fall, be broken, be snared, and be captured."

² If you will not listen, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name," says the LORD of hosts, "then will I send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.

⁸ According as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day. ⁹ David says, "Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a retribution to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can't see, and their backs be bent continually."

³ Now when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

⁸ and, "a stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over." For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed.

⁶⁵ Among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot: but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul; ⁶⁶ and your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, "I wish it were evening." and at evening you shall say, "I wish it were morning." for the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.

⁹ And he said, "Go, and tell this people, 'In hearing you hear, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not perceive.' ¹⁰ The heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears sluggish, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them."

³ Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have taken hold on me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can't hear. I so am dismayed that I can't see. ⁴ My heart flutters. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling for me.

⁹ Pause and wonder. Blind yourselves and be blind. They are drunk, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. ¹⁰ For the LORD has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes (the prophets), and he has covered your heads (the seers).

⁶ Ask now, and see whether a man does travail with child: why do I see every man with his hands on his waist, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

⁶ Then the king's face was turned pale, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs gave way, and his knees began knocking together.

¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'In hearing you will hear, but will not understand, and seeing you will see, but not perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears are sluggish in hearing, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them.'

³⁹ For this cause they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.

²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people, and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive. ²⁷ For this people's heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.'

¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they can't see, and their backs be bent continually."

²⁵ For I do not desire you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you won't be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the non-Jews has come in,

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.

¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed. Trembling takes hold of the leaders of Moab. All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

¹⁴ "'But if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments; ¹⁵ and if you shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhors my ordinances, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant; ¹⁶ I also will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away; and you will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. ¹⁷ I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you. ¹⁸ "'If you in spite of these things will not listen to me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins. ¹⁹ I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your sky like iron, and your soil like bronze; ²⁰ and your strength will be spent in vain; for your land won't yield its increase, neither will the trees of the land yield their fruit. ²¹ "'If you walk contrary to me, and won't listen to me, then I will bring seven times more plagues on you according to your sins. ²² I will send the wild animals among you, which will rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number; and your roads will become desolate. ²³ "'If by these things you won't be reformed to me, but will walk contrary to me; ²⁴ then I will also walk contrary to you; and I will strike you, even I, seven times for your sins. ²⁵ I will bring a sword upon you, that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; and you will be gathered together within your cities: and I will send the pestilence among you; and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied. ²⁷ "'If you in spite of this won't listen to me, but walk contrary to me; ²⁸ then I will walk contrary to you in wrath; and I also will chastise you seven times for your sins. ²⁹ You will eat the flesh of your sons, and you will eat the flesh of your daughters. ³⁰ I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you. ³¹ I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings. ³² I will bring the land into desolation; and your enemies that dwell in it will be astonished at it. ³³ I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you: and your land will be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste. ³⁴ Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies' land. Even then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. ³⁵ As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, even the rest which it did not have in your sabbaths, when you lived on it. ³⁶ "'As for those of you who are left, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword; and they will fall when no one pursues. ³⁷ They will stumble over one another, as it were before the sword, when no one pursues: and you will have no power to stand before your enemies. ³⁸ You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will eat you up. ³⁹ Those of you who are left will rot away in their iniquity in the lands of their enemies; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they rot away with them. ⁴⁰ "'If they confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary to me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity; ⁴² then I will remember my covenant with Jacob; and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham; and I will remember the land. ⁴³ The land also will be left by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them: and they will accept the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they rejected my ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes. ⁴⁴ Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God; ⁴⁵ but I will for their sake remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.'" ⁴⁶ These are the statutes, ordinances and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in Mount Sinai by Moses.

¹⁵ But it shall come to pass, if you will not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day, that all these curses shall come on you, and overtake you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and you shall be cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading trough shall be cursed. ¹⁸ The fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock shall be cursed. ¹⁹ You shall be cursed when you come in, and you shall be cursed when you go out. ²⁰ The LORD will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke, in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly; because of the evil of your doings, by which you have forsaken me. ²¹ The LORD will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you from off the land, where you go in to possess it. ²² The LORD will strike you with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with the sword, and with blight, and with mildew; and they shall pursue you until you perish. ²³ Your sky that is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be iron. ²⁴ The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust: from the sky shall it come down on you, until you are destroyed. ²⁵ The LORD will cause you to be struck before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them, and shall flee seven ways before them: and you shall be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ Your dead body shall be food to all birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth; and there shall be none to frighten them away. ²⁷ The LORD will strike you with the boil of Egypt, and with the tumors, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, of which you can not be healed. ²⁸ The LORD will strike you with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart; ²⁹ and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: and you shall be only oppressed and robbed always, and there shall be none to save you. ³⁰ You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: you shall build a house, and you shall not dwell in it: you shall plant a vineyard, and shall not use its fruit. ³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it: your donkey shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you: your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have none to save you. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people; and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nothing in the power of your hand. ³³ The fruit of your ground, and all your labors, shall a nation which you do not know eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always; ³⁴ so that you shall be mad for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ³⁵ The LORD will strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore boil, of which you can not be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head. ³⁶ The LORD will bring you, and your king whom you shall set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples where the LORD shall lead you away. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather little in; for the locust shall consume it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but you shall neither drink of the wine, nor harvest; for the worm shall eat them. ⁴⁰ You shall have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off. ⁴¹ You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and the fruit of your ground shall the locust possess. ⁴³ The foreigner who is in the midst of you shall mount up above you higher and higher; and you shall come down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him: he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. ⁴⁵ All these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you, and overtake you, until you are destroyed; because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you: ⁴⁶ and they shall be on you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your descendants forever. ⁴⁷ Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things; ⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from a distant land, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ a nation of fierce facial expressions, that shall not respect the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, ⁵¹ and shall eat the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; that also shall not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish. ⁵² They shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you. ⁵³ You shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you. ⁵⁴ The man who is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he has remaining; ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates. ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, The LORD your God; ⁵⁹ then the LORD will make your plagues extraordinary, and the plagues of your descendants, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and severe sicknesses, and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ He will bring on you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they shall cling to you. ⁶¹ Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring them on you, until you are destroyed. ⁶² You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of the sky for multitude; because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God. ⁶³ It shall happen that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go in to possess it. ⁶⁴ The LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ Among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot: but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul; ⁶⁶ and your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, "I wish it were evening." and at evening you shall say, "I wish it were morning." for the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ⁶⁸ The LORD will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again: and there you shall sell yourselves to your enemies for bondservants and for bondmaids, and no man shall buy you.

¹⁸ lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood; ¹⁹ and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry." ²⁰ God will not be willing to forgive him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book shall rest on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ The LORD will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law. ²² The generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick; ²³ and that the whole land of it is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: ²⁴ even all the nations shall say, "Why has the LORD done thus to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?" ²⁵ Then men shall say, "Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they did not know, and that he had not given to them: ²⁷ therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curse that is written in this book; ²⁸ and the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day."

¹⁷ Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come on them; so that they will say in that day, 'Haven't these evils come on us because our God is not among us?'

²⁰ He said, "I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end shall be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. ²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities. I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. ²² For a fire is kindled in my anger, and burns to the lowest Sheol, and devours the earth with its increase, and sets the foundations of the mountains on fire. ²³ "I will heap evils on them. I will spend my arrows on them. ²⁴ They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat and bitter destruction. I will send the teeth of animals on them, With the poison of crawling creatures of the dust. ²⁵ Outside the sword shall bereave, and in the rooms, terror; on both young man and virgin, The nursing infant with the gray-haired man. ²⁶ I said, I want to cut them to pieces. I will remove the memory of them from men;

⁶ Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you; on the kingdoms that do not call on your name;

⁸ They will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will seize them. They will be in pain like a woman in labor. They will look in amazement one at another. Their faces will be faces of flame.

¹⁰ The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark. I will pour out my wrath on them like water.

⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded by my Spirit to my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, 'Just as the LORD of hosts determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.'"

³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation. ³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and did not please God, and are hostile to all people; ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to those who are not Jewish that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.

¹ I heard a loud voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God on the earth."

⁸ And this house, which is exalted, will become a heap of ruins. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, and will whistle, and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land, and to this house?'

¹ Let me sing for my well beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a very fruitful hill.

¹¹ Then I said, "LORD, how long?" He answered, "Until cities are waste without inhabitant, and houses without man, and the land becomes utterly waste,

¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel. ¹³ Now, because you have done all these works, says the LORD, and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear; and I called you, but you did not answer: ¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

³⁸ Look, your house is abandoned to you.

¹ Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple. ² But answering, he said to them, "Do you not see all of these things? Truly I tell you, there will not be left here one stone on another, that will not be thrown down."

³⁵ Look, your house is abandoned to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

²⁰ For it is written in the scroll of Psalms, 'Let his habitation be made desolate, and let no one dwell in it;' and, 'Let another take his office.'

⁹ But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Look, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven.

¹⁶ because he did not remember to show kindness, but persecuted the poor and needy man, the broken in heart, to kill them.

⁴ Surely he bore our diseases, and took our pains; yet we considered him stricken, and struck down by God, and afflicted.

¹⁰ Yet the LORD was pleased to crush him and make him ill. Although his soul is made a reparation offering, he will see his offspring, he will prolong his days, and the desire of the LORD will succeed by his hand.

¹⁵ I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but only a little angry, but they added to the calamity."

⁷ "Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me," says the LORD of hosts. "I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

²⁷ With him they crucified two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left. ²⁸ And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And he was numbered with transgressors." ²⁹ Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha. You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself and come down from the cross." ³¹ Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, "He saved others. He cannot save himself. ³² Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him." Those who were crucified with him insulted him.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and did not please God, and are hostile to all people;

¹⁵ But when Pharaoh saw that there was a respite, he hardened his heart, and did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.

³² Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go.

¹² The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken to Moses.

³⁹ Those of you who are left will rot away in their iniquity in the lands of their enemies; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they rot away with them.

⁵ do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you; for they have insulted the builders."

⁵ He shall receive a blessing from the LORD, righteousness from the God of his salvation.

¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.

¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD. Do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.

¹⁷ Yes, he loved cursing, and it came to him. He did not delight in blessing, and it was far from him. ¹⁸ He clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment. It came into his inward parts like water, like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the clothing with which he covers himself, for the belt that is always around him.

⁶ I will lay it a wasteland. It won't be pruned nor hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it."

¹⁰ Let favor be shown to the wicked, yet he will not learn righteousness. In the land of uprightness he will deal wrongfully, and will not see the LORD's majesty.

¹⁹ Seeing a fig tree by the road, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves. He said to it, "Let there be no fruit from you forever." Immediately the fig tree withered away.

³¹ Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets. ³² Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.

⁴ saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it." ⁵ He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.

²⁸ Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God abandoned them to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not right;

¹⁸ So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires.

³¹ but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law.

² For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

¹¹ And because of this, God sends them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, ¹² in order that all might be judged who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹⁴ Alexander, the coppersmith, did much evil to me. The Lord will repay him according to his works,

¹⁰ He said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. ¹¹ He who acts unjustly, let him act unjustly still. He who is filthy, let him be filthy still. He who is righteous, let him do righteousness still. He who is holy, let him be holy still."

³² Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written." ³³ The LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

³ It will happen, that he who is left in Zion, and he who remains in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even everyone who is written among the living in Jerusalem;

¹⁶ so that he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from my eyes.

⁹ My hand shall be against the prophets who see false visions, and who divine lies: they shall not be in the council of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

⁹ He said, "Call his name 'Not My People,' for you are x91Not my Peopleʼ and I am 'Not your I AM.'

²⁰ Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

³ Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, for they labored with me in the Good News, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

²³ to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect,

⁵ He who overcomes will be arrayed in white garments, and I will in no way blot his name out of the Book of Life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

⁸ All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the Book of Life of the Lamb who has been killed.

¹² I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and hell gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works. ¹⁴ Death and hell were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. ¹⁵ If anyone was not found written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

¹⁹ If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.

⁴⁸ He rescues me from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble. May the name of the God of Jacob set you up on high.

²⁷ Every part of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. ²⁸ For the kingdom is the LORD's, and he is the ruler over the nations. ²⁹ All the prosperous of the earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him; and my soul shall live for him. ³⁰ Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord. ³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, for he has done it.

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy. May the Lord think about me. You are my help and my deliverer. Do not delay, my God.

⁵ But I am poor and needy. Come to me quickly, God. You are my help and my deliverer. LORD, do not delay.

²⁶ He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.' ²⁷ I will also appoint him my firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

¹⁴ "Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name. ¹⁵ He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. ¹⁶ I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation."

²² for I am poor and needy. My heart is wounded within me.

³¹ For he will stand at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul.

² For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nor special appearance that we should desire him. ³ He was despised, and rejected by people; a man of sorrows, and familiar with illness; and as one from whom people hide their face. He was despised, and we did not value him.

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.

²¹ far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come. ²² He put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the church,

⁹ Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁷ The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

³ Oh magnify the LORD with me. Let us exalt his name together.

¹⁴ Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Pay your vows to the Most High.

²¹ I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me, and have become my salvation.

²⁸ You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God, I will exalt you. ²⁹ Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? ¹⁴ Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Pay your vows to the Most High.

²³ Whoever offers the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me; and to him who orders his conduct I will show the salvation of God."

² Take words with you, and return to the LORD. Tell him, "Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good, and we will offer the fruit of our lips.

¹⁹ speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your heart to the Lord; ²⁰ giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father;

¹⁵ Through him, then, let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

⁵ You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

²⁶ The humble shall eat and be satisfied. They shall praise the LORD who seek after him. Let your hearts live forever.

²⁹ All the prosperous of the earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him; and my soul shall live for him.

⁹ He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

² My soul shall boast in the LORD. The humble shall hear of it, and be glad.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call you on him while he is near: ⁷ let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹ The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and an opening of the eyes to the blind; ² to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; ³ to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

²² Therefore you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

²⁰ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.

¹⁷ LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear,

⁵ "Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will place in safety the one who longs for it."

⁶ This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

⁶ God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

¹² For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper. ¹³ He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. ¹⁴ He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight.

¹⁷ He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer.

²⁰ to hear the groans of the prisoner; to free those who are condemned to death;

¹⁰ Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron,

⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD frees the prisoners.

² For all these things has my hand made, and so all these things came to be," says the LORD: "but to this man will I look, to him who is humble and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I have set free your prisoners from the pit in which is no water. ¹² Turn to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you.

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,

¹⁸ and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in public custody. ¹⁹ But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out, and said,

⁴ When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. ⁵ Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the church to God for him. ⁶ The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison. ⁷ And look, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, "Stand up quickly." His chains fell off from his hands. ⁸ The angel said to him, "Get dressed and put on your sandals." He did so. He said to him, "Put on your cloak, and follow me." ⁹ And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. ¹¹ When Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting."

¹ For this cause I, Paul, am the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you the non-Jews,

¹⁰ Do not be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

²⁰ And God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let flying creatures fly above the earth in the open expanse of the sky." And it was so.

¹¹ Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar, and its fullness.

⁷ Let the sea roar with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell in it. ⁸ Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the mountains sing for joy together.

¹ Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens. Praise him in the heights. ² Praise him, all his angels. Praise him, all his army. ³ Praise him, sun and moon. Praise him, all you shining stars. ⁴ Praise him, you heavens of heavens, You waters that are above the heavens. ⁵ Let them praise the name of the LORD, For he commanded, and they were created. ⁶ He has also established them forever and ever. He has made a decree which will not pass away. ⁷ Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures, and all depths. ⁸ Lightning and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling his word; ⁹ mountains and all hills; fruit trees and all cedars; ¹⁰ wild animals and all livestock; small creatures and flying birds; ¹¹ kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth; ¹² both young men and maidens; old men and children: ¹³ let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted. His glory is above the earth and the heavens. ¹⁴ He has lifted up the horn of his people, the praise of all his faithful ones; even of the children of Israel, a people near to him. Praise the LORD.

⁶ Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

²² I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins. Return to me, for I have redeemed you. ²³ Sing, you heavens, for the LORD has done it. Shout, you lower parts of the earth. Break out into singing, you mountains, O forest, all of your trees, for the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.

¹³ Sing, heavens; and be joyful, earth; and break forth into singing, mountains: for the LORD has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted.

¹² For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands.

¹¹ All the angels were standing around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne, and worshiped God, ¹² saying, "Amen. Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen." ¹³ One of the elders answered, saying to me, "These who are arrayed in white robes, who are they, and from where did they come?"

¹¹ Let Mount Zion be glad. Let the daughters of Judah rejoice, Because of your judgments. ¹² Walk about Zion, and go around her. Number its towers. ¹³ Consider her defenses. Consider her palaces, that you may tell it to the next generation.

¹⁸ Do well in your good pleasure to Zion. Build the walls of Jerusalem.

¹³ You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for it is time to have pity on her. Yes, the set time has come.

¹⁶ For the LORD has built up Zion. He has appeared in his glory.

¹² Praise the LORD, Jerusalem. Praise your God, Zion. ¹³ For he has strengthened the bars of your gates. He has blessed your children within you.

³² What will they say to the kings of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

²⁶ who confirms the word of his servant, and performs the counsel of his messengers; who says of Jerusalem, 'She will be inhabited;' and of the cities of Judah, 'They will be built,' and 'I will raise up its waste places;'

¹³ I bring near my righteousness, it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not wait; and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

¹⁰ "Thus says the LORD: 'Yet again there shall be heard in this place, about which you say, "It is waste, without man and without animal," even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without animal, ¹¹ the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, "Give thanks to the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good, for his loving kindness endures forever; who bring thanksgiving into the house of the LORD." For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first,' says the LORD.

³⁵ They shall say, "This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited." ³⁶ Then the nations that are left around you shall know that I, the LORD, have built the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate: I, the LORD, have spoken it, and I will do it.'"

¹⁷ But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess those who dispossessed them.

¹ And I looked, and suddenly on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him one hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.

²⁹ The righteous shall inherit the land, and live in it forever.

¹⁶ Let your work appear to your servants; your glory to their children. ¹⁷ Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

¹⁴ "Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name.

²⁸ The children of your servants will continue, and their descendants will be established before you."

³ For I will pour water upon the thirsty, and streams on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants: ⁴ and they will spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.

⁹ Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the offspring which the LORD has blessed."

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling place with him.

³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself."

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

¹² Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which he promised to those who love him.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers. Did not God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

²⁷ There will in no way enter into it anything profane, or one who causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
