⁸ Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?

¹⁴ Abner said to Joab, "Let the young men now arise and compete before us." Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle. ¹⁰ You have indeed struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Enjoy the glory of it, and stay at home; for why should you meddle to your harm, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?'" ¹¹ But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. ¹² Judah was defeated by Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.

⁶ A fool's lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.

³¹ Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.
