¹⁷ The words of the wise: Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your heart to my instruction.

¹² So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

³ To receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity.

² So as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ My son, do not forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:

⁴ He taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom. Get understanding. Do not forget, neither swerve from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. ⁸ Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her.

¹ My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding: ² that you may maintain discretion, that your lips may preserve knowledge.

³³ Hear instruction, and be wise. Do not refuse it. ³⁴ Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts.

¹² Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.

²⁵ I turned around, and my heart sought to know and to search out, and to seek wisdom and the scheme of things, and to know that wickedness is stupidity, and that foolishness is madness.

⁹ All this have I seen, and applied my mind to every work that is done under the sun. There is a time in which one man has power over another to his hurt.

¹⁶ When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes),

³ Turn your ear, and come to me; hear, and your soul shall live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the faithful kindnesses of David.

⁵ While he was still speaking, look, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And look, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him."
