¹¹ When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

³⁴ All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up."

¹¹ All Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not do any more such wickedness as this is in the midst of you.

²¹ All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

⁷ But God will shoot at them. They will be suddenly struck down with an arrow. ⁸ Their own tongues shall ruin them. All who see them will shake their heads. ⁹ All humankind shall be afraid. They shall declare the work of God, and shall wisely ponder what he has done.

⁵ A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will attain to sound counsel.

⁹ Instruct a wise man, and he will be still wiser. Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁴ The heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.

¹ An unfriendly man pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment.

¹⁵ The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

²⁵ Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

⁵ Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. Great fear came on all who heard it.

¹¹ Great fear came on the whole church, and on all who heard these things. ¹² By the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. ¹ Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, so that we will not drift away. ² For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense; ³ how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation—which at the first having been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard;

²⁸ Anyone who disregards the Law of Moses dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

¹³ In that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
