¹ Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy-two others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place, where he was about to come.

¹⁶ The LORD said to Moses, "Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

²⁴ Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the Tent. ²⁵ The LORD came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, and put it on the seventy elders: and it happened that when the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more. ²⁶ But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Spirit rested on them; and they were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp.

¹ And he called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness. ² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these. The first, Simon, who is called Peter; and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; ⁴ Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

⁷ And he called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ⁸ And he commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no pack, no money in their belts, ⁹ but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics. ¹⁰ And he said to them, "Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you or listen to you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them." ¹² So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. ¹³ They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick, and healed them.

¹⁷ He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

⁷⁶ And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to make ready his ways,

⁴ As it is written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight. ⁵ Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low, and the crooked will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth. ⁶ And all humanity will see the salvation of God.'"

¹³ When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, "Do not cry."

¹ He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. ² He sent them forth to proclaim the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

⁵² and sent messengers before his face. They went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.

² As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them." ³ Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. ⁴ So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.

³ I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands, standing before the Lord of the earth. ⁵ If anyone desires to harm them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies. If anyone desires to harm them, he must be killed in this way. ⁶ These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters, to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire. ⁷ When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. ⁹ From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be placed in a tomb. ¹⁰ Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
