¹ Then Job answered, ² "No doubt, but you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn't know such things as these? ⁴ I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke. ⁵ In the thought of him who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune. It is ready for them whose foot slips. ⁶ The tents of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are secure, who carry their god in their hands. ⁷ "But ask the animals, now, and they shall teach you; the birds of the sky, and they shall tell you. ⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you. The fish of the sea shall declare to you. ⁹ Who doesn't know that in all these, the hand of the LORD has done this, ¹⁰ in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all humankind? ¹¹ Doesn't the ear try words, even as the palate tastes its food? ¹² With aged men is wisdom, in length of days understanding. ¹³ "With him is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Look, he breaks down, and it can't be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release. ¹⁵ Look, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away stripped. He makes judges fools. ¹⁸ He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a belt. ¹⁹ He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes the speech of those who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the strong. ²² He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and he destroys them. He enlarges the nations, and he leads them captive. ²⁴ He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.

²⁴ "Teach me, and I will hold my peace. Cause me to understand wherein I have erred. ²⁵ How forcible are words of uprightness. But your reproof, what does it reprove?

⁸ "Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers. ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.) ¹⁰ Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart?

² "Shouldn't the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?

⁶ that he would show you the secrets of wisdom. For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹² An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey's colt.

² "Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge, and fill himself with the east wind?

⁴ For you have hidden their heart from understanding, Therefore you shall not exalt them.

¹⁰ But as for you all, come on now again; I shall not find a wise man among you.

³ I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.

⁷ I said, 'Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.' ⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of Shaddai gives them understanding. ⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice. ¹⁰ Therefore I said, 'Listen to me; I also will show my opinion.' ¹¹ "Look, I waited for your words, and I listened for your reasoning, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yes, I gave you my full attention, but there was no one who convinced Job, or who answered his words, among you. ¹³ Beware lest you say, 'We have found wisdom, God may refute him, not man;'

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him.

²¹ Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.

⁵ I say this to move you to shame. Is there not even one wise person among you who would be able to decide between a brother and his brother? ⁶ Can that which has no flavor be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg? ⁷ My soul refuses to touch them. They are as loathsome food to me.

² What you know, I know also. I am not inferior to you. ³ "Surely I would speak to Shaddai. I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies. You are all physicians of no value. ⁵ Oh that you would be completely silent. Then you would be wise.

² "How have you helped him who is without power. How have you saved the arm that has no strength. ³ How have you counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge. ⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.

⁵ For I reckon that I am not at all behind the very best apostles.

²¹ I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet however any is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also. ²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I. ²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I am more so; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths often.

²⁹ Please return. Let there be no injustice. Yes, return again. My cause is righteous.

³ Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.

²⁰ My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God,

² Surely there are mockers with me. My eye dwells on their provocation.

⁶ "But he has made me a byword of the people. They spit in my face.

³ Allow me, and I also will speak; After I have spoken, mock on.

¹ "But now those who are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheep dogs.

⁷ All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying, ⁸ "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him."

¹⁶ When I tripped, they mocked me relentlessly; they gnashed their teeth at me.

¹⁵ He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.

² He who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

³ 'Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and hidden things, which you do not know.'

⁷ But as for me, I will look to the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

²⁹ They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews."

⁴⁰ And they ridiculed him. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child, her mother, and those who were with him, and went in where the child was.

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.

³² Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, "We want to hear you again concerning this."

³⁶ Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.

³⁵ Vengeance is mine, I will repay, at the time when their foot slides; for the day of their calamity is near, and the things to come hasten upon them."

⁵ Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?

⁴ I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul's place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,

⁵ "Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, The spark of his fire shall not shine.

⁵ My steps have held fast to your paths. My feet have not slipped.

¹⁸ When I said, "My foot is slipping." Your loving kindness, LORD, held me up.

³ Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

⁹ The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

¹ Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the foremost of nations, to whom the house of Israel come. ² Go to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border? ³ Those who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ Who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ who strum on the strings of a harp; who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶ who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁸ The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'

¹⁹ I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."'

¹⁹ "Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day. ²⁰ A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was placed at his gate, full of sores,

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?

⁷ "Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power? ⁸ Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and do not miscarry. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock. Their children dance. ¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe. ¹³ They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol. ¹⁴ They tell God, 'Depart from us, for we do not want to know about your ways. ¹⁵ What is Shaddai, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?'

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ from men with your hand, LORD, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure. They are satisfied with children, and they leave their wealth to their little ones.

¹ [By David.] Do not fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked wielding great power, and towering like a cedar of Lebanon.

¹¹ They say, "How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?" ¹² Look, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches.

²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.

²⁹ Haven't you asked wayfaring men? Do you not know their evidences, ³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel doesn't know, my people do not understand.

⁷ Yes, the stork in the sky knows her appointed times; and the turtledove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people do not know the LORD's law.

¹⁷ and lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth." ¹⁸ But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn't know such things as these?

²⁰ that they may see, know, consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

⁵ "I have made the earth, the men and the animals that are on the surface of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it to whom it seems right to me. ⁶ Now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the animals of the field also have I given him to serve him.

¹⁸ You king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty.

¹⁷ Now therefore, our God, listen to the prayer of your servant, and to his petitions, and cause your face to shine on your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

³⁵ When the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, "You men of Ephesus, is there anyone who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

³⁶ For from him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for ever. Amen.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers. Did not God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor person. Do not the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts? ⁷ Do not they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?

⁷ And God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

¹⁷ And as for me, look, I am bringing a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the earth will die.

²² They fell on their faces, and said, "God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?"

³ (For the length of my life is still in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils);

⁴ The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of Shaddai gives me life.

¹⁴ If he set his heart on himself, If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath, ¹⁵ all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.

²⁹ You hide your face: they are troubled; you take away their breath: they die, and return to the dust.

³ Do not put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help. ⁴ His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish.

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your secondary wives, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things.

²⁸ 'For in him we live, and move, and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.'

³⁰ Is there injustice on my tongue? Can't my taste discern mischievous things?

³ For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise people. Judge what I say.

¹⁰ so that you may approve the things that are excellent; that you may be pure and blameless for the Day of Christ;

¹⁴ But solid food is for those who are full grown, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.

³ if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good:

⁸ "Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers.

¹⁰ With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much elder than your father.

⁷ I said, 'Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.'

⁴ For he is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered?

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? Where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.' ²³ "God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the farthest parts of the earth, and sees under the whole sky. ²⁵ He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder; ²⁷ then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out. ²⁸ To man he said, 'Look, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.'"

⁶ Elihu the son of Barakel the Buzite answered, "I am young, and you are very old; Therefore I held back, and did not dare show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, 'Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.' ⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of Shaddai gives them understanding. ⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.

⁵ "Look, God is mighty, and doesn't despise anyone. He is mighty in strength of understanding.

³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

⁵ Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity;

¹⁴ Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power.

¹³ Who has known the mind of the LORD, or who has instructed him as his counselor? ¹⁴ From whom did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Or who has first given to him, and it will be repaid to him again?

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done; saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure;

¹² He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:

²⁰ Daniel answered, "Blessed be the name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.

³⁴ For "Who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?"

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

⁸ which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

¹¹ in whom also we were assigned an inheritance, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his will;

³ in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without finding fault; and it will be given to him.

⁴⁶ Today, the LORD will deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from off you. And I will give your corpse and the corpses of the Philistine army this very day to the birds of the air, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

¹⁸ And you have declared this day how you have dealt well with me, in that the LORD had delivered me up into your hand and you did not kill me.

⁸ Then Abishai said to David, "God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time."

¹² Look, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, 'What are you doing?' ¹³ "God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.

¹⁰ If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?

¹¹ God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.

¹⁰ He has broken me down on every side, and I am gone. My hope he has plucked up like a tree.

⁷ He seals up the hand of every man, that all men whom he has made may know it.

²³ "I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction," says the LORD of hosts.

²² I will lay the key of the house of David on his shoulder. He will open, and no one will shut. He will shut, and no one will open.

² For you have made a city into a heap, a fortified city into a ruin, a palace of the insolent is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.

⁵⁸ Thus says the LORD of hosts: "The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary."

⁶⁴ and you shall say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring on her; and they shall be weary.'" Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ Whereas Edom says, "We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;" thus says the LORD of hosts, "They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them 'The Wicked Land,' even the people against whom the LORD shows wrath forever."

³² For God has shut up all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all.

⁷ "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: "These are the words of the Holy One, the True One, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens:

¹³ And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. And look, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep were burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

¹⁷ and the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and he shut up the sky, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except by my word."

¹⁰ in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all humankind?

⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ The mountains rose, the valleys sank down, to the place which you had assigned to them. ⁹ You have set a boundary that they may not pass over; that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren't you he, LORD our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things."

⁸ seek him who made Kimah and Kesil, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the LORD is his name,

⁴ He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan languishes, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon languishes.

²⁵ But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.

¹⁷ Elijah was a human being with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit.

⁶ These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters, to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

²² The LORD said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.' ²³ Now therefore, look, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you."

¹³ "With him is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.

⁷ Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him?

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?

⁹ "'"If the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the LORD, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand on him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'

³¹ And it had been told to David, saying, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." David said, "LORD, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness."

¹⁴ Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel." For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil on Absalom.

²³ When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and went home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

¹⁴ with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;

¹² Where then are your sages? And let them tell you now; and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed concerning Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the cornerstone of her tribes. ¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all of its works, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

¹⁴ Therefore, look, I will again do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; and I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will nullify."

¹⁹ For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will nullify." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

¹¹ Therefore the LORD brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² When he was in distress, he begged the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his petition, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God. ¹⁴ Now after this he built an outer wall to the City of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the Fish Gate; and he encircled Ophel with it, and raised it up to a very great height: and he put valiant captains in all the fortified cities of Judah.

¹⁶ LORD, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your handmaid. You have freed me from my chains.

³¹ It happened in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the five and twentieth day of the month, that Awil-Marduk king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison; ³² and he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon, ³³ and changed his prison garments. Jehoiachin ate bread before him continually all the days of his life: ³⁴ and for his allowance, there was a continual allowance given him by the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

²¹ He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding;

¹⁶ He has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, "King of kings, and Lord of lords."

²⁴ It happened, when they brought those kings out to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." They came near, and put their feet on their necks.

⁴² Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ Today, the LORD will deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from off you. And I will give your corpse and the corpses of the Philistine army this very day to the birds of the air, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

²² Yet he preserves the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.

²⁸ so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted.

⁹ "By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

³⁶ The angel of the LORD went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, look, these were all dead bodies. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, went away, returned to Nineveh, and stayed there. ³⁸ It happened, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

¹ Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Koresh, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him, and strip kings of their armor; to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut:

¹⁴ These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings. They also will overcome who are with him, called and chosen and faithful."

¹⁹ I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him who sat on the horse, and against his army. ²⁰ The beast was taken, and with him the false prophet who worked the signs in his sight, with which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. ²¹ The rest were killed with the sword of him who sat on the horse, the sword which came forth out of his mouth. All the birds were filled with their flesh.

²⁴ He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.

¹⁷ because God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has he imparted to her understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.

¹⁹ Truth's lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who do the truth are his delight.

¹ For look, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water; ² the mighty man, the man of war, the judge, the prophet, the diviner, the elder, ³ the captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the clever enchanter.

² If you refuse to let them go, look, I will plague all your borders with frogs:

²⁴ They laid it up until the morning, as Moses asked, and it did not become foul, neither was there any worm in it.

²³ The LORD also spoke of Jezebel, saying, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel in the district of Jezreel. ²⁴ The dogs will eat he who dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field."

²⁶ 'Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons,' says the LORD; 'and I will repay you in this plot of ground,' says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him onto the plot of ground, according to the word of the LORD."

³⁴ When he had come in, he ate and drink; and he said, "See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king's daughter." ³⁵ They went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Therefore they came back, and told him. He said, "This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'The dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel on the plot of Jezreel, ³⁷ and the body of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, "This is Jezebel."'"

⁴⁰ He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in a trackless waste.

²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the belt of their waist be untied, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:

⁵ Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his waist.

²¹ and I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your belt. I will commit your government into his hand; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

⁹ The LORD of hosts has planned it, to defile all the pride of glory, to shame all the honored of the earth.

²¹ It shall happen in that day that the LORD will punish the army of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth on the earth. ²² And they will be gathered, a gathering in a dungeon, and shall be shut up in the prison; and after many days shall they be visited.

³⁸ It happened, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

²¹ He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding; ²² he reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

³² and you shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he wants." ³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹² Being warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."

²³ Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having the belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

¹² One of his servants said, "No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom."

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness, for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? Where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.' ²³ "God understands its way, and he knows its place.

²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where evildoers may hide themselves.

²¹ won't God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² even the darkness doesn't hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.

²² he reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

²⁶ Therefore do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.

⁷⁹ to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace."

¹⁰ But to us God revealed it through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one will get his praise from God.

⁷ The children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

²⁰ God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.

³⁸ He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn't allow their livestock to decrease.

³ You have multiplied the nation. You have increased his joy. They rejoice before you according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

¹⁵ You have increased the nation, O LORD. You have increased the nation. You are glorified. You have enlarged all the borders of the land.

⁶ In days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom and bud. They will fill the surface of the world with fruit.

² Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many.

²² The little one shall become a thousand, and the small one a strong nation; I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time."

¹⁹ Out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

²² As the host of heaven can't be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured; so will I multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levites who minister to me.'"

⁸ I will signal for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them; and they will increase as they have increased.

²⁰ He removes the speech of those who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way. They found no city to live in.

⁹ And he said, "Go, and tell this people, 'In hearing you hear, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not perceive.' ¹⁰ The heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears sluggish, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn back, and I would heal them."

¹ The burden of Egypt: "Look, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt. The idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence; and the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst.

¹⁶ Let his mind be changed from man's, and let an animal's mind be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹¹ "Ephraim is like an easily deceived dove, without understanding. They call to Egypt. They go to Assyria.

¹¹ They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they were unable to find the door.

²⁹ and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: and you shall be only oppressed and robbed always, and there shall be none to save you.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.

²⁷ They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.

¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all of its works, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

²⁰ The earth will stagger like a drunken man, and will sway back and forth like a hammock. Its disobedience will be heavy on it, and it will fall and not rise again.

¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind; yes, we grope as those who have no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; among those who are lusty we are as dead men.

¹¹ Now, look, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
