²⁹ Euen so, whosoeuer goeth into hys neyghbours wyfe, and toucheth her can not be vngilty.

¹⁸ Then Pharao called Abram & sayed: Whi hast thou thus dealt wt me? Wherfore toldest thou me not that she was thy wyfe? ¹⁹ Why saydest thou, that she was thy sister, & causedeste me to take hyr to my wyfe? But nowe loo, there is thy wyfe, take hyr and be walkynge.

⁴ But Abimelech had not yet come nye her, & therfore sayde: Lorde wylt thou sley ryghtewes people? ⁵ sayde not he vnto me, that she was hys syster? yea and sayde not she herself that he was her brother? wyth a pure herte and innocent handes haue I done thys. ⁶ And God sayde vnto hym in a dreame. I wot it wel that thou dyddest it in the purenesse of thy herte. And therfore I kepte the that thou shouldest not synne agaynst me, nether suffred I the to come nygh her. ⁷ Nowe therfore delyuer the man his wyfe agayne, for he is a Prophete. And let him pray for the that thou mayst lyue. But and yf thou delyuer her not agayn, be sure that thou shalt dye the deth, wyth al that thou hast.

¹⁰ Then sayd Abimelech: why haste thou done this vnto vs? one of the people myghte lyghtlye haue lyne by thy wife, and so shuldest thou haue brought synne vpon vs. ¹¹ Than Abimelech charged all his people, saying: he that toucheth this man or his wyfe, shall suerlie dye for it.

¹⁰ He that breaketh wedlocke with another mans wyfe shall dye for it, because he hath broke wedlocke with his neighbours wyfe, and so shall she lykewyse.

³ And he sente to enquyre what woman it shulde be. And it was aunswered agayne, that she was Bethsabe the doughter of Eliam and wyfe to Vrias the Hethite. ⁴ And Dauid sente messengers and fet her, and she came vnto hym, & he laye with her. And she was straight waye puryfyed from her vnclennesse, & returned vnto her house.

⁹ Wherfore hast thou despised the commaundement of the Lorde, to do wyckednesse in hys syght? thou hast kylde Vrias the hethyte with the swerde, and hast taken hys wyfe to thy wyfe, & hast slayne hym wyth the swerde of the chyldren of Amnon. ¹⁰ Now therfore the swerd shal neuer depart from thyne house, because (saythe the Lorde) thou hast despysed me, and taken the wyfe of Vrias the Aethite, to be thy wyfe.

²¹ And Ahithophell sayde vnto Absalom: get the in vnto thy fathers concubines, whiche he hath lefte to kepe the house. For when all Israell shall heare, that thou hast made thy father to styncke, then shall the handes of all that are with the, be stronge.

⁵ The Lorde abhorreth all presumptuous & proude hertes, ther may neyther strength ner powere scape.

⁸ In the desyre of vnclenly luste they are become lyke the stoned horse, euery man neyeth at hys neyghbours wyfe: ⁹ Shulde I not correcte thys, sayeth the Lorde. Shulde I not be auenged of euerye people that is lyke vnto this?

¹¹ Euery man hath dealte shamefully wyth hys neyghboures wyfe, and abhomynably defiled his doughter in law. In the hath euery man forced his owne syster, euen his fathers doughter:

⁵ I wil come and punish you, and I my selfe will be a swyf wytnes against the witches, agaynst the aduouterers, agaynste false swearers: yea, and agaynst those, that wrongeouslye kepe backe the hyrelinges dewtye: which vexe the widdowes and the fatherlesse and oppresse the straunger, and feare not me, sayeth the Lord of Hostes.
