And the priest shall make an atonemente for hym with the ram of the trespace offerynge, & it shal be forgeuen hym.

⁴ Then when he hath synned or trespaced, he shall restore agayne that he toke violently awaye, or the wrong which he dyd, or that whych was deliuered him to kepe, or the lost thyng whiche he found, ⁵ or whatsoeuer it be about whyche he hath sworne falselye he shall restore it agayne in the whole somme, and shall adde the fyfte part more thereto, and giue it vnto hym to whome it pertayneth, the same daye that he offereth for his trespace, ⁶ & shal bryng for hys trespace offerynge vnto the Lorde a ram wythout blemysh out of the flocke, that is estemed worth a trespace offering vnto the prieste.

¹⁸ how be it we may not geue them wiues of oure doughters. For the children of Israel had made an adiuracion saying: cursed be he that geueth a wyfe to Beniamin.

¹¹ and vowed a vowe and said: Lord of hostes, yf thou wylt loke on the wretchednesse of thyne handmayde, and shalt remembre me, and not forget thyne handmayde, & shalte geue vnto thyne handmayde a manchylde I wyll geue him vnto the Lord, all the dayes of hys lyfe, & there shal neyther raser or sheres come vpon hys heade.

²⁸ & therfor I also lend him the Lord, as long as he may be lent the Lorde. And so they prayed there vnto the Lord.

²⁴ And the men of Israel ioyned them selues together that daye: & Saule adiured the people saying: Cursed be he that eateth anye fode vntyll nyghte, that I may be aduenged of myne enemies. And so there was none of the people that tasted any sustinaunce. ²⁵ And all the land came to a woode where honye laye vpon the grounde. ²⁶ And when the people were come into the woodde: Beholde, the honye dropped. How be it there was no man that moued hys hande to hys mouthe, because that the people feared the cursse. ²⁷ But Ionathas heard not when hys father adiured the people, wherfor he put forth the ende of the staffe that was in his hand & dipte it in an honye combe, & put his hande to his mouth, & his eyes receyued sight. ²⁸ Then spake one of the people & sayd: thy father adiured the people saying: Cursed be that man that eateth any sustinaunce this daye, and yet the people were fayntye.

³⁸ Then sayde Saul: let the people come hyther out of all quarters, & knowe and se, in whome thys synne is chaunced thys daye: ³⁹ for as trulye as the Lorde lyueth which hath saued Israel, though it be in Ionathas my sonne he shall dye for it. But no man answered hym of all the people. ⁴⁰ Then he said vnto all Israell: be ye on one syde, & I & Ionathas my sonne wylbe on another. And the people sayde vnto Saule: what thou thynkest best that do. ⁴¹ And Saule sayde vnto the Lorde God of Israell: geue perfecte knoweledge. And Saule and Ionathas were caught, & the people skaped free. ⁴² Then sayde Saul, cast lottes betwene me & Ionathas my sonne. And Ionathas was caughte. ⁴³ Then Saul sayde to Ionathas: tell me what thou hast done. And Ionathas tolde hym & sayde: I tasted a lytle honye vpon the ende of my staffe that was in myne hande, & se, I must dye. ⁴⁴ Then sayd Saul: God do so and so to me except that thou dye Ionathas. ⁴⁵ But the people sayde vnto Saul: shall Ionathas dye whiche hath so myghtely holpe Israel? God forbyd. As truly as the Lorde lyueth, there shall not one hearre of his head fal to the ground: for he hath wroughte with God thys daye. And so the people delyuered Ionathas, that he dyed not. And then Saule departed from folowyng the Philistynes.

³ Now therfor go & smyte the Amaleckites, & onelye destroy ye all that pertayneth vnto them, & se thou haue no compassion on them. But slay both man & woman, infant & sucklyng, & oxe, shepe, camell & Asse.

And haue vtterlye destroyed the Amaleckites. ²¹ And the people toke of the spoyle, shepe, oxen, and the chiefest of the thynges which shulde haue ben destroyed, to offer vnto the Lorde thy God in Galgal. ²² Then sayde Samuel: hath the Lorde as great pleasure in burnt sacryfyces & offerynges, as he hath that thou shouldest obeye hys voyce? Beholde, to obeye is better then offeryng, and to geue heade is better then the fat of rammes. ²³ For rebellyousnesse is as the synne of witchcrafte, & stoburnesse is wyckednesse and Idolatrye. Because therfore thou hast cast awaye the worde of the Lorde, therfore hath the Lorde caste awaye the also, from beynge Kynge.

³² Then sayde Samuel: Bryng ye hyther to me Agag the Kynge of the Amaleckytes. And Agag came vnto hym delycately. And Agag said: truly the bytternesse of death cometh on. And Samuel sayde: ³³ As thy swerde hath made wemen chyldelesse, so shall thy mother be chyldlesse among other wemen. And so Samuell hewed Agag in peces before the Lord in Galgal. And then Samuell departed to Ramath.

⁴ And Iehoas sayde to the prieste: all the syluer that is dedicate & brought to the house of the Lorde in curraunt money, that is to saye, the money that euerye man is set at, with all the moneye that euerye mannes herte geueth hym to brynge into the house of the Lord,

⁵ And as sone as the worde came abroade the chyldren of Israel brought aboundance of fyrste fruites of corne, wyne, olye and hony, and of all maner of fruites of the feld: and the tythes of all maner of thynges brought they in plenteously. ⁶ And the chyldren of Israel and Iuda that dwelte in the cyties of Iuda, they also brought in the tythes of oxen & shepe, and tythes of dedycate thynges which were dedicated to the Lorde theyr God, and put them on heapes.

¹² and caryed in the heaue offeringes and the tythes and the dedycate gyftes euen of fydelyte. Ouer which Chonaniah the Leuite had the rule wyth Semei hys brother nexte to hym.

⁸ And that whosoeuer came not within thre dayes accordynge to the deuyce of the rulers and elders, all hys substaunce shoulde be forfet, and be put oute from the congregacyon of the captyue.

³⁷ and that we shulde bryng the fyrstlynges of oure dowghe, and of oure heaueofferynges, and the frutes of all maner trees, of wyne also and of oyle, vnto the priestes to the chestes of the house of oure God. And the tythes of oure lande vnto the Leuytes, that the Leuytes myghte haue the tithes in all the cytyes of oure mynystracyon. ³⁸ And the prieste the sonne of Aaron shall wt the Leuytes haue also of the tythes of the Leuytes, so that the Leuytes shall brynge vp the tythes of theyr tythes vnto the house of oure God to the cheste in the treasure house.

⁴⁴ At the same tyme were there men appoynted ouer the treasure chestes (wherein were the heaueofferynges, the fyrste lynges and the tythes) that they shulde gather them oute of the feldes aboute the cytyes, to destrybute them vnto the pristes and Leuytes accordynge to the lawe: for Iuda was glad of the priestes, and Leuytes, that they stode and wayted

⁵ for he had made hym a greate cheste, and there had they afore tyme layed the meatofferynges, frankencense vessel, and the tythes of corne, wyne and oyle (accordynge to the commaundement geuen to the Leuytes, syngers & porters) and the heaueofferynges of the priestes.

¹⁰ The dayes of oure age are .iij. score yeares and ten: and though men be so strong that they come to foure score yeares, yet is their strength then but laboure, & sorowe: so soone passeth it awaye, and we are gone.

² O let me haue vnderstandynge in the way of Godlynesse vntyll the tyme that thou come vnto me: and so shall I walcke in my house wyth an innocent herte. ³ I wyl take no wycked thynge in hande, I hate the synne of vnfaythfulnesse, it shal not cleaue vnto me. ⁴ A frowarde harte shall departe fro me I wyll not knowe a wicked personne. ⁵ Who so preuely sclaundereth hys neyghboure. hym wyl I destroye: Who so hath a prowd loke and an hye stomacke, I may not awaye with him. ⁶ Myne eyes shal loke for such as be faythfull in the lande, that they maye dwell wyth me: and who so leadeth a godly liue, shall be my seruaunt. ⁷ There shall no disceatfull personne dwell in my house he that telleth lyes shall not tary in my syght.

⁴ If thou make a vowe vnto God, be not slacke to perfourme it. As for folish vowes, he hath no pleasure in them. ⁵ If thou promise any thynge, paye it: for better it is that thou make no vowe then that thou shouldest promyse, and not paye.

⁷ Shulde I then for al thys haue mercy vpon the? Thy chyldren haue forsaken me, & sworne by them that are no Goddes. And albe it they were bounde to me in maryage, yet they fell to aduoutrye, and haunted harlottes houses.

³⁷ I will bring you vnder my iurisdiccion, & vnder the bonde of the couenaunt.

²⁹ The meatoffrynge, synoffrynge & trespaceoffrynge shall they eate, and euery dedycate thing in Israel, shalbe theirs.

¹¹ The Ephah and the Bath shalbe a like. One Bath shall conteyne the tenth parte of an Homer, and so shall one Ephah do: their measure shall be after the Homer. ¹² One Sycle maketh .xx. Geras. So .xx. Sicles, and .xxv. & .xv. Sycles make a pounde.

² So I gat her for .xv. syluerlinges, & for an Homer & an halt of barley,

¹⁴ Therfore fede thy people wyth thy rodde, the flocke of thyne herytage which dwell desolate in the woodde, that they maye be fedde vpon the mounte of Charmell, Basan & Galaad as afore tyme.

So they wayed doune .xxx. syluer pens, the value that I was prysed at. ¹³ And the Lorde sayd vnto me: cast it vnto the potter (a goodly pryce for me to be valued at of them) & I toke the .xxx. siluer pens, & cast them to the potter in the house of the Lorde.

¹⁴ Cursed be the dissembler, which hath in his flocke one that is male and when he maketh a vowe, offereth a spoted one vnto the lord. For I am a great king (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) and my name is fearfull amonge the Heathen.

⁸ Shoulde a man vse falshede and disceyte with God as ye vse falshede and disceyte wyth me? Yet ye saye: wherin vse we disceyt wyth the? In Tithes & heaueofferinges. ⁹ Therfore are ye cursed with penury, because ye dissemble with me, all the sorte of you. ¹⁰ Bringe euerye Tithe into my barne, that there maye be meat in myne house: and proue me withall (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) yf I will not open the windowes of heauen vnto you, and poure you out a blessynge with plenteousnesse.

²³ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, which tythe mynte, anyse and commen, and leaue the wayghtyer matters of the lawe vndone: iudgement, mercy, and faythe. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue lefte the other vndone.

⁴¹ Then shall the kinge saye vnto them that shalbe on the lyfte hande. Departe from me ye cursed, into euerlastinge fyre, which is prepared for the deuyll and hys angels.

¹⁵ and sayd: What wyll ye geue me, and I wyll delyuer him vnto you? And they appoynted vnto him thyrtye peces of syluer.

⁹ Then was fulfylled that which was spoken by Ieremy the Prophete saying: and they toke thyrty syluer plates the pryce of hym that was valewed, whom they bought of the chyldren of Israell. ¹⁰ and they gaue them for the potters fylde: as the Lorde appoynted me.

⁷ For ye shall haue poore men with you alwayes, & whensoeuer ye wyll, ye maye do them good, but me ye shal not haue alwayes.

⁴² But wo be to you Pharyses: for the tyth the mint and rew, and al maner herbes, and passe ouer iudgement and the loue of God. These ought ye to haue lefte the other vndone.

⁴ Pertained it not vnto the onelie, and after it was solde, was not the price in thine owne power? Howe is that, thou hast conceiued this thinge in thyne herte? Thou hast not lied vnto men, but vnto God.

But there he receyueth tythes of whome it is wytnessed, that he lyueth. ⁹ And to say the trueth. Leuy hym selfe also whiche receyueth tythes, payed tythes in Abraham.

For yf they escaped not whiche refused hym, that spake on earth: muche more shall we not escape, yf we turne awaye from hym that speaketh from heauen:
