¹⁹ And though God saue their children from suche sorowe, yet wyl he so rewarde them selues, that they shall knowe it.

⁷ But and yf thou dost euell, by & by thy synne lyeth open in the dore. Notwithstandyng let it be subdued vnto the, and sea thou rule it.

⁵ Se that thou neither bowe thy self vnto them neither serue them: for I the Lord thy God, am a gelouse God, & viset the synne of the fathers vppon the chyldren vnto the thyrd and fourth generacion of them that hate me:

³⁴ Are not such thynges layed in store wyth me, and sealed vp among my treasures?

⁴¹ If I whett the edge of my swerd, & mine hand take in hand to do iustice, I wil shewe vengeaunce on myne enemyes & wyl reward them that hate me.

³⁹ And I am thys daye tender, thoughe I be anoynted kyng. And these men the sonnes of Zaruiah be to good for me to rule? But the Lorde rewarde the doer of euyll accordynge to hys wyckednesse.

²⁴ He shall geue the an haruest, whiche in plenty & aboundance shall exceade the dust of the earth, and the gould of Ophir lyke riuer stones

⁵ He shall reward euel vnto myne enemies and in thy trueth shalt thou destroy them.

⁹ Let hys chyldren be fatherlesse, and hys wyfe a wydowe. ¹⁰ Let his children be vagabaundes, and bege their breade: lette them seke it, as they that be destroyed. ¹¹ Let the extorcioner consume al that he hath and let straungers spoyle his laboure. ¹² Let ther be no man to pytye, ner to haue compassyon vpon his fatherles chyldren. ¹³ Let hys ende be destruccyon, & in the next generacion let his name be cleane put oute. ¹⁴ Let the wickednesse of his fathers be had in remembraunce in the syght of the Lorde & and let not the synne of hys mother be done awaye. ¹⁵ Let them alway be before the Lorde, but as for the memoryall of them selues, let it perysh from out of the earth. ¹⁶ And that because hys mynde was not to do good. but persecuted the poore helplesse, and hym that was vexed at the harte, to slay hym. ¹⁷ Hys delyte was in cursynge, and therfore shall it happen vnto hym: he loued not blessynge and that shall be far from hym. ¹⁸ He clothed hym selfe wyth cursynge lyke as wyth a rayment: yea it wente into hys bowels lyke water, and lyke oile into his bone ¹⁹ Let it be vnto hym as the cloke that he hath vpon hym, and as the gyrdle that he is gyrded with al. ²⁰ Let it thus happen from the Lorde vnto myne enemyes, and to those that speake euel agaynst my soule. ²¹ But deale thou wyth me, O Lorde God, accordynge vnto thy name, for swete is thy mercy. O deliuer me, ²² for I am helplesse, and pore and my herte is wounded within me. ²³ I go hence lyke the shadowe that departeth, & am driuen away as the greshoppers. ²⁴ My knees are weake thorow fastynge my flesh is dryed vp for want of fatnesse. ²⁵ I am become a rebuke vnto them, they loke vpon me and shake their heades. ²⁶ Helpe me, O Lorde my God, oh saue me for thy mercies sake. ²⁷ That they maye knowe, how that thys is thy hand, and that thou hast done it. ²⁸ Though they curse, yet blesse thou: and let them be confounded, that ryse vp agaynst me, but let thy seruaunt reioyse. ²⁹ Let myne aduersaryes be clothed wyth their owne shame, as with a cloke. ³⁰ As for me, I wyl geue thanckes vnto the Lord wyth my mouth, and praise hym among the multitude. ³¹ For he standeth at the ryght hand of the pore, to saue hym from suche as condempne hys soule.

²¹ There shall a way be sought to destroye their chyldren, for their fathers wyckednes: they shall not come vp agayne to possesse the lande, and fyll the worlde ful of castels and townes.

⁴ Howbeit (of a trueth) he only taketh awaye oure infyrmyte, and beareth our payne: Yet we shal iudge him, as though he were plaged & caste doune of God: ⁵ where as he (notwithstanding) shal be wounded for oure offences, & smytten for oure wickednes. For the payne of oure punyshmente shalbe sayde vpon hym, and with hys strypes shall we be healed. ⁶ As for vs, we go all astraye (lyke shepe) euery one turneth hys owne waye. But thorow hym, the Lorde pardoneth all oure synnes.

²⁹ Then shall it no more be sayde: the fathers haue eaten a sower grape, and the chyldrens teeth are set on edge:

² what meane by thys comen prouerbe that ye vse in the land of Israel sayinge: The fathers haue eaten soure grapes, and the childrens teth are set on edge?

¹⁴ Now yf this man get a sonne also, that seyth al his fathers synnes, whiche he hath done: and feareth, neyther doth such lyke.

¹⁹ And yet saye ye: Wherfore then should not this sonne beare his fathers sinne? Therfore: because the sonne hath done equitie and ryght, hath kepte al my commaundementes, and done them: therfore shal he leue in dede. ²⁰ The same soule that synneth, shall dye. The sonne shal not beare the fathers offence, neyther shall the father beare the sonnes offence. The ryghteousnes of the righteous shalbe vpon him, and the wickednes of the wycked shalbe vpon him selfe also.

¹⁸ Turne you therfore, and consydre what difference is betwyxt the ryghteous & vngodly: betwyxt him that serueth God, and him that serueth him not.

¹⁹ Se that ye gater you not treasure vpon the earth, where ruste & mothes corrupte, & wher theues breake throughe & steale. ²⁰ But gather ye treasure together in heauen, where neither rust nor mothes corrupt, & where theues neyther breake vp nor yet steale.

²⁷ For the sonne of man shall come in the glorye of hys father, wyth hys aungels: & then shall he rewarde euery man accordyng to his dedes.

³¹ So then ye be witnesses to your selues, that ye are the chyldren of them whyche kylled the Prophetes. ³² Fulfil ye likewyse the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpentes and generacion of vppers howe shoulde ye scape the damnacion of hell? ³⁴ Wherfore, behold I send vnto you Prophetes, wise men, & Scribes. Of them ye shal kyl and crucifye: and of them ye shall scourge in your synagoges, and persecute from citye to citye ³⁵ that vpon you may come all the ryghtuous bloude that was shede vpon the earth, from the bloude of ryghtuous Abel, vnto the bloude of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whom ye slewe betwene the tempel and the aulter.

⁵ But thou after thyne harde herte that can not repente, heapeste the together the treasure of wrath againste the daye of vengaunce, when shall be opened the rightuous iudgement of God,

²¹ for he hath made hym to be synne for vs, whiche knewe no synne, that we by hys meanes should be that ryghtuousnes whiche before God is allowed.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmyth dyd me muche euyll, the Lorde rewarde him, according to hys dedes,

⁶ Reward her euen as she rewarded you, & geue her double accordinge to her workes. And youre in double to her in the same cuppe, which she fylled vnto you.
