¹ Man that is borne of a woman, hath but a shorte tyme to lyue, and is full of diuerse miseries.

⁹ And Iacob sayd vnto Pharao: the dayes of my pilgremage are an hundred and .xxx. yeres. Fewe & euell haue the dayes of my lyfe bene, & haue not attayned vnto the yeres of the lyfe of my fathers in the dayes of their pilgremages.

⁷ but is man, that is borne vnto mysery, lyke as the byrde for to fle.

¹ Is not the lyfe of man vpon earth a verye batayl? Are not hys daies lyke the daies of an hired seruaunte?

⁶ my dayes passe ouer more spedelye, then a weeuer can weeue out his webbe: and are gone, or I am a warre.

²⁵ My dayes haue bene more swyfte then a runner: they are gone sodenly, and haue sene no good thynge.

¹⁴ What is man, that he shoulde be cleane? what hath he (whiche is borne of a woman) wherby he myght be knowne to be ryghtuous?

⁴ But how may a man compared vnto God, be iustified? Or, how can he be cleane that is borne of a woman?

⁵ Behold, thou hast made my dayes a span longe, and my lyfe as it were nothynge before the. O how vayne are all men liuing? Selah

⁵ Beholde, I was borne in wickednesse, & in synne hath my mother conceyued me.

¹⁷ Thus began I to be werye of my lyfe, in so muche that I coulde awaie wyth nothynge that is done vnder the Sunne, for all was but vanytye and vexacion of mynde:

²³ but heauinesse, sorow and disquietnes al the daeis of his life? In so much that his herte can not rest in the night. Is not this also a vaine thing?

¹¹ Verely I say vnto you, amonge the children of women arose ther not a greater then Iohn the Baptist. Notwithstandinge he that is lesse in the kingdome of heauen, is greater then he.
