Suche as men thyncke also to be perfecte amonge these, are but cast awaye. ¹⁷ Therfore shall the Lorde haue no pleasure in their yonge men, neyther fauoure their fatherlesse and wyddowes. For they are all together ypocrytes and wicked, and all their mouthes speake foly. After all this shall not the Lordes wrathe ceasse, but yet his hande shalbe stretched oute still. ¹⁸ For the vngodlye burne as a fyre in the bryers and thornes. And as it were oute of a fyre in a wood or a read bushe, so ascendeth the smoke of their pryde. ¹⁹ For this cause shall the wrath of the Lorde of Hostes fal vpon the lande, and the people shalbe consumed, as it were with fyre, no man shall spare his brother. ²⁰ Yf a man do turne him to the ryght hande, he shall famishe, or to the lefte hande to eate, he shall not haue ynough. ⁴ Alas for thys synfull people, whiche are ouerladen with blasphemyes, a frowarde generacyon, wicked chyldren. They haue forsaken the Lorde, they haue prouoked the holy one of Israell vnto anger, and are gone backwarde. ⁵ Wherfore shulde ye be plaged any more? For ye are euer fallyng away. The whole head is sick, & the herte is very heauy.

³¹ And as for the glorye of these thynges, it shalbe turned to drye straw, and he that made them to a sparke. And they shall both burne together, so that no man shalbe able to quenche them.

The Lyon shall eate strawe like the oxe, or the cowe. ⁸ The chylde whyle he sucketh, shal haue a desyre to the serpentes nest, and when he is weaned, he shall put his hand into the Cochatryce denne. ⁹ No man shall do euyl to another, no man shall destroye another, in all the hyll of my Sanctuarye. For the earth shalbe full of the knowledge of the Lorde, euen as thoughe the water of the sea floweth ouer the earth.

This hath he made depe & wyde, the noryshing thereof is fyre & woode innumerable, whiche the breathe of the Lorde kyndleth, as it were a matche of brymstone.

³² For the escaped shall go out of Ierusalem, and the remaunte from the mount Syon. And this shall the gelousy of the Lorde of hostes bringe to passe.

³⁶ Thus the angel went forth, and slewe of the Assyrians hoste, an .clxxxv. thousande. And when men arose, vp earlye (at Ierusalem:) Beholde, all laye full of deed bodyes.

¹⁶ Yet art thou oure father: For Abraham knoweth vs not, neither is Israel acquainted with vs. But thou Lorde art oure father and redemer and thy name is euerlastinge.

¹⁸ but men shalbe glad and euermore reioise, for the thinges, that I shall do. For why: Behold, I shal make a ioyfull Ierusalem, ¹⁹ yea and my selfe wyl reioyse with Ierusalem, and be glad with my people: And the voyce of wepynge and waylinge shall not be heard in her from thenceforth.

¹⁰ Reioyse with Ierusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that loue her. Be ioyful with her, all ye that mourneth for her.

¹² For thus sayeth the Lorde: Beholde, I wyll let peace into her, lyke a water floude, and the myght of the Heathen lyke a flowinge streame. Then shall ye sucke, ye shalbe borne vpon her sides and be ioyfull vpon her knees.

¹⁵ For behold the Lorde shall come with fyre, and hys charet shalbe lyke a whirle winde, that he maye recompence his vengeaunce in his wrath and hys indignacyon wt the flamme of fyre. ¹⁶ For the Lorde shall iudge all fleshe with the fyre, and with his swearde, & there shalbe a greate nombre slayne of the Lorde.

⁸ Wherfore girde youre selues about with sacke clothe mourne and wepe for the fearfull wrath of the Lorde shall not be withdrawen from you.

¹ Loke thorow Ierusalem, beholde and se: Seke thorow the her stretes also wythin, yf ye can fynde one man, that doth equall and right, or that laboureth to be faythfull: and I shall spare hym (sayeth the Lorde.)

³ Where as thou (O Lorde) lokest only vpon faythe and truthe. Thou hast scourged them, but they toke no repentaunce: thou hast correcte them for amendement, but they refused thy correccion. They made their faces harder then a stone, and woulde not amende.

³¹ The Prophetes teache falsely, and the priestes folowe them, and my people hath pleasure therein. What wyll come thereof at the laste.

²⁵ Poure oute thyne indygnacion rather vpon the Gentyles, that knowe the not, and vpon the people that call not on thy name: And that because they haue consumed, deuoured and destroyed Iacob, and haue roted out hys glorye.

¹⁶ Honoure the Lorde youre God herein, or he take hys lyght from you, and or euer youre fete stomble in darcknesse at the hylle lest when ye loke for the lyght, he turne it into the shadowe and darcknesse of death.

¹⁴ And the Lorde sayde vnto me: The prophetes preach lyes vnto them in my name. I haue not spoken wyth them, nether gaue I them eny charge, nether dyd I sende them: yet they preach vnto you false visions, charming vanite, & disceytfulnesse of their owne herte. ¹⁵ Therfore thus saieth the Lorde: As for those prophetes that preache in my name (whom I neuertheles haue not sent) and that saye: Tush, there shall nether batell ner honger be in this lande: Wyth swearde and with honger shall those prophetes perysh,

²¹ Therfore let their chyldren dye of hunger and lett them be oppressed with the swearde. Let their wyues be robbed of their chyldren, and become widdowes: let their housbandes be slayne, lett their yonge men be kylled with the swearde in the felde.

⁹ I wyll fede them also with the fleshe of their sonnes and their daughters. Yee euery one shall eate vp another in the besegynge & straytnesse, wherwith their enemyes (that seke their lyues) shall kepe them in.

⁵ Beholde, the tyme commeth, sayeth the Lorde, that I will rayse vp the ryghtuous braunche of Dauid, which shall beare rule, and discusse matters wyth wysdome, & shall sett vp equyte & rightuousnes agayne in the earth.

And thys is the name that they shall call hym: euen the Lorde oure ryghtuous maker.

⁹ My herte breaketh in my bodye because of the false prophetes, all my bones shake: I am become lyke a droncken man (that by the reason of wyne can take no reste) for verye feare of the Lorde, and of hys holy wordes:

¹⁴ I haue sene also amonge the Prophetes of Ierusalem foule aduouterye, and presumptuous lyes. They take the moste shamefull men by the hande, flatryng them, so that they can not returne from their wickednes. All these wyth their cytesyns are vnto me, as Sodom, and as the inhabitours of Gomorre. ¹⁵ Therfore thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes concernynge the prophetes: Beholde, I wyll fede them with wormwod, and make them dryncke the water of gall. For from the prophetes of Ierusalem is the sycknes and ypocrisye come in to all the lande.

²⁵ I haue herde well ynough, what the prophetes saye, that preache lyes in my name, sayinge: I haue dreamed, I haue dreamed. ²⁶ How longe wyll this continue in the prophetes hertes, to tell lyes, and to preach the craftye sotylete of their owne herte? ²⁷ Whose purpose is (wyth the dreames that euery one tell) to make my people forgete my name, as their forefathers dyd, when Baal came vp.

⁹ And therfore folowe not youre Prophetes, sothsayers, expounders of dreames, charmers and wytches whiche saye vnto you: ye shall not serue the Kynge of Babylon. ¹⁰ For they preache you lyes: to brynge you farre from your lande, and that I myghte caste you oute, and destroye you.

¹⁴ Therfore geue no eare vnto those Prophetes that tell you: Ye shall not serue the kynge of Babylon, for they preache you lyes, ¹⁵ neyther haue I sente them, sayeth the Lorde: howebeit they are bolde, falsely to prophecye in my name, that I myghte the sooner dryue you oute, and that ye myghte peryshe wyth youre preachers.

¹⁵ Then sayde the Prophete Ieremye vnto the prophet Hananiah: Heare me (I praye the) Hananiah: The Lorde hath not sent the, but thou bringest this people into a false belefe. ¹⁶ And therfore thus sayth the Lorde: beholde, I wyll sende the out of the land, & within a year thou shalte dye because thou haste falsely spoken agaynste the Lord.

¹¹ For I knowe what I haue deuysed for you sayeth the Lorde. My thoughtes are to geue you peace, and not trouble (whiche I geue you all redye) & that ye might haue hope agayn.

²¹ Thus hath the Lorde of hoostes the God of Israell spoken, of Ahab the sonne of Colaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maasiah, whiche prophecye lyes vnto you in my name: Beholde I wyll delyuer them into the hande of Nabuchodonozor the kynge of Babylon, that he maye slaye them before youre eyes. ²² And all the presonners of Iuda that are in Babylon, shall take vpon them thys terme of cursynge, and saye: Now God do vnto the, as he dyd vnto Zedekiah & Ahab, whome the kynge of Babylon rosted in the fyre,

⁸ For in that daye, sayeth the Lorde, I wyll take his yocke from of thy rocke, & breake thy bondes. They shall no more serue straunge Goddes vnder hym,

⁷ for thus sayeth the Lorde: Reioyce wyth gladnes because of Iacob, crye vnto the heade of the Gentyles: speake oute, synge, and saye: The Lorde shall delyuer hys people, the remnaunte of Israell, and make them whol

¹² And they shal come, & reioyce vpon the hyll of Syon, and shall haue plenteousnes of goodes, whiche the Lorde shall geue them: Namely, wheate, wyne, oyle yonge shepe & calues. And theyr concyence shalbe as well watred garden, for they shal no more be hongrye. ¹³ Then shall the mayde reioyce in the daunce yea both yonge and olde folkes. For I wyll turne theyr sorowe into gladnesse, and wyll comforte them, and make them ioyfull, euen from theyr hertes. ¹⁴ I wyll poure plenteousnes vpon the hertes of the Priestes, and my people shalbe satisfyed with good thinges, saith the Lorde.

¹⁸ Moreouer I hearde Ephraim, that was led awaye captyue, complayne on thys maner: O Lorde, thou haste correcte me, and thy chastening haue I receyued, as an vntamed calfe. Conuerte thou me, and I shalbe conuerted, for thou arte my Lorde God: ¹⁹ Yea as sone as thou turnest me, I shall refourme my self: and when I vnderstande, I shall smyte vpon my thyghe. For verelye I haue committed shamefull thinges: O let my youth beare this reprofe and confusyon. ²⁰ Vpon this complainte, I thoughte thus by my selfe: is not Ephraim my deare sonne? Is he not the chylde, with whom I haue had all myrthe and pastyme? For sence the tyme that I fyrst commened with him, I haue him euer in remembraunce: therfore my verye herte dryueth me vnto hym, gladly and louynglye will I haue mercy vpon him, sayth the Lorde.

²² Howe longe wilte thou go astraye, O thou shrinkinge doughter? For the Lorde wil worke a new thynge vpon earthe: A woman shall compasse a man.

²⁴ Behold, there are bullworckes made now against the citie, to take it: and it shabe wonne of the Caldees that besege it, with swerde, wt honger and death, and loke what thou haste spoken, that same shall come vpon them. For lo, all thinges are present vnto the:

¹⁵ In those dayes and at the same tyme, I wil bringe forthe vnto Dauid, the braunche of righteousnes, and he shal do equite and ryghteousnesse in the lande. ¹⁶ In those dayes shal Iuda be helped, and Ierusalem shall dwel safe, and he that shal cal her, is euen God our ryghteous maker. ¹⁷ For thus the Lorde promyseth: Dauid shal neuer want one, to syt vpon the stole of the house of Israell: ¹⁸ neyther shal the priestes and Leuites want one to offre alwaye before me burntofferinges, to kyndle the meatofferynges, and to prepare the sacryfyces. ¹⁹ And the worde of the Lorde came vnto Ieremy after this maner. ²⁰ Thus sayeth the lord: May the couenaunt whiche I haue made wt daye and night be broken, that there shoulde not be day and night in due season? ²¹ Then maye my couenaunt also be broken, whyche I made with Dauid my seruaunte, and so he not to haue a sonne to reygne in hys Trone. So shall also the Priestes and Leuites neuer fayle, but serue me.

¹¹ But now that Nabuchodonozor the Kyng of Babilon came vp into the lande, we sayde: come, let vs go to Ierusalem, that we maye escape the Hoste of the Caldees and the Assirians, and so we dwell nowe at Ierusalem.

²⁸ Neuertheles, those that fled away for the swerde, shal come agayne into the land of Iuda, but there shalbe verye fewe of them. And all the remnaunte of Iuda, that are gone into Egypte, there to dwel, shal knowe whose wordes shalbe founde true: theirs or myne. ²⁹ Take this for a token, that I wyll vyset you in this place, sayeth the Lorde, and that ye maye knowe, howe that I (wythoute doute) will perfourme my purpose vpon you, to punishe you.

³ at the noyse & stampynge of theyr stronge barbed horses, at the shakynge of theyr charettes and at the romblynge of the wheles. The fathers shall not loke to theyr chyldren, so feable and wery shall theyr handes be:

⁴ In those dayes & at that time sayeth the Lorde, the children of Israell shall come, they and the children of Iuda, wepyng & makinge haste, and shall seke the Lord their God. ⁵ They shall aske the waye to Sion, thyther shall they turne theyr faces, & come and hange vpon the, in a couenaunte that neuer shall be broken.

¹⁰ Iod. The wemen (which of nature are pitieful) haue sodden their owne children with their handes that they might be their meate, in the miserable destruccion of the daughter of my people.

⁹ Myne eye shall not ouerse the, nether will I spare the: but rewarde the after thy wayes, and shewe thy abhomynacions, to learne you for to knowe, how that I am the Lorde that smyteth.

²⁷ The king shal mourne, the Princes shalbe clothed with heuinesse, and the handes of the people in the lande shall tremble for feare. I wyll do vnto them after theyr owne wayes, and according to theyr owne iudgementes wyll I iudge them, to learne them for to knowe, that I am the Lorde.

⁵ And to the other, he sayde that I myght heare: Go ye after hym thorow the cytye, slaye, ouerse none, spare none:

¹ The worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying: ² Thou sonne of man. Speake prophecye agaynst those Prophetes, that preache in Israel: & say thou vnto them that prophecye oute of theyr owne hertes: Heare the worde of the Lorde, ³ thus sayeth the Lorde God: Wo be vnto those folysh prophetes, that folowe their owne spryte, and speake where they se nothyng ⁴ O Israell, thy prophetes are lyke the foxes vpon the drye felde: ⁵ For they stande not in the gappes, nether make they an hedge for the house of Israel, that men myght abyde the parell in the daye of the Lord. ⁶ Vayne thinges they se, & tel lyes, to maintayne their preachynges with al. The Lorde (saye they) hath spoken it, when in very dede the Lorde hath not sent them. ⁷ Vayne vysions haue ye sene, and spoken false Prophecyes, when ye saye: the Lorde hathe spoken it where as I neuer sayde it. ⁸ Therfore, thus sayth the Lorde God: Because youre wordes be vayne, & ye seke oute lyes: Beholde, I wyll vpon you, saith the Lord ⁹ Myne handes shall come vpon the Prophetes that loke out vayne thinges, & preache lies: thei shal not be in the councell of my people, nor writen in the boke of the house of Israel, neyther shall they come in the lande of Israel, that ye maye knowe, how that I am the Lorde God. ¹⁰ And that for this cause, they haue disceyued my people, and tolde them of peace, where no peace was. One setteth vp a wal, and they daube it with louse claye. ¹¹ Therfore tell them which dawbe it wyth vntempered morter, that it shal fal. For there shal come a great shower of rayne, greate stones shall fall vpon it, and a sore storme of wynde shal breake it, ¹² so shall the wal come doune. Shal it not then be sayde vnto you: where is now the morter, that ye daubed it with all? ¹³ Therfore thus sayth the Lorde God: I wyll breake oute in my wrothfull displeasure with a stormye wynd, so that in myne anger there shall come a myghtye shower of rayne, & hayle stones in my wrath, to destroye withall. ¹⁴ As for the wall, that ye haue dawbed wyth vntempered morter, I wyll breake it doune, make it eauen wyth the grounde, so that the foundacyon therof shall remoue, & it shall fal, yea and ye youre selues shall perysh in the middest therof: to learne you for to knowe, that I am the Lord. ¹⁵ Thus wil I perfourme my wrath vpon thys wall, and vpon them that haue dawbed it with vntempered morter, and then wyll I saye vnto you: The wall is gone, and the dawbers are awaye. ¹⁶ These are the Prophetes of Israel, whiche prophecye vnto the cytye of Ierusalem, and loke oute vysyons of peace for them, where as no peace is, sayeth the Lorde God.

¹⁹ and dishonoure me to my people, for an handfull of barleye, and for a pece of breade: when ye kyll the soules of them, that dye not, & promes lyfe to them, that lyue not: Thus ye dyssemble with my people, that beleueth youre lyes.

²² Seynge that with youre lyes ye discomforte the herte of the ryghteous, whome I haue not discomforted: Agayne. For so muche as ye corage the hande of the wycked, so that he maye not turne from hys wicked waye, and lyue:

³³ As truly as I liue, sayeth the Lorde God, I my selfe wyll rule you with a myghty hand with a stretched out arme, and with indignacyon poured out ouer you:

⁴⁷ and say to the the wood toward the south: Heare the worde of the Lorde: thus sayeth the Lorde God: Beholde, I wil kindle a fire in the, that shal consume the grene trees with the drye. No man shal be able to quenche hys flamme, but al that loketh from the south to the north, shalbe brent therin: ⁴⁸ & al flesh shal se, that I the Lord haue kindled it, so that no man maye quenche it.

¹³ Thy filthinesse is abhominable, for I woulde haue clensed the, but thou wouldest not be clensed. Thou canste not be pourged from thyne vnclennesse, tyll I haue poured my wrothfull indignacyon vpon the.

¹⁹ Thus wyll I punysh Egipte that they may know, how that I am the Lord.

³³ When thys commeth to passe (for lo, it commeth in dede) then shall they know, that there hath ben a Prophet among them.

²¹ Then spared I my holy name, which the house of Israell had dishonoured amonge the Gentyles, to whom they came. ²² Therfore tell the house of Israell: Thus sayeth the Lord God: I do not this for youre sakes (O house of Israell) but for my holye names sake, whyche ye dyshonoured amonge the Heathen, when ye came to them. ²³ Therfore, I wyll halowe my greate name agayne, which amonge the Gentiles is euell spoken of: for ye yourselues haue dishonoured it amonge them. And the Gentiles shal knowe that I am the Lord, when I am honoured in you before their eyes, sayeth the Lorde God.

⁸ Beholde, it commeth, and shalbe fulfylled in dede, sayeth the Lord God. This is the daye wherof I haue spoken: ⁹ They that dwell in the cyties of Israel, shall go forth & set fyre vpon the weapens, & burne them: shyldes & speres bowes and arowes, bylles & clubbes: seuen yeares ¹⁰ shall they be burnynge therof, so that they shall els bringe no styckes from the felde, nether haue nede to hew downe eny out of the wodde: For they shal haue weapens ynow to burne. They shall robbe those that robbed them, & spoyle those that spoyled them sayeth the Lorde God.

³⁵ then was the yron, the earthe, the copper, the syluer and gold broken altogether in peces: and be came lyke the chaffe of corne, that the wynde bloweth awaye from the somer floores, that they can no more be founde. But the stone that smote the Image, became a greate mountayne, whiche fulfilleth the whole earthe:

⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer.

¹⁴ Then gaue he hym power and dignitie regal, that al people trybes and tunges shoulde serue him. Hys power is an euerlastynge power, whych shal neuer be put doune, and his kingdome endureth vncorrupte.

²⁷ As for the kingedome, power and all might that is vnder the heauen, it shalbe geuen to the holy people of the most hyest, whose kingedome is euerlastinge, yea all powers shall serue & obeye him.

²⁴ .Lxx. weakes are determed ouer thy people, and ouer the holy citie: that the wickednesse maye be consumed, that the sinne maye haue an ende, that the offence may be reconcyled, and to bringe in euerlastinge righteousnesse, to fulfill the visions and the Prophetes, and to annoynte the most holy one. ²⁵ Vnderstande this then, and marcke it well, that from the tyme it shalbe concluded, to go and repayre Ierusalem againe, vnto Christ (or the annointed) prince: there shalbe seuen weakes. Then shal the stretes and walles be buylded again .lxij. weakes, but wyth harde troublous time.

⁴ And the Lorde sayde vnto him: call his name Iesraell, for I wyll shortly auenge the bloude of Iesrael, vpon the house of Iehu, and wyll brynge the kingedome of the house of Israel to an ende.

⁶ She conceyued yet again, and bare a doughter. And he sayde vnto him: Call her name Loruhamah (that is, not obtayninge mercy) for I wyl haue no pyte vpon the house of Israell, but forget them, and put them cleane oute of remembraunce.

⁹ Then sayd he: cal his name Lo amy. For why? ye are not my people, therfore wyll I not be youres.

⁴ Thus the children of Israell shall syt a great whyle without king and Prince, withoute offeringe and aulter, without prest and reuelacion. ⁵ But afterwarde shall the children of Israell conuerte, and seke the Lorde their God: and Dauid their kinge: & in the latter dayes, they shall worshyppe the Lorde, and hys louynge kindnesse.

⁵ Therfore stomblest thou in the day tyme & the prophet wt the in the night. I wil bringe thy mother to silence, & why?

⁷ The more they increased in the multitude, the more they sinned against me, therfore will I chaunge their honoure into shame.

¹² Therfore wyl I be vnto Ephraim as a moth and to the house of Iuda as a caterpyller. ¹³ When Ephraim saw his syckenesse, and Iuda hys dysease: Ephraim wente vnto Assur, and sent vnto kinge Iareb: yet coulde not he helpe you, nor ease you of youre payne. ¹⁴ I am vnto Ephraim as a lyon, and as a lyons whelpe to the house of Iuda. Euen I, I wyll spoyle them, and go my way. I will take them with me, & no man shall rescue them. ¹⁵ I wyll go, and returne to my place, tyll they waxe faynt and seke my.

¹⁰ and the pryd of Israell is caste doune before their fare, yet wil they not turne to the Lord their God, nor seke him for all this.

¹⁶ They turne them selues, but not a right, and are becomen as a broken bowe. Their pryntes shal be slaine with the swerde, for the malyce of their tunges, such blasphemies haue they learned in the lande of Egipte.

⁸ Israel shal peryshe, the Gentyles shall intreate him as a foule vessel.

⁸ Ephraim hath made him selfe a watchman of my God, a prophet that is become a snare to do hurte in euery strete and abhomynacyon in the house of his God.

¹¹ Ephraim flyeth lyke a byrde, so shall their glory also. In so muche, that they shall neyther beget, conceyue nor beare children. ¹² And though they bring vp any yet wyll I make them chyldelesse among men. Yea, wo shall come to them, when I departe from them. ¹³ Ephraim (as me thyncke) is planted in welthynesse, lyke as Tirus, but nowe must she bring her owne children forth to the manslayer. ¹⁴ O Lorde thou shalt geue them: what shalte thou geue them? geue them an vnfrutefull wombe and drye brestes. ¹⁵ All their wyckednesse is done at Galgal, there do I abhorre them. For the vngracyousnes of their owne inuencyons. I will driue them oute of my house. I will loue them no more, for all their princes are vnfaythfull. ¹⁶ Ephraim is hewen doune, their rote is dryed vp, so that they shal brynge no more frute: yea and thoughe they brynge forth any, yet will I slaye euen the best beloued frute of their body. ¹⁷ My god shal cast them awaye, for they haue not bene obedient vnto hym, therefore shal they go astray amonge the Heathen.

¹⁵ Euen so shall it go with you (O Bethel) because of youre malicious wickednes. Lyke as the morninge goeth awaye, so shall the kinge of Israel passe.

³ Therfore they shalbe as the morning cloud, & as the dew that early passeth away, & lyke as dust that the wynde taketh awaye from the floure, and as smoke that goeth oute of the chymney.

² a darcke daye, a gloomynge daye, a cloudye daye, yea & a stormy daye, lyke as the mornynge spredeth oute vpon the hylles: Namely, a great and myghtye people; suche as haue not bene sence the begynnynge, neither shal be after them for euer more.

⁵ They skyppe vp vpon the hylles, as it were the sounde of charettes, as the flamme of fyre that consumeth the strawe, and as a myghtye people ready to the battell.

²⁰ Agayne, as for hym of the Norh, I shal dryue hym farre from you: & shute him out into a drye and waste lande, hys face towarde the east sea, and hys hynder partes towarde the vtmost sea. The styncke of hym shall go vp, and his fylthy corrupcyon shall fal vpon himselfe, because he hath dealte so proudelye.

¹⁴ so that the swifte shall not escape, nether the strong be able to do anye thynge: no, the gyaunt shal not saue hys owne lyfe. ¹⁵ The archer shal not abyde, and the swyfte of fote shall not escape. The horsman shal not saue hys lyfe ¹⁶ & he that is as manlye of stomacke as a gyaunte, shall in that day be fayne to runne hys waye naked, sayeth the Lorde.

¹² Thus sayeth the Lorde lyke as an hyrdeman taketh two legges or a pece of an eare oute of the lions mouth: Euen so the chyldren of Israel (that dwell in Samaria, hauynge theyr couches in the corner, and theyr beddes at Damascus) shalbe plucte awaye.

² The vyrgyn Israel shall fal, and neuer ryse vp agayne: she shalbe cast donne vpon her owne grounde, and no man shall helpe her vp. ³ For thus sayth the Lorde God: Where as there dwelt a .M. in one citie there shalbe lefte scarce an hundreth therein: & where there dwelt an .C. there shal scarce ten be left for the house of Israel.

⁸ The Lorde maketh the seuen starres and the Dryons, he turneth the nighte into daye, and of the daye he maketh darcknesse. He calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them oute vpon the playne grounde: the Lorde is hys name:

¹⁸ Wo be vnto them that desyre the daye of the Lorde, Wherfore wold ye haue it? As for the daye of the Lorde, it shal be darcke and not cleare:

¹¹ Beholde, the Lorde is mynded to smyte the greate houses, so that they shall decaye: & the lytle houses, that they shall cleue a sunder.

⁴ Agayne the Lorde shewed me thys vysyon: beholde, the Lorde God called the fyre to punish withal, and it deuoured the greate depe: yea it consumed a parte already.

⁸ And the Lorde sayd vnto me: Amos, what seyst thou? I aunswered: a masons trowel. Then sayde the Lorde: Beholde, I wyl laye the trowel among my people of Israel, and wyll no more ouerse them: ⁹ but the hye hylchapels of Isaac must be layed waste, and the churches of Israell made desolate: and as for the house of Ieroboam, I wyl stand vp agaynst with the swerd.

¹⁷ Wherfore thus sayeth the Lord: Thy wyfe shalbe defyled in the cytye, thy sonnes and daughters shall be slayne with the swearde, & thy lande shalbe measured out with the lyne. Thou thy selfe shalt dye in an vnclene lande, & Israel shalbe dryuen out of hys owne countre.

They shall not fle awaye, there shall not one of them escape, ner be delyuered. ² Though they were buryed in the hell, my hande shall fetch them from thence: though they clymme vp to heauen, yet shall I cast them downe: ³ though they hyde them selues vpon the toppe of Carmell, yet shall I seke them out, and brynge them from thence: Though they crepe downe from my syght into the depe of the sea, I shall commaunde the serpente, euen there to byte them. ⁴ If they goo awaye before their enemyes in to captyuite, then shall I commaunde the swerde, there to slayue them. Thus wyll I sett myne eyes vpon them, for their harme, & not for their wealth. ⁵ For when the Lorde God of hoostes toucheth a lande, it consumeth awaye, and all they that dwell therin, muste nedes mourne: And why? theyr destruccyon shall aryse as euery streame and runne ouer them, as the floude in Egipte. ⁶ He that hath hys dwellynge in heauen, & groundeth hys tabernacle in the earth: He that calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out vpon the playne grounde: hys name is the Lorde. ⁷ O ye chyldren of Israell, are ye not vnto me, euen as the Moryans, sayeth the Lorde? haue not I brought Israell out of the land of Egypte, the Philystues from Capthor, and the Sirians from Cyr? ⁸ Beholde, the eyes of the Lorde are vpon the realme that synneth, to rote it clene out of the earth: Neuertheles, I wyll not vtterly destroye the house of Iacob, sayeth the Lorde. ⁹ For lo thys I promyse: though I syfte the house of Israell amonge all nacyons (like as they vse to lyfte in a syue) yet shall not the smallest grauell stone fall vpon the earth:

¹ Thys is the worde of the Lord that came vnto Micheas the Morastite, in the dayes of Iothan, Ahas & Iehezekiah kinges of Iuda: which was shewed hym vpon Samaria & Ierusalem. ² Heare all ye people, marcke thys well O earth, and all that therin is: Yee the Lorde God hym selfe be wytnesse amonge you, euen the Lord from hys holy temple. ³ For why? beholde, the Lord shal go oute of his place, & come downe & treade vpon the hye thynges of the earth. ⁴ The mountaynes shall consume vnder hym, and the valleyes shall cleue asunder, lyke as wax consumeth at the fyre, & as the waters runne downwarde. ⁵ And all this shall be for the wyckednesse of Iacob, and the synnes of the house of Israell. But what is the wyckednesse of Iacob? Is not Samaria? Whiche are the hye places of Iuda? Is not Ierusalem? ⁶ Therfore I shall make Samaria an heape of stones in the felde, to laye aboute the vineyarde: her stones shall I cast in to the valley, & discouer her foundacions.

We shall brynge vp seuen shepherdes and .viij. prynces vpon them:

² There is not a godlye man vpon earth, there is not one ryghtuous amonge men. They laboure al to shed bloud, and euery man hunteth his brother to death:

⁸ O thou enemye of myne, reioyce not at my fal, for I shal get vp agayne: and thoughe I syt in my darckenesse, yet the Lorde is my lyght. ⁹ I wyl beare the punyshment of the Lorde (for why? I haue offended hym) tyll he sit in iudgement vpon my cause, and se that I haue ryghte. He wyll brynge me forth to the lyght, & I shall se hys ryghtuousnesse.

⁶ Who maye endure before his wrath? Or who is able to abyde hys gryme displeasure? His anger taketh on lyke fyre, and the harde rockes burst in sunder before hym.

¹⁰ For lyke as the thornes that sticke together, and as the drye strawe, so shall the dronckardes be consumed together, euen when they be full.

⁶ But dyd not my wordes and statutes (which I commaunded by my seruauntes the prophetes) touche your forefathers? Vpon this, they gaue aunswere and sayde: lyke as the Lord of hostes deuysed to do vnto vs, accordynge to oure owne wayes & ymagynacyons, euen so hath he dealte wyth vs.

¹¹ At the same tyme there shall manye Heathen cleue to the Lorde, and shall be my people. Thus wyll I dwell in the myddest of the, & thou shalte knowe, that the Lorde of hostes hathe sente me vnto the.

I answered: I se a flyinge boke of .xx. cubytes longe, and ten cubytes broade. ³ Then sayd he vnto me: This is the cursse that goeth forth ouer the whole earth: for all theues shal be iudged after this boke, & all swearers shalbe iudged accordynge to the same, ⁴ I wyl bring it forth (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) so that it shall come to the house of the these, and to the house of hym, that falselye sweareth by my name, and shall remayne in hys house, and consume it, with the timbre & stones thereof.

¹² and speake vnto hym: Thus sayth the Lorde of hostes: Behold the man whose name is the braunche: and he that shall sprynge vp after hym, shall buylde vp the temple of the Lorde, ¹³ yea euen he shall buylde vp the temple of the Lord. He shall beare the prayse, he shal syt vpon the Lordes trone, and haue the domynacyon. A Priest shall be also vpon hys trone, & a peaceable councell shalbe betwixte them both.

²³ Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: In that tyme shal ten men (out of al maner of languages of the Gentiles) take one Iew by the hemme of his garment, and saye: we wyl go with you, for we haue hearde, that God is amonge you.

⁹ Reioyce thou greatly, O doughter Syon, be glad, O doughter Ierusalem. For lo, thy king commeth vnto the, euen the ryghteous & Sauioure: Lowly and simple is he, he rydeth vpon an asse, & vpon the foale of an asse. ¹⁰ I wil rote out the charrettes from Ephraim, & the horse from Ierusalem, the battel bowes shalbe destroyed. He shall geue the doctryne of peace vnto the heathen, & his dominion shal be from the one syde to the other, and from the flundes to the endes of the worlde.

¹⁷ O how prosperous & goodlye a thinge shall that be? The corne shall make the yong men chearefull, and the newe wyne the maydens.

⁸ I wil blow for them & gather them together, for I wil redeme them. They shal increase as they increased afore.

⁴ & though Edom sayd: wel, we are destroyed, we wyll go buylde vp agayne the places that be wasted: yet (sayeth the Lord of hostes) what they buylded, that brake I domie, so that is was called a cursed lande, and a people, whom the Lorde hath euer bene angrye withall.

⁹ Therfore wil I also make you to be despised, and to be of no reputacion among al the people, because ye haue not kepte my wayes, but bene parcial in the lawe.

² But who may abyde the day of hys commyng? Who shalbe able to endure, when he appeareth? For he is lyke a goldsmythes fire and lyke a wasshers sope. ³ He shall syt hym doune to trye and to clense the syluer, he shall pourge the children of Leui, & puryfye them lyke as golde and syluer: that they may bring meatofferinges vnto the Lorde in righteousnes.

¹³ Ye speake harde wordes agaynst me, sayeth the Lorde. And yet ye saye: What haue we spoken agaynst the?

¹ For marck, the day commeth, that shall burne as an ouen: and al the proude, yea and al such as do wickednesse, shalbe straw: and the daye that is for to come, shall burne them vp (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) so that it shall leaue them neyther rote nor braunche.

²³ Bholde a mayde shall be wyth chylde, and shal bringe forth a sonne, and they shall call hys name Emanuell, whyche is by interpretation, God wyth vs.

¹¹ I baptise you in water in token of repentaunce, but he that cometh after me is mightyer then I, whose shues I am not worthy to beare. He shal baptise you with the holy ghost and with fyre:

¹⁵ Beware of false Prophetes, whiche come to you in shepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauenynge wolues.

²⁷ All thinges are geuen vnto me of my father. And no man knoweth the sonne but the father: neyther knoweth anye man the father, saue the sonne, and he to whom the sonne wyl open hym.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye say well, when ye your selues are euil? For of the aboundaunce of the herte, the mouth speaketh.

⁴⁹ So shall it be at the ende of the worlde. The aungels shall come out, and seuer the bad from the good, ⁵⁰ and shall caste them into a furnayce of the fyre: there shalbe waylyng and gnashyng of teth.

¹⁴ Let them alone, thei be the blynde leaders of the blynd. If the blynd leede the blynde, both shall fall into the dytche.

³ and in the mornynge ye saye: to daye shalbe foule wedder, & that because the skie is cloudy and redde. O ye hypocrites ye can discerne the fashion of the skie and can ye not discerne the signes of the times

¹⁶ Wo be vnto you blynde guydes, whyche say whosoeuer sweare by the temple, it is nothing, but whosoeuer sweared by the golde of the temple: he offendeth. ¹⁷ Ye fooles and blind, whither is greater, the golde, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whosoeuer sweareth by the aultare, it is nothynge: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offeryng that lyeth on the aulter, offendeth. ¹⁹ Ye fooles and blynde, whither is greater the offerynge, or the aulter whiche sanctifieth the offeryng? ²⁰ Whosoeuer therfore sweareth by the aultare, sweareth by it and by all that thereon is. ²¹ And whosoeuer sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it and by hym that dwelleth therin. ²² And he that sweareth by heauen sweareth by the seate of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, which tythe mynte, anyse and commen, and leaue the wayghtyer matters of the lawe vndone: iudgement, mercy, and faythe. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue lefte the other vndone. ²⁴ Ye blynde guydes whiche strayne out a gnat, and swallowe a cammell. ²⁵ Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also. ²⁷ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines. ²⁸ So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie. ²⁹ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites, ye buylde the tombes of the Prophetes and garnysh the sepulchres of the righteouse, ³⁰ and saye: if we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we woulde not haue bene parteners with them in the bloude of the Prophetes. ³¹ So then ye be witnesses to your selues, that ye are the chyldren of them whyche kylled the Prophetes. ³² Fulfil ye likewyse the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpentes and generacion of vppers howe shoulde ye scape the damnacion of hell? ³⁴ Wherfore, behold I send vnto you Prophetes, wise men, & Scribes. Of them ye shal kyl and crucifye: and of them ye shall scourge in your synagoges, and persecute from citye to citye ³⁵ that vpon you may come all the ryghtuous bloude that was shede vpon the earth, from the bloude of ryghtuous Abel, vnto the bloude of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whom ye slewe betwene the tempel and the aulter. ³⁶ Verely I say vnto you, al these things shall lyght vpon this generation.

¹⁰ And then shall manye be offended, and shal betray one another, and shall hate one the other.

²⁴ For there shall aryse false Christes, and false prophetes, and shall do great myracles and wonders. In so much that if it were possyble the very electe should be deceiued.

³⁵ Heauen & earth shal perishe, but my wordes shal abide.

⁴¹ Then shall the kinge saye vnto them that shalbe on the lyfte hande. Departe from me ye cursed, into euerlastinge fyre, which is prepared for the deuyll and hys angels.

It is better for the, to enter into lyfe maymed, then hauing two handes, go into hel, into fyre that neuer shal be quenched, ⁴⁴ where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁵ Likekewise if thy fote offende the, cut him of. For it is better for the to go halt into life, then hauinge two fete to be caste into hell, into fyre that neuer shalbe quenched: ⁴⁶ where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁷ Euen so if thyne eye offende the, plucke him out. It is better for the to go into the kyngedome of God with one eye, then hauing two eies to be cast into hel fyre: ⁴⁸ where their worm dieth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁹ Euery man therfore shalbe salted wyth fyre. And euery sacrifice shalbe seasoned with salt, ⁵⁰ Salt is good. But if the salt be vnsauery what shall ye sate therwith? Se that ye haue salt in your selues, & haue peace amonge your selues, one with another.

³² He shalbe greate, and shalbe called the sonne of the hiest. And the Lorde God shal geue to hym the seat of his father Dauid, ³³ and he shall raigne ouer the house of Iacob for euer, & of his kingdome shall be no ende.

³⁵ And the aungell aunswered and sayd vnto her: The holye ghoste shall come vnto the, and the power of the hyest shall ouer shadowe the. Therfore also that holye thynge whiche shall be borne shalbe called the sonne of God.

⁷⁸ Through the tender mercye of our God, wherby the daye sprynge from on hye hath vysyted vs. ⁷⁹ To geue lyght to them that sate in darcknes & in shadowe of death, and to guyde oure fete into the waye of peace.

¹¹ for vnto you is borne this day in the citye of Dauid, a sauioure whiche is Christe the Lorde.

¹⁴ Glory to God on hye, and peace on the earth: and vnto men reioysynge.

³² A lyght to lighten the gentils and the glorye of thy people Israel.

¹⁶ For God so loueth the worlde, that he hath geuen his only sonne, that none that beleue in him, should perishe: but should haue euerlastinge lyfe. ¹⁷ For God sent not his sonne into the world, to condempne the worlde: but that the world through him, might be saued.

¹² Then spake Iesus agayne vnto them, saiynge. I am the lyghte of the worlde. He that foloweth me, shall not walke in darkenes: but shall haue the lyghte of lyfe.

³⁵ Then Iesus sayed vnto them: yet a lyttell whyle is the lyght with you. Walke, whyle ye haue lyght, lest the darcknes come on you. He that walketh in the darcke, woteth not whether he goeth.

⁴⁶ I am come a lyght into the worlde, that whosoeuer beleueth on me, shoulde not byde in darknes.

²⁷ Peace I leaue with you, my peace I geue vnto you. Not as the worlde geueth, geue I vnto you. Let not your hertes be greued, neyther feare ye.

³ And there appeared vnto them clouen tounges, lyke as they had bene fyre, and it sate vpon eche of them,

¹⁹ And I wyll shewe wounders in heauen aboue, and tokens in the earth beneth, bloude & fyre, and the vapoure of smoke. ²⁰ The sonne shalbe turned into darckenes, and the mone into bloude, before that greate and notable day of the Lorde come.

⁸ And ther was greate ioye in the citye.

³⁶ Ye knowe the preachinge that God sent vnto the chyldren of Israel, preachynge peace by Iesus Christe, whiche is Lorde ouer all thinges.

²⁸ Take hede therfore vnto youre selues, and to all the flocke wherof the holy ghoste hath made you ouersears, to rule the congregacyon of God, which he hath purchased wt hys bloude.

For we know that tribulation bryngeth pacience, ⁴ pacience bringeth experience, experience bringeth hope. ⁵ And hope maketh not ashamed, for the loue of God is sheed abroade in our hertes by the holye ghost, which he is geuen vnto vs. ⁶ For when we were yet weake accordyng to the tyme: Christ died for vs whiche were vngodly. ⁷ Yet scrace will anye man dye for a ryghtuouse man. Parauenture for a good man durst a man dye. ⁸ But God setteth out his loue that he hath to vs, seing that whil we wer yet sinners, Christ died for vs. ⁹ Much more then now (seing we are iustified in hys bloud) shall we be saued from wrath thorowe hym. ¹⁰ For yf when we were enemyes, we were reconciled to God by the death of hys sonne muche more, seynge we are reconciled, we shall be preserued by his lyfe.

³² whyche spared not his owne sonne but gaue hym for vs all: how shall he not wyth hym geue vs all thynges also?

⁵ whose also are the fathers & they of whom (as concerninge the flesh) Christe came, whiche is God ouer al thynges blessed for euer. Amen.

³⁰ And vnto him partaine ye in Christe Iesus, whiche of God is made to vs wysdome, and also rightuousnes, and sanctifiynge and redemption.

²⁴ Then commeth the ende when he hath delyuered vp the kyngedome to God the father, when he hath put doune all rule, authoritie, and power. ²⁵ For he muste reigne tyll he haue put all hys enemies vnder his fete.

¹⁹ For God was in Christe, and made agrement betwene the worlde and hym selfe, and imputed not theyr synnes vnto them, & hathe committed to vs the preachynge of the atonnement.

¹³ For these false Apostles are disceytfull workers, and fashyon them selues lyke vnto the Apostles of Christe. ¹⁴ And no maruail for Satan hym selfe is chaunged into the fashyon of an angell of lyghte. ¹⁵ Therfore it is no greate thynge, thoughe hys mynysters fashyon them selues as thoughe they were the mynisters of rightuousnes, whose end shalbe accordynge to theyr dedes.

⁸ Neuerthelesse thoughe we oure selues, or an Angell from heauen, preache any other Gospell vnto you then that whiche we haue preached vnto you, holde hym as accurssed. ⁹ As I haue sayed before, so saye I nowe agayne, yf anye man preache any other thynge vnto you, then that you haue receyued, holde hym accursed.

²¹ aboue all rule, power, and myghte, and domynyon, and aboue all names that are named, not in thys worlde onely, but also in the worlde to come, ²² and hath put all thynges, vnder hys fete, and hath made hym aboue all thynges the heade of the congregacyon,

¹⁴ For he is our peace, whiche had made of both one, and hath broken doune the wall that was a stop betwene vs, ¹⁵ and hath also put awaye thorowe hys fleshe the cause of hatred (that is to saye, the lawe of commaundementes contayned in the lawe written) for to make of twayne one newe man in hym selfe, so makinge peace: ¹⁶ and to reconcile both vnto God in one body thorowe his crosse, and slew hatered therby: ¹⁷ and came and preached peace to you, whiche were a farre of, and to them that were nygh. ¹⁸ For thorowe hym we both haue an open waye in, in one spyrite vnto the father.

⁸ Ye were ones darckenes, but are nowe lyghte in the Lorde. Walke as chyldren of lyghte.

¹³ but all thinges, when they are rebuked of the lyghte are manifeste. For what soeuer is manifeste, that same is lyght. ¹⁴ Wherfore he sayth: awake thou that slepest, and stand vp from death, and Christ shall geue the lyght.

²⁰ and by hym to reconcile all thinge vnto him selfe, and to set at peace by him thorowe the bloude of his crosse, both thinges in heauen, and thinges in earth. ²¹ And you (which were in tymes past straungers and enemyes, because your myndes were set in euyl workes) hath he now reconciled

³ in whom are hyd al the treasures of wysdom and knowledge.

⁸ in flammynge fyre, rendrynge vengeaunce vnto them that knowe not God, and to them that obeye not vnto the Gospel of our Lorde Iesus Christ,

⁹ euen hym whose commynge is by the workynge of Sathan, with all liynge power, signes and wonders: ¹⁰ and in all deceyuablenes of vnryghtuousnes, amonge them that peryshe: because they receyued not the loue of the truethe, that they myght haue bene sayed. ¹¹ And therfore God shall sende them stronge delusyon, that they shoulde beleue lyes: ¹² that all they myghte be damned which beleued not the trueth but had pleasure in vnryghtuousnes.

¹⁶ And wythout naye greate is that mysterye of godlynes: God was shewed in the fleshe, was iustified in the spirite, was sene of aungels, was preached vnto the gentils, was beleued on in earth and receyued vp in glory.

² preache the word, be feruent, be it in season or out of season. Improue, rebuke, exhorte, wyth all long suffering and doctryne. ³ For the tyme wyll come, when they wyll not suffer wholsome doctryne: but after theyr owne lustes shall they (whose eares ytch) get them an heape of teachers,

¹³ lokynge for that blessed hope and gloryous apperyng of the myghtye God, and of oure sauyoure Iesu Christe,

⁸ But vnto the sonne he sayeth: God thy seate shall be for euer and euer. The cepter of thy kyngdome is a ryghte ceptre.

¹³ And again: I wil put my truste in him. And agayne: beholde here am I and the chyldren, which God hath geuen me. ¹⁴ For as muche then as the children were partetakers of fleshe and bloude, he also him selfe lyke wyse toke part wyth them, for to put doune thorowe death, that is to saye the deuyll,

⁸ But that ground which beareth thornes and bryars, is reproued, and is nye vnto curssynge: whose ende is to be burned.

² to whom also Abraham gaue tythes of all thynges) fyrste is by interpretacyon kynge of ryghtuousnes: after that he is kynge of Salem that is to saye, kynge of peace, ³ wythoute father, wythout mother, wythout kynne, & hath neyther begynnyng of hys tyme, neyther yet ende of hys lyfe: but is lykened vnto the sonne of God, and contynueth a prieste for euer.

⁷ And no man denyeth but that whiche is lesse, receyueth blessyng of that which is greater.

²⁰ The God of peace that brought agayne from death oure Lorde Iesus, the great shepe herde of the shepe, thorowe the bloude of the euerlastynge testament,

⁸ whome ye haue not sene, and yet loue hym, in whome euen nowe, thoughe ye se hym not, yet do you beleue: and reioyce with ioye vnspeakeable and gloryous:

⁹ But ye are a chosen generacyon, a royall priesthode, an holye nacyon and a peculyar people that ye shoulde shewe the vertues of hym that called you oute of darkenes into his marueylous lyght,

⁵ Lykewyse ye yonger submit youre selues vnto the elder. Submit youre selues euerye man, one to another, knyt youre selues together in lowlines of mynde. For God resisteth the proude & geueth grace to humble.

¹ There were false prophetes among the people, euen as there shalbe false teachers amonge you, which priuilie shal bringe in damnable sectes, euen denyenge the Lorde that hath bought them and bringe vpon them selues swyft dampnacion, ² and many shal folowe theyr damnable wayes, by whiche the way of trueth shalbe euyl spoken of, ³ and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you, whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not. ⁴ For yf God spared not the aungels that sinned but cast them downe into hell, and deliuered them into chayns of darckenes, to be kept vnto iudgement,

⁵ And this is the tydinges that we haue heard of him, and declare vnto you, that God is lyghte and in him is no darckenes at al, ⁶ yf we saye that we haue felowshippe with him, and yet walke in darckenes, we lye, and do not the trueth, ⁷ but and yf we walke (in light) euen as he is in lighte, then haue we felowshyppe wyth hym, and the bloude of Iesus Christe his sonne clenseth vs from all sinne.

¹ Ye beloued, beleue not euery spirite, but proue the spirites whether they be of God, or not, for manye false prophetes are gone out into the world.

¹⁰ Herin is loue, not that we loued God, but that he loued vs, & sente his sonne to make agrement for our synnes. ¹¹ Beloued yf God so loued vs we oughte also to loue one another. ¹² No man hath sene God at anyetime. Yf we loue one another, god dwelleth in vs, and his loue is perfect in vs. ¹³ Hereby knowe we that we dwel in him, and he in vs, because he hath geuen vs of his spyrite. ¹⁴ And we haue sene and do testifye, that the father sent the sonne, whyche is the sauyour of the world.

²⁰ We know, that the sonne of God is come, & hath geuen vs a minde to know him which is true, & we are in him, that is true thorowe his sonne Iesus Christ. This same is verye God, and eternal lyfe.

¹¹ And the smoke of their tormente ascendeth vp euermore. And they haue no rest daye nor night, which worship the beaste & his ymage, and whosoeuer receiueth the prynt of hys name.

⁸ Therfore shal her plages come at one daye, death, and sorowe, and honger, and she shalbe brente wyth fyre, for stronge is the Lorde God, whiche iudgeth her.

¹⁰ & shal stand a farre of, for feare of her punishmente, saying: Alas, Alas, that great citie Babilon, that myghty cytie. For at one houre is her iudgemente come.

¹⁷ for at one hour so great riches is come to nought. And euery shyp gouerner, & al they that occupied shippes, & shipmen which worke in the sea, stode a farre of

¹¹ And I sawe heauen open, & beholde a whyt horsse: and he that sate vpon hym was faythful and true, & in rightuousnes dyd he iudge & make battayl.

¹⁶ And hath on hys vesture & on hys thighe a name wrytten: king of kinges, & Lord of Lordes,

²⁰ And the beast was taken, & with hym that false prophete that wrought miracles before him with which he deceyued them that receiued the beastes marke, & them that worshipped his Image These both were cast into a ponde of fyre burnyng with brimstone:
