²¹ Yf he do not thys, he stombleth & suffereth hunger. And yf he suffre hunger, he is out of pacience, and blasphemeth hys kynge and his God. Then loketh he vpwarde, and dounewarde to the earthe,

²⁸ Thou shalt not rayle vpon the goddes, nether cursse the ruler of thy people.

³³ The frute of thy lande and all thy laboures shall a nacion which thou knowest not, eate, and thou shalt but suffre vyolence only & be oppressed alwaye: ³⁴ that thou shalt be cleane besyde thy selfe for the syghte of thyne eyes which thou shalt se.

⁵³ And thou shalt eate the frute of thyne owne body: the flesh of thi sonnes and of thy daughters whych the Lorde thy God hath geuen the, in that straytenesse & seyge wherwith thine enemye shal besyege the, ⁵⁴ so that it shal greue the man that is tender and exceadynge delycate amonge you, to loke on hys brother and vpon his wyfe that lyeth in hys bosome, & on the remnaunte of his chyldren which he hath yet lefte, ⁵⁵ for feare of geuynge vnto any of them of the flesh of his children, which he eateth, because he hath noughte lefte him in that straytenes and seyge wherwyth thyne enemyes shall besyege the in all thy cyties. ⁵⁶ Yea, and the woman that is so tender & delycate among you that she dare not aduenture to sett the sole of her foote vpon the grounde for softnesse and tendernesse, shalbe greued to loke on the husbande that lyeth in her bosome and on her sonne & on her daughter: ⁵⁷ euen because of the after byrthe, that is come out from betwene her legges, & because of her chyldren which she hath borne, because she wolde eate them for nede of all thynges secretly, in the straytenes & seyge wherwyth thyne enemye shal besyege the in thy cyties.

³³ And whyle he yet talked wyth them. Beholde the messenger was come vnto hym. And he sayd: behold thys euyll is of the Lorde, what more shall we loke for of the Lorde.

³ And the nynthe daye of the fourthe monethe of that yeare, there was so great hongre in the cytye, that there was no sustinaunce for the people of the lande.

³ Folyshuesse maketh a man to go out of his waye, and then is his hert vnpacient agaynst the Lorde.

⁷ Beholde, the Lorde shall brynge mightye and greate floudes of water vpon them: namely the kinge of the Assirians with all his power. Whyche shall poure oute his furiousnesse vpon euery man, and runne ouer all their banckes. ⁸ And shall breake in vpon Iuda, increasyng in power, tyll he get him by the throte. He shal fyl also the wydenesse of thy lande with hys broade wynges, O Emanuell.

²⁰ Yf a man do turne him to the ryght hande, he shall famishe, or to the lefte hande to eate, he shall not haue ynough. Euery man shall eate the fleshe of his owne arme.

¹⁸ For yf I go in to the felde, lo, it lyeth all full of slayne men. If I come in to the cytye, lo, they be all fameshed of honger. Yee their prophetes also and prestes shall be led in to an vnknowne lande.

⁶ And in the fourth Moneth, the .ix. daye of the Moneth, there was so greate honger in the cytye, that there were no more vytayles for the people of the lande.

⁴ Daleth. The tonges of the suckyng chyldren, cleue to the rofe of their mouthes for very thyrste. The yonge chyldren aske bred, but there is noman, that geueth it them. ⁵ He. They that were wonte to fayre delicatly, peryshe in the streates: they that a fore were brought vp in purple, make now moche of donge.

⁹ Teth. They that be slayne with the swearde, are happier then soch as dye of honger, and perishe awaye famyshyng for the fruites of the felde. ¹⁰ Iod. The wemen (which of nature are pitieful) haue sodden their owne children with their handes that they might be their meate, in the miserable destruccion of the daughter of my people.

²⁰ And the remnaunt of the men which were not kylled by these plages, repented not of the dedes of their handes, that they should not worship deuyls, and Images of gold, and syluer, and brasse, and stone, and of wood, whych neyther can se, neyther heare, neyther go. ²¹ Also they repented not of theyr murther, and of theyr sorcery, neyther of their fornicacion, neither of their thefte.

⁹ And the men raged in great heate, & spake euyl of the name of God which hath power ouer those plages, & they repented not, to geue him glory. ¹⁰ And the fyfte angel poured out his vial vpon the seate of the beast, & his kingdome waxed darcke, & they gnew their tounges for sorowe, ¹¹ & blasphemed the God of heauen for sorowe and payne of their sores, and repented not of theyr dedes.
