Isaiah 14 Cross References - Matthew

1 Bvt the Lorde wylbe mercyfull vnto Iacob, and wil take vp Israel agayne, and set them in their owne lande. Straungers shall cleaue vnto them, and get them to the house of Iacob. 2 They shall take the people, and cary them home with them. And the house of Israell shall haue them in possession for seruauntes and maydens in the lande of the Lorde. They shall take those presonners, whose captyues they had bene afore, and rule those that had oppressed them. 3 When the lord now shall bringe the to rest, from the trauail, feare, and harde boundage that thou wast laden wyth all, 4 then shalte thou vse thys mockage vpon the Kynge of Babylon, and saye: Howe happeneth it, that the oppressoure leaueth of? Is the goulden trybute come to an ende? 5 Douteles the Lorde hathe broken the staffe of the vngodlye, and the scepter of the lordly. 6 Whyche when he is wrothe, smyteth the people with durable strokes, and in his wonders he persecuteth them, and tameth them continually. 7 And therfore the whole worlde is now at reste and quyetnesse, and men sing for ioye. 8 Yea, euen the Fyrre trees and Cedres of Libanus reioyse at thy fall, sayinge: Nowe that thou arte laide doune, there come no mo vp to destroye vs. 9 Hell also trembleth at thy commynge, all myghtye men, and Prynces of the earth, steppe forth before the. All Kynges of the earth stande vp from their seates, 10 that they may all (one after another) synge & speake vnto the. Art thou wounded also as we? art thou become lyke vnto vs? 11 Thy pompe and thy pryde is gone doune to hell. Mothes shalbe layde vnder the, and wormes shalbe thy coueringe. 12 How art thou fallen from heauen (O Lucifer) thou faire mornyng childe? hast thou gotten a fal euen to the ground, thou that (not withstanding) diddest subdue the people. 13 And yet thou thoughtest in thyne herte: I wyll climme vp into heauen, and make my seate aboue the starres of God, I wyl syt vpon the glorious mounte toward the North, 14 I wyll climme vp aboue the cloudes, and wylbe like the hyghest of all. 15 Yet darre I saye, that thou shalt be brought doune to the depe of hel. 16 They that se the, shal narowly loke vpon the, and thinke in them selues, sayenge: Is thys the man, that brought all landes in feare, and made the kyngedomes afrayde. 17 Is this he that made the worlde in a maner waste, and layde the cytyes to the grounde, whyche let not his prisoners go home? 18 How happeneth it, that the kynges of all people lye, euery one at home in his owne palace, with worshyppe, 19 and thou art cast oute of thy graue, like a wild braunch: like as dead mens raiment that are shot thorow wyth the swerde: as they that go doune to the stones of the depe, as a deade coarse that is troden vnder fete: 20 and art not buryed with them? Euen because that thou hast wasted thy lande, and destroyed thy people. For the generacion of the wycked shalbe wythoute honoure foreuer. 21 There shall a way be sought to destroye their chyldren, for their fathers wyckednes: they shall not come vp agayne to possesse the lande, and fyll the worlde ful of castels and townes. 22 I will stande vp against them (sayeth the Lorde of Hostes) and rote out the name & generacyon of Babylon (sayeth the Lorde) 23 and wyll geue it to the Oiters, and wyl make water podles of it. And I wyll swepe them oute with the besome of destruccyon, sayeth the Lorde of Hostes. 24 The Lorde of Hostes hathe sworne an othe, sayinge: It shal come to passe as I haue determyned: and shalbe fulfylled as I haue deuysed. 25 The Assyryans shalbe destroyed in my lande, and vpon my mountaynes wyll I treade them vnder fote. Where thorow hys yock shall come from you, & hys burthen shalbe taken from youre shoulders. 26 This deuyce hath God taken thorowe the whole worlde, and thus is hys hand stretched out ouer al people. 27 For yf the Lorde of Hostes determen a thynge, who wyl dysanulle it? And yf he stretch forth hys hande, who wil holde it in agayne? 28 The same yeare that kynge Ahaz dyed, God threatened by Esay on thys maner: 29 Reioyse not (thou whole Palestina) as thoughe the road of him that beateth the were broken: for out of the serpentes rote, there shall waxe a kockatrice, & the frute shalbe a fyrie worme. 30 But the poore shall fede of the best thynges, and the simple shal dwel in safety. Thy rotes wil I destroye with hunger, and it shall slay thy remnaunt. 31 Mourne ye portes, wepe ye cities, and feare thou (O whole Palestina) for there shall come from the North a smoke, whose power noman may abyde. 32 Who shall then maynteyne the messages of the Gentyles? But the Lorde stablisheth Sion, and the poore of my people shall put their truste in hym.

Then gaue I thanckes vnto the hyghest. I magnifyed and praysed hym that lyueth for euermore, whose power endureth alwaye, and his kingdome from one generacion to another: 35 in comparison of whom al they that dwel vpon the earth, are to be reputed as nothinge. They shalbe geuen vnder his power, vntill a time, two tymes, and half a tyme.

Amos 1:6-8

6 Thus saith the Lord: For thre and foure wyckednesses of Gaza, I wyll not spare her: because they make the presoners yet more captyue, & haue driue them into the lande of Edom. 7 Therfore wyl I send a fyre into the walles of Gaza, whiche shall deuoure her houses. 8 I wyl rote out them the dwel at Asood & hym the holdeth the scepter of Ascalon, and stretche oute myne hande ouer Accaron, that the remnaunte of the Phylystines shal peryshe sayth the Lorde.

Habakkuk 1:2-10

2 O lord how long shal I crye, and thou wilt not heare? How long shal I complayn vnto the, sufferynge wrong, & thou wilte not helpe? 3 Why lettest thou me se weerynesse and laboure? Tyranny & vyolence are before me, power ouergoeth righte: 4 for the lawe is toarne in peces, and there can no ryghte iudgemente go forthe. And why? the vngodly is more set by then the rightuous: this is the cause, that wronge iudgemente procedeth. 5 Beholde, amonge the Heathen, & loke well: wondre at it, and be abashed: for I wyll do a thynge in youre tyme, whiche thoughe it be tolde you, ye shall not beleue. 6 For lo, I wyll rase vp the Caldees, that bitter and swifte people: whiche shall go as wyde as the land is, to take possessyon of dwellyng places, that be not theyr owne. 7 A grymme and boysteours people is it, these shall sit in iudgement, and punish. 8 Their horses are swifter then the cattes of the mountayne, & byte sorer then the wolues in the euenynge. Theyr horsmen come by greate heapes from farre, they fle hastely to deuour as the Aegle. 9 They come all to spoyle: oute of them commeth an easte wynde, whiche bloweth and gathereth theyr captyues, lyke as the sande. 10 They shall mocke the kynges, and laughe the princes to scorne. They shal not set by any stronge holde, for they shall laye ordynaunce agaynst it, and take it.

Habakkuk 2:6-12

6 But shall not all these take vp a prouerbe agaynst hym, & mocke hym with a byworde & saye: Wo vnto hym that heapeth vp other mens goodes? Howe longe wyll he lade hym selfe with thicke claye? 7 O howe sodenly wyll they stand vp that shall byte, and awake, that shal teare the in peces? yea, thou shalt be their praye. 8 Seynge thou hast spoyled many Heathen, therfore shall the remuaunte of the people spoyle the: because of mens bloude, and for the wronge done in the lande, in the cytye and vnto all them that dwell therein. 9 Wo vnto hym, that couetouslye gathereth euyll gotten goodes into hys house: that he maye set hys neste an hye, to escape from the power of mysfortune. 10 Thou hast deuysed the shame of thyne owne house, for thou haste slayne to muche people, and hast wylfully offended, 11 so that the very stones of the wall shall crye oute of it, and the tymbre that lyeth betwixte the ioyntes of the buyldynge shal aunswere. 12 Wo vnto hym, that buyldeth the towne wyth bloude, & maintaineth the citie wyth vnryghtuousnes.

Habakkuk 2:17

17 For the wronge that thou hast done in Lybanus, shall ouerwhelme the, and the wylde beastes shal make the afrayd: because of mens bloude, and for the wronge done in the lande, in the cytye, and vnto all such as dwell therein.

Zephaniah 2:4-7

O Canaan thou lande of the Phylistines, I wyl destroy the, so that there shall no man dwel in the any more: 6 and as for the sea coast, it shall be hyrdemens cotages & shepe foldes: 7 yea it shalbe a porcyon for suche as remayne of the house of Iuda, to fede there vpon. In the houses of Ascalon shall they reste towarde nyght: for the Lorde theyr God shal vpset them, & turne awaye theyr captyuyte.

Zephaniah 2:13-14

13 yea, he shall stretche oute his hande ouer the north, and destroye Assur. As for Niniue, he shall make it desolate, drye and waste. 14 The flockes & all the beastes of the people shall lye in the middeste of it, pellicanes & storckes shall abyde in the vpperpostes of it, soules shall synge in the wyndowes, & rauens shall syt vpon the balckes, for the borders of Cedre shal be ryuen doune.

Zephaniah 2:14

14 The flockes & all the beastes of the people shall lye in the middeste of it, pellicanes & storckes shall abyde in the vpperpostes of it, soules shall synge in the wyndowes, & rauens shall syt vpon the balckes, for the borders of Cedre shal be ryuen doune. 15 Thys is the proude and carelesse cytye, that sayde in her herte: I am, and there is els none. O how is she made so wast that the beastes lye therein? Who so goeth by mocketh her, and poynteth at her wyth hys fynger.

Zephaniah 3:6-8

6 Therfore wyll I rote out thys people, and destroye theyr towres: yea, and make theyr stretes so voyd, that no man shal go therin. Theyr cytyes shalbe broken doune, so that no bodye shall be lefte, nor dwell there anye more. 7 I sayde vnto them: O feare me, and be contente to be refourmed. That theyr dwellynge shulde not be destroyed, and that there shulde happen vnto them none of these thynges, wherewyth I shall vyset them. But neuertheles they stande vp earlye, to folowe the fylthynes of theyr owne ymagynacions. 8 Therfore ye shall wayte vpon me (sayeth the Lord) vntil the tyme that I stand vp: for I am determed, to gather the people & to bring the kingedoms together, that I may poure oute myne anger, yea, al my wrothfull displeasure vpon them. For all the worlde shalbe consumed wyth the fyre of my gelousy.

Zephaniah 3:11

11 In that tyme shalte thou no more be confounded, because of all thy ymagynacyons, where thorow thou haddest offended me: for I wyll take awaye the proude boasters of thyne honoure from the, so that thou shalte no more tryumphe because of my holy hyll. 12 In the also will I leaue a small poore simple people, which shal trust in the name of the Lorde.

Zechariah 1:17

17 Crye also, and speake: thus sayeth the lorde of hostes: My cytyes shalbe in good prosperyte agayne, the Lorde shall yet comfort Sion, and chose Ierusalem.

11 At the same tyme there shall manye Heathen cleue to the Lorde, and shall be my people. Thus wyll I dwell in the myddest of the, & thou shalte knowe, that the Lorde of hostes hathe sente me vnto the. 12 The Lorde shall haue Iuda in possessyon for hys parte in the holye grounde, and shall chose Ierusalem yet agayne.

Zechariah 9:5-7

5 This shall Ascalon se, & be afraied. Gaza shalbe very sory, so shal Accaron also, because her hope is come to confusyon. For the Kinge of Gaza shal peryshe, and at Ascalon shal no man dwel. 6 Straungers shal dwel at Asdod, & as for the pryde of the Philistines, I shal rote out 7 Their bloud wil I take away from their mouth and their abhominacyons from among their teeth Thus they shalbe left for our God, yea they shalbe as a prince in Iuda, & Accaron like as Iebusy:

7 I my self fedde the slaughter shepe (a pore flocke verely) & toke vnto me two staues: the one I called louinge mekenesse, the other I called wo, & so I kepte the shepe.

For it is better for the to go halt into life, then hauinge two fete to be caste into hell, into fyre that neuer shalbe quenched: 46 where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. 47 Euen so if thyne eye offende the, plucke him out.
