¹¹ Ephraim was vnto me, as a cowe that is vsed to go to plowe, therfore I loued him, & fel vpon his fayre neck, I droue Ephraim, Iuda plowed, and Iacob played the husbande man,

⁴ Thou shalt not mosell the oxe that treadeth out the corne.

⁵ Wherfore the Lorde his God delyuered hym into the hand of the kynge of the Siriens: which bet hym & caryed awaye a great multitude of his captiue in to Damascon. ²⁴ Goeth not the housbande man euer in due season earnestlye to hys lande: he moweth and ploweth hys grounde to sowe.

¹¹ because ye were so chearfull and glad, to treade doune myne heritage, and fulfylled youre pleasures, as the calues in the grasse: and triumphed ouer them lyke the bulles, when ye had gotten the victory.

⁵ Their mother hath broken their wedlocke, and she that bare them, is come to confusyon. For she sayd: I will go after my louers, that geue me my water and bread, my woll and flax, my oyle and my drincke.

¹ Then sayde the Lorde to me: Go yet thy waye, & vowe an aduouterous woman, whom thy neyghboure loueth, as the Lord doeth the children of Israell: how be it they haue respecte to straunge Goddes, and loue the wine kannes.

¹⁶ For Israel is gone backe like a wanton cow The Lord therfore shall make her fede, as the lambe that goeth astray.

¹ Do not thou tryumphe, O Israel, make no boastinge more then the Heathen, for thou hast committed aduoutrye againste thy God: straung rewardes hast thou loued more then al the corneflores.

⁴ I led them with coardes of frendshyppe, and bandes of loue. I was euen he, that layed the yocke vpon their neckes. I gaue them my foder my self,

¹⁸ For they that are such, serue not the Lorde Iesus Christ: but theyr owne bellyes, and with swete preachynges & flatterynge wordes deceyue the hertes of the innocentes.
