¹ Then thought Dauid in his hert: I maye peryshe one daye or other by the handes of Israell. There is no better for me, then to flee into the lande of the Philistines, that Saul of very dispaire to finde me, may cease to seke me any more in all the coastes of Israhel: for so I maye escape his hande.

³ the worshipful of fyftye yeare olde, and the honorable: the Senatours, and men of vnderstandyng: the maisters of craftes and oratours. ⁴ And I shal geue you chyldren to be youre prynces (sayeth the Lord) & babes shall haue the rule of you. ⁵ One shall euer be doynge vyolence & wronge to another. The boye shall presume agaynste the elder, and the vyle persone agaynst the honorable.

¹³ Therfore commeth my folcke also in captyuite, because they haue no vnderstandynge. Theyr glory shalbe mixte with hunger and theyr pryde shalbe marred for thyrste.

⁸ Who hath deuysed suche thinges vpon Tirus the croune of al cities, whose marchauntes and captaines were the highest & principal of the world? ⁹ Euen the Lord of Hostes hath deuysed it, that he may put doune al pompe, & minish al the glory of the worlde.

These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue lefte the other vndone. ²⁴ Ye blynde guydes whiche strayne out a gnat, and swallowe a cammell. ²⁵ Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also. ²⁷ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines. ²⁸ So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie. ²⁹ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites, ye buylde the tombes of the Prophetes and garnysh the sepulchres of the righteouse, ³⁰ and saye: if we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we woulde not haue bene parteners with them in the bloude of the Prophetes. ³¹ So then ye be witnesses to your selues, that ye are the chyldren of them whyche kylled the Prophetes. ³² Fulfil ye likewyse the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpentes and generacion of vppers howe shoulde ye scape the damnacion of hell? ³⁴ Wherfore, behold I send vnto you Prophetes, wise men, & Scribes. Of them ye shal kyl and crucifye: and of them ye shall scourge in your synagoges, and persecute from citye to citye ³⁵ that vpon you may come all the ryghtuous bloude that was shede vpon the earth, from the bloude of ryghtuous Abel, vnto the bloude of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whom ye slewe betwene the tempel and the aulter. ³⁶ Verely I say vnto you, al these things shall lyght vpon this generation. ³⁷ Ierusalem, Ierusalem which killest prophetes, and stone them which are sent to the: howe often would I haue gathered thy children together: as the henne gathered her chikens vnder her winges, but ye would not. ³⁸ Beholde your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate. ³⁹ For I saye to you, ye shall not se me hence forth tyll that ye saye blessed is he that commeth in the name of the Lorde.
