⁶ Then said Rahel. God hath gyuen sentence on my syde, & hath also heard my voyce, and hath geuen me a sonne. Therefore called she him Dan.

³² And Lea conceaued & bare a sonne, & called eys name Ruben, for she sayd: the Lorde hath loked vpon my tribulation. And nowe my husband wyll loue me. ³³ And she conceaued agayne & bare a sonne, and sayd: the Lorde hath hearde that I am despysed, & hath therfore geuen me thys Sonne also, & she called hym Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceaued yet, and bare a sonne and sayed: now thys once wyll my husbande kepe me companye, bycause I haue borne him thre sonnes: and therfore she called hys name Leui. ³⁵ And she conceyued yet agayne, and bare a sonne sayinge: nowe wyll I prayse the Lorde: therfore she called hys name Iuda, and left bearyng.

¹⁶ Dan shall iudge his people, as one of the trybes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan shalbe a serpent in the way, and an edder in the path, & byte the horsse heles, so that hys ryder shal fal bacward.

²² And vnto Dan he sayed. Dan is a lyons whelpe, he shal flowe from Basan.

²⁴ Iudge me, O lorde my God, accordynge to thy righteousnesse, that they triumphe not ouer me.

¹ Geue sentence vpon me (O God) and defende my cause agaynst the vnholy people: Oh delyuer me from the dysceatefull, and wycked man.

² Then I got me a breche, accordynge to the commaundement of the Lorde, and put it about my loynes.

²⁴ Therfore will I scatre you, lyke as the stobble that is taken awaye with the south wynde.

¹⁴ And I wyll brynge you with youre enemyes in to a lande, that ye knowe not: for the fyre that is kyndled in my indignacyon, shall burne you vp. ¹⁵ O Lorde (sayde I then) thou knowest all thinges, therfore remembre me, & vyset me, delyuer me fro my persecuters: Recyeue not my cause in thy longe wrath, yet thou knowest, that for thy sake I suffre rebuke. ¹⁶ When I had found thy wordes, I ate them vp gredely: they haue made my herte ioyfull & glad. For I call vpon thy name, O Lorde God of Hostes. ¹⁷ I dwell not amonge the scorners, nether is my delyte therin: but I dwell only in the feare of thy hand, for thou hast fylled me with bytternes. ¹⁸ Shall my heuynes endure for euer? Are my plages then so greate, that they maye neuer be healed? Wilt thou be as a water, that falleth, and can not continue? ¹⁹ Vpon these wordes, thus sayde the Lorde vnto me: If thou wylt turne agayne, I shall set the in my seruyce: and yf thou wylt take out the thynge that is precious from the vile, thou shalt be euen as myne owne mouth. They shall conuerte vnto the, but turne not thou vnto them: ²⁰ & so shall I make the a stronge wall of stele agaynst this people. They shall fyght agaynst the, but they shall not preuayle. For I my selfe will be with the, to helpe the, and delyuer the, sayeth the Lorde.
