¹⁴ Nowe the damsell to whome I saye, stoupe doune thy pytcher, and let me drinck. If she saye: Dryncke, and I wyll geue thy camels dryncke also, the same is she that thou hast ordened for thy seruaunte Isaac: yea and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master.

⁸ And he sayed: Lord God, wherby shall I knowe that I shall possesse it?

⁴⁴ and she say agayne to me: dryncke thou, and I wyll also draw water for thy camels: that same is the wyfe whom the Lord hath prepared for my maisters sonne.

And he put his hande into hys bosome agayne, and plucked it oute his bosome, & behold, it was turned agayne as his other flesh. ⁸ If they wyl not beleue the neither hear the voyce of the firste token: yet wyll they beleue the voyce of the second token. ⁹ But and if they wyll not beleue the two sygnes, neyther herken vnto thy voyce, then take of the water of the riuer and poure it vpon the dry land. And the water which thou takest out of the ryuer shall turne to bloude vpon the drye land.

¹⁷ And he answered him, yf I haue found grace in thy syght, then shew me a sygne, that thou art the Lorde that talketh with me.

³⁷ Beholde I wyll put a flece of wolle in the threasshing place. And yf the dewe be on the flece onelye, and drye vpon al the earth beside then I shalbe sure that thou wilt saue Israell by my hande, as thou saydest.

¹³ And when Gedeon was come: Behold, there was a man that tolde a dreame vnto hys felowe & sayde: Beholde I dreamed a dreame, and me thoughte that a broyled looffe of barley bread tombled into the hoste of Madian, and came vnto a tente & smote it that it fell, and ouerturned it, that the tente laye a longe. ¹⁴ And his felowe aunswered, & sayde, thys is nothynge elles saue the swerde of Gedeon the sonne of Ioas a man of Israel, into whose hande the Lord hath delyuered Madian & all the hoste. ¹⁵ When Gedeon hearde the tellynge of the dreame & the interpretacyon of the same, he bowed hym selfe to the earth & returned vnto the hoste of Israel, and sayde: vp for the Lord hath delyuered into youre handes the hoste of the Madianites.

⁵ And they sayd vnto him: Aske of God I praye the, that we maye know, whether the way which we go, shalbe prosperous or no.

⁷ Now therfore make a newe carte and take two mealche kyne, on whose neck neuer came yocke. And there shalt thou mete thre men goynge to God to Bethel: one cariyng thre kyddes: and another caryenge thre loues of bread: and the thyrd caryeng a botell of wine. ⁴ And they wyll salute the and geue the two loues of bread: which thou shalt receyue of theyr handes. ⁵ After that thou shalt come to the hyll of God, where the Philistines kepe theyr watche. And when thou art come thyther to that cytye, thou shalt mete a companye of Prophetes comyng doune from the hyll, with a psalter, a tymbrell, a pype, and an harp before them & they prophesying. ⁶ And the spyryte of the Lord wyll come vpon the, and thou shalt prophesye with them, and shalt be turned into another man. ⁷ And when these sygnes are chaunced the, then do what thou hast to do, for God is wyth the. ⁸ And thou shalt also go before me to Galgall. And beholde I wyl come vnto the, to sacrifye burnt sacrifice & peace offerynges. Tary for me seuen dayes, tyll I come to the, & shew the what thou shalt do. ⁹ And assone as he had turned his shoulder to go from Samuel, god gaue hym another maner of herte, and all those tokens came to passe that same day. ¹⁰ When thei came to the hyll, beholde, the company of prophetes met him, & the sprite of God came vpon him, & he prophesyed among them.

⁸ Then sayde Ionathas: behold, when we go ouer vnto the men, & shewe oure selues vnto them: ⁹ yf they say on thys wyse to vs: tarye vntyl we come to you, then we wyl stand styl where we be & not go vp vnto them. ¹⁰ But & yf they so saye vnto vs: come vp vnto vs, then we wyl go vp, for the Lorde hath deliuered them into oure handes. And thys shalbe a sygne vnto vs.

⁷ And yf thy father saye thus: it is well done, then thy seruaunt shall haue peace. But and yf he be angrye: then be sure that wickednesse is vtterly concluded of him.

²⁴ And when thou hearest the noyse of a thyng goyng in the toppes of the Peretrees, then moue. For then the Lord is gone out before the, to smyte the host of the Philistines.

⁹ And Ioab sayde to Amasa: are all thynges in rest and peace my brother? And Ioab toke Amasa by the chynne wyth the ryghthande, as thoughe he woulde haue kyssed hym.

⁸ Then sayde Hezekiah to Isaiah: what is the signe, that the Lorde will heale my, & that I shall go vp into the house of the Lorde the thyrd daye? ⁹ And Isaiah saide: this sygne shalt thou haue of the Lorde, that the Lorde wil do that he hath spoken: shal the shadowe go forwarde ten degrees, or go backe agayne ten degrees? ¹⁰ And Hezekiah saide: it is a lyght thynge for the shadowe to go doune ten degrees. Therfore I will not that: but let the shadowe go backewarde ten degrees. ¹¹ And Isaiah the Prophete called to the Lorde, and he brought the shadowe ten degrees backewarde, by whyche it had gone doune, in the dyal of Ahaz.

¹⁴ House & ryches maye a man haue by the heritage of hys elders, but a discrete woman is the gifte of the Lord.

¹¹ requyre a token of the Lorde thy God, whether it be towarde the depthe benethe or towarde the heyght aboue.

¹⁰ besechinge that at one tyme or other, a prosperous iorneye (by the wyll of God) myghte fortune me, to come vnto you.
