³ At the same tyme came to them Thathanai the captayne on thys syde the water, and Starbuzanai, and their councelers, & sayde thus vnto them. Who hath commaunded you to buylde this house, and to make vp the walles therof?

³ Whosoeuer now amonge you is of hys people, the Lord his God be with him, & let him go vp to Ierusalem in Iuda, and buylde the house of the Lorde God of Israell. He is the God that is at Ierusalem.

¹² Be it knowne vnto the kynge, that the Iewes are come vp from the to vs vnto Ierusalem a cytye sedycyous and frowarde, and buylde the same, and laye the foundacyon of the walles therof, and repaire them.

⁶ This is the copy of the letter that Thathanai the captayne on this syde the water, and Stharbuzanai, and their counselers of Apharsach (which were on thys side the water) sent vnto king Darius.

⁹ We asked therfore the Elders and sayde vnto them: Who hath commaunded you to buylde thys house and to make vp the walles therof?

⁶ Get you farre from them therfore, thou Thathanai captayne beyond the water, & Stharbuzanai, & youre councelers whiche are beyonde the water, get ye awaye from them.

¹³ Then Thathanai the captayne beyond the water, and Stharbuzanai with their counselers (to whom king Darius had sent) dyd theyr diligence.

²¹ I kynge Arthaxerses haue commaunded al the treasures beyond the water, that loke whatsoeuer Esdras the pryeste and scrybe in the lawe of the God of heauen requyreth of you, that ye fulfyll the same dylygently,

⁷ and sayde vnto the kynge: yf it please the kynge, let hym geue me letters to the capptaynes beyond the water, that they may conueye me ouer, tyll I come into Iuda: ⁸ & letters vnto Asaph the Lord of the kynges wood that he may geue me wood for beames to the gates of the palace, which are hard on the house and harde on the walles of the citie, and for the house that I shall entre into. And the kynge gaue me accordynge to the good hand of God vpon me: ⁹ And when I came to the captaynes beyond the water, I gaue them the kynges letters. And the kyng sent captaynes and horsmen with me.

²³ And when he was come into the temple, the chiefe Priestes and the elders of that people came vnto hym as he was teachynge, and sayde. By what auctoritie doest thou these thynges and who gaue the thys power?

⁷ and set them before them, & axed: by what power or in what name haue ye done this syrs?
