³⁹ I will geue the ouer into their power, that shal breake doune thy stewes, and destroye thy brodel houses, they shall stryppe the oute of thy clothes, al thy fayre and beutyfull Iewels shall they take from the, and so let the syt naked and bare:

¹⁶ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde: Seynge the doughters of Sion are become so proude, and come in with stretched oute neckes, and with vayne wanton eyes: seynge they come in tryppynge so nycely with their fete: ¹⁷ Therfore shall the Lorde shaue the heades of the doughters of Syon, and make theyr bewtye bare in that daye. ¹⁸ In that daye shall the Lord take awaye the gorgyousnes of theyr apparel & spanges, chaynes, parlaftes, ¹⁹ and colares, bracelettes & hooues, ²⁰ the goodly floured wide & broderd rayment, brusshes & headebandes, ²¹ rynges and garlandes, ²² holye daye clothes & vales, kerchues & pynnes, ²³ glasses & smockes, bonettes and taches. ²⁴ And in steade of good smell there shalbe styncke amonge them. And for theyr gyrdles there shalbe louse bandes. And for well set hearre there shalbe baldnesse. In steade of a stomacker, a sackclothe, and for theyr bewtye wytherydnesse & sunneburninge.

⁹ And therfor shall the iniquite of Iacob be thus reconcyled. And so shall he take away all the frute of hys sinnes. As for aulter stones, he shall make them all as stones beaten to poulder: the groues & Idols shall not stande.

²² My face wyll I turne from them, my treasury shalbe defiled: for the theues shall go in to it, and suspende it. ²³ I wyll make clene ryddaunse, for the land is whole defiled with vnrightuous iudgement of innocent bloud & the citie is full of abhomynacyons. ²⁴ Wherfore, I wyll brynge the most cruell tyrauntes from amonge the Heathen, to take theyr houses in possession. I wil make the pompe of the proude to ceasse, and they shall take in theyr sanctuary.

¹⁰ I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Tarus lether: I gyrthed the about with whyte sylcke, I clothed the with kerchues, ¹¹ I decked the wyth costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, ¹² spanges vpon thy fore head, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, and set a beutyfull croune vpon thyne heade. ¹³ Thus waste thou deckte with syluer & golde, and thy rayment was of fyne whyte sylke, of nedle worke & of dyuerse colours. Thou dyddest eate nothynge but symnels, hony and oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutiful, yea euen a very Quene wast thou: ¹⁴ In so muche, that thy beutye was spoken of amonge the Heythen, for thou waste excellent in my beuty, which I put vpon the, sayeth the Lorde God. ¹⁵ But thou haste put confidence in thyne owne beutye, & played the harlot, when thou haddest gotten the a name. Thou haste commytted whordome, wyth all that wente by the, & hast fulfilled theyr desyres: ¹⁶ yea thou hast taken thy garmentes of dyuerse colours, & deckte thyne aulters therwith, where vpon thou myghtest fulfyll thyne whoredome, of suche a fashyon, as neuer was done, nor shalbe. ¹⁷ The goodly ornamentes & Iewels whiche I gaue the of myne owne golde and syluer, hast thou taken, and made the mens ymages thereof, and commytted whordome with al. ¹⁸ Thy garmentes of dyuerse coloures haste thou taken, and deckte them ther wyth: myne oyle and incense hast thou set before them. ¹⁹ My meate whiche I gaue the, as symnels, oyle & honye (to fede the withall) that haste thou set before them, for a swete sauoure. And thys came also to passe, saieth the Lord God. ²⁰ Thou haste taken thyne owne sonnes & doughters, whom thou hast begotten vnto me, and these haste thou offered vp vnto them, to be theyr meate. Is this but a smal whordome of thine (thinckest thou)

²⁴ thou hast buylded thy stewes and brodel houses in euery place: yea at the heade of euery stret ²⁵ hast thou builded the an aulter. Thou hast made thy beuty to be abhorred, thou hast laied out thy legges to euery one that came by, and multiplyed thine whoredom.

³¹ buyldinge thy stewes at the head of euerye strete, and thy brodell houses in all places? Thou hast not ben as another whore that maketh boost of her winninge,

²⁶ They shall stripe the oute of thy clothes, and cary the costly Iewels away with them.

²⁹ whiche shall deale cruellye with the: Al thy laboure shall they take with them, and leaue the naked & bare, & thus the shame of thy filthy whordome shal come to light.

³ Yf no I shal strype her naked and sette her, euen as she came into the worlde: yea, I shall lay her waste, and make her like a wildernesse, and slay her for thirst.

⁹ Wherfore now will I go take my corne & wine againe in their season, and set agayne my woll and my flax, whyche I gaue her, to couer her shame. ¹⁰ And nowe will I discouer her folyshenesse, euen in the syghte of her louers, and no man shal deliuer her oute of my handes. ¹¹ Moreouer, I wil take awaye all her myrthe, her holye dayes, her newmones, her Sabbothes, and all her solempne feastes? ¹² I wil destroy her vyneyardes and figge trees, though she sayeth: lo, here are my rewardes that my louers haue geuen me. I wyll make it a woode, and the wilde beastes shall eate it vp. ¹³ I will punysh her also for the dayes of Baal, wherin she censed him, deckinge hym with her earynges and cheynes: when she folowed her louers, and forgat me, sayeth the Lorde.
