¹ In the .xxiij. yeare of Iehoas sonne of Ohoziah king of Iuda. Iehoahaz the sonne of Iehu was made kyng ouer Israel in Samaria, & continued .xvij. year ² And he wrought wickednesse in the syghte of the Lorde: for he folowed the synne of Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat whiche made Israell synne, & departed not there from. ³ Wherfore the Lorde was angrye with Israel, and delyuered them into the hande of Hazael kynge of Syrya, and into the hande of Benhadad the sonne of Hazael all theyr dayes. ⁴ But Iehoahaz besought the Lorde, and the Lorde heard hym. For he had sene the oppressyon of Israel, how the kynge of Siria oppressed them. ⁵ And therfore the Lorde gaue Israel a delyuerer, & they went oute from vnder the handes of the Syryans. And the chyldren of Israel dwelt in their tentes as before time. ⁶ Neuerthelesse they departed not from the synne of the house of Ieroboam which made Israel sinne but walked therein. And there remayned a groue also in Samaria styll: ⁷ But there were left of the people to Iehoahaz, but fyfty horsmen and ten charettes, & ten thousand fotemen, for the kynge of Syrya had destroyed them and made them lyke threshed chaffe. ⁸ The rest of the actes of Iehoahaz, & al he dyd & his powre are wrytten in the chronicles of the kynges of Israel. ⁹ And Iehoahaz rested wyth hys fathers, & they buryed hym in Samaria, & Ioas hys sonne raygned in hys steade. ¹⁰ In the .xxxvij. yeare of Iehoas kynge of Iuda, began Ioas the sonne of Iehoahaz to raygne ouer Israell in Samaria, & continued .xvi. yeare, ¹¹ & dyd vnhappelye in the syghte of the Lorde, & departed in nothynge from the synnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat that made Israell synne, but walcked therein. ¹² The remnaunt of the actes of Ioas & al he dyd, and his power, how he fought wt Amaziah Kynge of Iuda, are wrytten in the chronicle boke of the kynges of Israel. ¹³ And when Ioas was layde to rest with his fathers, Ieroboam sat vpon his seate. And Ioas was buryed in Samaria amonge the Kynges of Israel. ¹⁴ When Eliseus was fallen sicke of the sicknesse whereof he dyed, Ioas kynge of Israell came to him, and wepte to him, & sayde: O father father the charet of Israel & the horsmen of the same. ¹⁵ And Eliseus sayde vnto him, brynge bowe and arowes. ¹⁶ And he brought to hym bowe & arowes. And he sayd to the king of Israel: put thyne hande vpon the bowe, & when he had put hys hande vpon the bowe, Elizeus put hys handes vpon the kinges handes. ¹⁷ Then he sayde: open a wyndowe Eastwarde, & he opened. And Eliseus sayde: shote & he shote. And he sayde: the arowe of helpe of the Lorde, and the arowe of helpe agaynst the Syryans, for thou shalt bete the Syryans in Aphek tyll thou haue consumed them. ¹⁸ Then he sayde: take arowes: and he toke Then he sayde to the kyng of Israel: smyte the grounde, and he smote thryse & ceased. ¹⁹ And the man of God was angrye with him, and sayde: thou shuldest haue smyten fyue or syxe tymes, and then thou haddest smytten the Syryans tyl thou haddest consumed them: wher now thou shalt bete them but thryse. ²⁰ When Eliseus was dead, and buryed, the soudyars of the Moabites came into the lande, the yeare folowyng. ²¹ And it chaunged as they were buryeng a man, that they spyed the soudyars, and therfore caste the man into the sepulchre of Elizeus. And as sone as the man came, and touched the bones of Elizeus, he reuyued, and stode vp on hys fete. ²² And Hazael oppressed Israel, all the dayes of Iehoahaz. ²³ But the Lorde had mercye on them & pytyed them, & turned to them, because of hys appoyntment made with Abraham, Isaac & Iacob, & wolde not destroye them, ether caste them from hym as yet. ²⁴ And when Hazael king of Syrya was dead, Benhadad his sonne raigned in hys steade. ²⁵ And then Ioas the sonne of Iehoahaz went agayne, & toke oute of the hand of Benhadad sonne of Hazael, the cytyes which he had taken awaye oute of the handes of Iehoahaz hys father, with warre. And thre tymes dyd Ioas beate hym, and brought the cytyes of Israel agayne.

³ And the Lorde sayde: My spirite shall not alway striue wyth man, for they are flesh. Neuerthelesse I wyl geue them yet space, an .C. & .xx. yeres.

¹⁶ And I wyll make thy sede, as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can numbre the duste of the earth, then shall thy sede also be numbred. ¹⁷ Aryse, and walke about all the Lande, in the length of it, and in the bredth, for I wil giue it vnto them.

² And I wyl make my bonde betwene the and me, & wyll mutyplye the excedyngly. ³ And Abram fell on hys face. And God talked moreouer wyth hym sayinge: ⁴ I am, beholde my testament is wt the, that thou shalt be a father of many nacions. ⁵ Therfore, shalt thou no more be called Abram, but thy name shalbe Abraham: for a father of many nacions haue I made the,

⁷ Moreouer I wyl make my bonde betwene me & the, and thy seed after the, in their times to be an euerlastyng testament, So that I wyl be god vnto the & to thy seed after the. ⁸ And I wyl geue vnto the and to thy seed after the, the lande where in thou arte a straunger: Euen all the lande of Canaan, for an euerlastynge possession & wyl be their God.

¹⁷ And God herde the voice of the chyld. And the angel of god called Hagar out of heauen and sayd vnto her: What ayleth the Hagar? Feare not, for god hath herde the voyce of the chyld where he lyeth.

⁴² And excepte the God of my father, the God of Abraham, & the God whome Isaac feareth, had bene wyth me: surely thou haddest sent me away now al empty. But God beheld my tribulation, and the labour of my handes: and rebuked the yesterdaye.

¹ After these deades, tydynges were brought vnto Ioseph, that his father was sycke. And he toke with him his two sonnes, Manasses & Ephraim.

²⁴ and yet hys bowe bode fast, & his armes & hys handes were strong, by the handes of the mightye god of Iacob: out of hym shall come an herde man, a stone in Israel.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel thy seruauntes, to whom thou sworest by thyne owne selfe & saidest vnto them. I wyll multiplye youre seed as the starres of heauen, and all thys lande which I haue sayd, I wyll geue vnto youre seede: and they shal enheret it for euer ¹⁴ And the Lord refrained him selfe from the euil whych he sayed he wold do vnto his people.

¹⁹ And he sayd: I wyl make al my good god before the, and I wyl be called in thys name Iehouah before the, & wil shew mercy to whom I shewe mercy, and wyll haue compassion on whom I haue compassion.

⁶ And when the Lord walked before him, he cried: Lord Lord God full of compassion and mercy, which are not lightly angry but abundaunt in mercy and truth, ⁷ and kepest mercye in store for thousandes, & forgeueste wyckednes, trespace, and synne (for there is no man innocent before the) and vysitest the wyckednes of the father vpon the chyldren and vpon chyldrens chyldren, euen vnto the thyrd and fourth generation.

¹⁶ And Moses sought for the goote that was the synne offeryng, and se it was burnt. And he was angry wyth Eliazar & Ithamar the sonnes of Aaron, whyche were lefte a lyue saying:

¹⁷ And I wyll sette my face agaynst you & ye shall fal before youre enemyes, & they that hate you shall raygne ouer you, and ye shall flee when no man foloweth you.

⁴² And I wyl remembre my bond with Iacob, and my testament wyth Isaac, and my testament wyth Abraham, and wyll thynke on the lande.

¹⁵ And Moses waxed very angry and sayd vnto the Lord. Turne not vnto their offeringes, I haue not taken so much as an asse from them, neyther haue vexed any of them.

⁷ And the people came to Moses and sayed: we haue sinned, for we haue spoken agayust the Lord and againste the, make intercession to the lorde, that he take away the serpentes from vs. And Moses made intercession for the people.

²⁴ For the Lorde thy God is a consuming fyre, and a gelouse God. ²⁵ If after thou haste gotten chyldren and chyldrens chyldren & hast dwelt long in the lande, ye shall marre your selues and make grauen ymages after the likenes of whatsoeuer it be, and shall worke wyckednes in the syght of the Lord thy God, to prouoke him. ²⁶ I cal heauen and earth to recorde vnto you thys day, that ye shal shortely perishe from of the lande whither ye go ouer Iordan to possesse it: ye shal not prolong your daies therin but shal shortly be destroyed. ²⁷ And the Lorde shal scatter you among nations, & ye shalbe left fewe in numbre among the people whyther the lord shal bryng you,

⁵ But thus ye shall deale wyth them: ouerthrow theyr alters, breake downe theyr pyllers cut downe their groues and burne their ymages wyth fyre.

⁴ And thys is the cause of the slayer that shal flee thither and be saued:

²⁵ And the Lorde shall plage the before thyne enmyes: Thou shalt come out one waye agaynste them, and flee seuen wayes before them, & shalt be scatered amonge al the kingdomes of the erth.

And he let God goo that made him & despised the rocke that saued him. ¹⁶ They angred him with straunge Goddes, and with abhominations prouoked him, ¹⁷ They offered vnto felde deuils and not to God, & to Gods whych they knewe not, & to newe Gods that came newly vp which theyr fathers feared not. ¹⁸ Of the rocke that begate the, thou arte vnmyndfull & hast forgote God that made the.

³⁶ For the Lorde wyll do iustice vnto hys people, & haue compassion on hys seruauntes For it shalbe sene that theyr power shall fayle, & at the last they shalbe prisoned & forsaken.

¹⁴ Wherfore the Lorde waxed angry with Israel, & delyuered them into the handes of raueners to spoyle them, and solde them into the handes of theyr enemyes rounde about them, so that they had no power any longer to stande before theyr enemyes.

⁸ Therfore the Lorde was angrye wyth Israel, and deliuered them into the handes of Chusan Rasathaim Kynge of Mesopotamia. So that the chyldren of Israel serued Chusan Rasathaim .viij. yeares.

¹² And then the children of Israel went to agayne, & commytted wyckednesse in the syght of the Lorde. And then the Lord hardened Eglon the Kyng of the Moabytes, agaynst the chyldren of Israel, because they had committed wyckednesse before the Lorde.

³ For when Israel had sowen, then came the Madianites the Amalechites, & they of the east contreye vpon them & pitched their tentes agaynste them ⁴ & destroyed the encrease of the earth euen vnto Azah, & left no sustinaunce in Israel, neyther shepe, oxe or asse, ⁵ for they came wyth theyr cattell & housholdes euen as greshopers in multitude: so that both they & also theyr camels were wythoute nombre. And they entrede the land to destroy it. ⁶ And so was Israel excedyngly impoueresshed by the Madianites & cryed vnto the Lord.

Then he went doune wt Pharah his ladde euen harde vnto the men of armes that were in the hoste. ¹² And the Madianites, the Amalekites, and all they of the east, laye a long in the valeye, lyke vnto greshopers in multitude & theyr camelles were wythout nombre, euen as the sande by the sea syde in multitude. ¹³ And when Gedeon was come: Behold, there was a man that tolde a dreame vnto hys felowe & sayde: Beholde I dreamed a dreame, and me thoughte that a broyled looffe of barley bread tombled into the hoste of Madian, and came vnto a tente & smote it that it fell, and ouerturned it, that the tente laye a longe. ¹⁴ And his felowe aunswered, & sayde, thys is nothynge elles saue the swerde of Gedeon the sonne of Ioas a man of Israel, into whose hande the Lord hath delyuered Madian & all the hoste. ¹⁵ When Gedeon hearde the tellynge of the dreame & the interpretacyon of the same, he bowed hym selfe to the earth & returned vnto the hoste of Israel, and sayde: vp for the Lord hath delyuered into youre handes the hoste of the Madianites. ¹⁶ And he deuyded the thre hundred men into thre companyes, & gaue euerye man a trompet in hys hand, wyth an emptye pitcher & lampes therin, ¹⁷ and sayd vnto them: loke on me & do lykewyse: & beholde, when I come to the syde of the hoste, euen as I do, so do you. ¹⁸ And when I blow wyth a trompet and all that are wyth me, blowe ye with trompettes also on euerye syde the hoste and saye: here be the Lorde and Gedeon. ¹⁹ And so Gedeon & the thre hundred men that were wyth hym, came vnto the syde of the host in the begynnynge of the myddell watche, & reysed vp the watche men. And they blewe wt their trompettes & brake the pytchers that were in theyr handes. ²⁰ And all thre companyes blew wt trompettes & brake the pitchers, & held the lampes in theyr left handes, & the trompettes in their right, to blowe wyth all. And they cryed the swerd of the Lord & of Gedeon.

⁷ And the Lord was wroth wyth Israell, & solde them into the handes of the Philistines, and into the handes of the chyldren of Ammon: ⁸ which pyld & oppressed the chyldren of Israel in those dayes .xviij. yeare, all that were on the other syde Iordan in the lande of the Amorytes in Galaad. ⁹ Moreouer the chyldren of Ammon went ouer Iordan to fyghte agaynste Iuda, Beniamin, and the house of Ephraim: so that Israel was sore combred. ¹⁰ Then the chyldren of Israel cryed vnto the Lorde, sayinge: we haue synned agaynste the: for we haue forsaken oure owne God, and haue serued Baalim.

⁷ Then Ionathas called Dauid, and shewed him all those wordes and brought hym to Saul. And he was in his presens as in tymes past.

²⁴ And when thou hearest the noyse of a thyng goyng in the toppes of the Peretrees, then moue. For then the Lord is gone out before the, to smyte the host of the Philistines.

³¹ and sayde to Ieroboam: take the ten peces. For thys sayth the Lord God of Israel: beholde, I wyll rent the kyngedome out of the handes of Salomon, and will geue ten trybes to the,

And so shall they kyll me, and go agayne to Rehoboam kyng of Iuda. ²⁸ Whervpon the kynge toke councell, and made two calues of golde and sayde vnto the people: ye shall not neade to go any more to Ierusalem. Beholde youre Goddes Israel which brought you out of the lande of Egypte. ²⁹ And he put the one in Bethel, and the other in Dan. ³⁰ And that doynge, was a cause of synne. And the people went before the one as farre as Dan. ³¹ And he made houses of hyllaulters, and made of the lowest of the people priestes whiche were not of the sonnes of Leui. ³² And Ieroboam made a feast the .xv. daye of the .viij. moneth like vnto the feast that was in Iuda, and offered on the aultare. And so dyd he in Bethell, to offer vnto the calues that he had made. And he put in Bethel the pryestes of the hyll aultares whiche he had made. ³³ And he offered vpon the aulter whiche he had made in Bethell, the .xv. daye of the .viij. moneth, which he had ymagined of hys owne hert: and made a solempne feaste vnto the chyldren of Israel, and wente vp to the aultare to burne sacrifyce.

¹³ Howe be it al Israell shall mourne hym, and burye hym, for thys onely of all Ieroboam shall come to the sepulchre, because in hym there is founde goodnesse towarde the Lorde God of Israell in the house of Ieroboam.

¹⁶ And he wyll geue Israell vp, because of the synne of Ieroboam wherewith he dyd synne and made Israell synne therto.

¹⁹ And the rest of the deades of Ieroboam, how he warred, and howe, he raygned, are wrytten in the boke of the storyes of the kynges of Israell. ²⁰ And the dayes whiche Ieroboam raygned, were .xxij. yeare. And then he rested wyth hys fathers, and Nadab hys sonne raygned in hys steade.

²⁹ The reste of the Actes of kynge Rehoboam and all he dyd, are wrytten in the boke of the Actes of the kynges of Iuda.

³¹ And Rehoboam layd hym to rest wyth hys fathers, & was buryed with hys fathers in the cyty of Dauid. And hys mothers name was Naamah an Ammonyte. And Abiam hys sonne raygned in hys Rome.

³ And he walked in all the synnes of hys father which he dyd before hym, and hys herte was not whole with the Lorde hys God, as the herte of Dauid hys father.

³³ And Ahab made a groue, and proceded ferther in angerynge the Lorde God of Israell, then all the kynges of Israel that were before him.

¹⁷ And who so eskapeth the swerde of Hazael, hym shall Iehu slaye: and yf any man scape the swerde of Iehu, hym shall Elizeus slaye.

²⁶ And as sone as the yeare was aboute, Benhadad nombred the Siriens and went vp to Aphek to warre wyth Israel. ²⁷ And the children of Israel were nombred and prouided of vytayle, and went against them, and pitched before them lyke two lytle flockes of kiddes: but the Sirians fylled the countrey.

⁹ Then the kynge sent vnto him a capitayne, ouer fyfty with his fyftye. And when the captayne was come to him: beholde, he sat on the toppe of an hyl. And the captayne sayde vnto him: man of God, the kinge biddeth the come doune. ¹⁰ And Eliah answered and sayde to the captain ouer the fyfty: yf I be a man of God, fyre come doune from heauen and consume the and thy fifty. And there came fyre doune from heauen, & deuoured him & his fifty. ¹¹ And the kinge went againe and sent to hym another captayn ouer fyfty with his fyfty, which answered & sayde vnto him: O man of God, thus sayth the kyng, make hast & come doune. ¹² And Eliah auswered and saide vnto them: yf I be a man of God, then let fyre come doune from heauen & consume the & thy fifty. And there came fire doune from heauen, and consumed hym, and hys fyftye. And the kinge sent agayne the thyrd capitayne ouer fyfty. ¹³ And when the third captaine ouer fyfty was come vp to him, he fel on hys knees before Eliah and besought hym & sayde vnto him: Oh man of God, let my lyfe & thy lyfe of these fyfty thy seruauntes be preciouse in thy sight. ¹⁴ Beholde, there came fyre doune from heauen & burnt vp the two fore captaynes ouer fifty with their fyfties. But let my lyfe nowe be preciouse in thy syghte. ¹⁵ Then sayde the Aungel of the Lorde vnto Eliah: go doune with him, and be not afrayd of him. And he went doune with him vnto the kinge.

¹² And Elizeus sawe and cryed: O my father, O my father, the charet of Israel and the horsmen therof, & saw him no more: and therefore toke his owne clothes and rent them in two peces.

⁷ And then went and sent to Iehosaphat kynge of Iuda sayinge: the kinge of Moab hath rebelled agaynst me, wylt thou go with me against the Moabites to battel? And he sayde: I wil go, and wylbe as thou, & my people shalbe as thyne, and my horsses as thyne.

²⁴ And when they came to the host of Israel, the Iesraelites stode vp, and layde on the Moabites, that they fleed before them. And so they entred the land and destroyed the Moabites. ²⁵ And they ouerthrewe the cytyes, & on euery good parcel of lande, cast euery man his stone and ouercouered it, and stopte al the welles of water, and felde all the good trees. But they coulde not. ²⁷ And then he toke his eldest sonne that should haue raigned in his stead, and offered him for a burntofferynge vpon the walles. And there came so greate wrathe vpon Israel, that they departed from hym & returned to their owne lande.

⁶ And when the vesselles were full, she sayde to her sonne: bryng yet a vessel. And he sayde: there is no mo. And then the oyle ceased.

And then the lad nesed seuen tymes & opened his eyes.

Myght it not rather washe in them and be cleane? And so he turned and departed in an angre. ¹³ Then came his seruauntes and communed with him, and sayde: Father yf the prophete had byd the done some great thinge, oughtest thou not to haue done it? How much rather then shouldest thou do it, whyle he sayth to the only, washe and be cleane. ¹⁴ Then he went doune & washed seuen tymes in Iordan, as the man of God bade, & his flesh chaunced, lyke vnto the flesh of a lyttel boye, and he was cleane.

And the chyldren of Israel dwelt in their tentes as before time. ⁶ Neuerthelesse they departed not from the synne of the house of Ieroboam which made Israel sinne but walked therein. And there remayned a groue also in Samaria styll:

And then he went to Ierusalem, and brake doune of the walle of Ierusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, foure hundred cubytes. ¹⁴ And he toke all the goulde and siluer & al the vesseles that were founde in the house of the Lorde, & in the treasure of the kynges house, and hostages thereto: and then returned to Samaria agayne. ¹⁵ The rest of the actes of Ioas which he did and hys powre, & how he fought with Amasiah kyng of Iuda, are writen in the chronicles of the kynges of Israel: ¹⁶ & Ioas layde hym to rest wyth hys fathers, and was buryed at Samaria among the kynges of Israel: & Ieroboam hys sonne raigned in hys roume.

²⁵ He restored the coastes of Israel from the enterynge of Hemath vnto the sea, in the wylde feldes, accordynge to the worde of the Lorde God of Israell whiche he spake thorow hys seruaunt Ionah the sonne of Amithai the Prophete, which was of Geth Opher. ²⁶ For the Lorde had sene howe that the affliccion of Israell was excedynge bytter, in so much that the presoned & the forsaken were at an ende. And there was no helper vnto Israel. ²⁷ And the Lorde had not yet sayde that men shulde put out the name of Israel from vnder heauen. And therfore he holpe them by the hand of Ieroboam the sonne of Ioas. ²⁸ The rest of the deedes of Ieroboam, and all he dyd, & his powre how he fought, & how he restored Damasco and Hemath to Iuda in Israel are written in the boke of the chronicles of the kinges of Israel. ²⁹ And Ieroboam layde hym to rest with his fathers and wyth the kynges of Israel, and Zachariah hys sonne raigned in hys steade.

⁴ He put awaye the hyllaultares & brake the Images, & cut doune the groues, & all to brake the brasen serpente that Moses made. For vnto those dayes the chyldren of Israell dyd burne sacryfyce to it, and called it Nehustan.

¹⁹ And his prayer & how that he was hearde, & all his synne & trespace, and the places where he made hylaulters and set vp groues & kerued Images before he was mekened, are written amonge the deades of the sears of visyons.

²⁷ Therfore gauest thou them ouer into the hande of theyr enemyes that vexed them. And in the tyme of theyr trouble they cried vnto the, and thou hardest them from heauen and thorowe thy greate mercye thou gaueste them sauyours, which helped them oute of the hande of theyr enemyes.

³¹ But for thy greate mercyes sake thou haste not vtterlye consumed them, nether forsaken them: for thou arte a gracyous and mercyfull God. ³² Nowe oure God, thou great God, mightye and terryble, that thou kepest couenaunte and mercy, regarde not a lytle of the trauaile that hath happened vnto vs, and our kynges prynces, priestes, prophetes, fathers and all thy people, sence the tyme of the kynges of Assur vnto thys daye.

¹⁸ Yet standeth the Lorde waytynge, that he maye haue mercye vpon you, and lyfteth hym selfe vp, that he maye receyue you to grace. For the Lorde God is ryghtuous. Happy are all they that wayte for him. ¹⁹ For thus (O thou people of Syon and ye citisens of Ierusalem) shall ye neuer be in heauynes, for doutlesse he wyll haue mercy vpon the. As sone as he heareth the voyce of thy crye, he wyl helpe the.

⁸ Abyde the, thou haste made a condycyon with my lorde the kyng of the Assyrians, that he shuld geue the two thousand horses: art thou able to set men ther vp?

² Who rayseth vp the iuste from the rysynge of the Sunne, and calleth him to go forth? Who casteth downe the people, and subdueth the kynges before him: that he maye thorowe them all to the grounde wyth hys swearde, and scatre them lyke stuble with hys bowe?

A daye for a yeare, a daye (I saye) for a yeare, wyll I euer laye vpon the. ⁷ Therfore set now thy face agaynst that beseged Ierusalem, and dyscouer thyne arme, that thou mayest prophecye agaynst it. ⁸ Beholde, I wyll laye chaynes vpon the, that thou shalt not turne the frome one side to another, tyll thou haste ended the dayes of thy sege. ⁹ Wherfore, take vnto the wheate, barlye beanes, growell sede, Millium and fitches: and put these together in a vessell, and make the loaues of bred therof, accordynge to the nombre of the dayes that thou must lye vpon thy side: that thou mayeste haue bred to eate, for thre hundreth and .xc. dayes. ¹⁰ And the meate that thou eatest, shall haue a certayne wayght appoynted: namely twentye sicles euery daye. This apoynted meate shalt thou eate daylye, from the begynnynge to the ende.

¹ O thou sonne of man, take the then a sharpe knyfe, namely, a rasoure. Take that, & shaue the hearre of thy head and beerd: Then take the scoales and the waight, and deuyde the hearre a sunder. ² And burne the thirde parte therof in the fyre in the myddest of the cytie, & cut the other thirde parte in peces with a knyfe. As for the thirde parte that remayneth, cast it in the wynde, & then shewe the bare knyfe. ³ Yet afterwarde take a lytle of the same, and bynde it in thy cote lappe. ⁴ Then take a curtesy of it, and cast it in the myddest of the fyre: & burne it in the fyre. Out of the same fyre shall there goo a flame, vpon the whole house of Israell.

¹ The worde of the Lorde came vnto me, sayinge: ² Thou sonne of man, thou dwellest in the myddest of a frowarde housholde: whiche haue eyes to se, and yet se not: eares haue they to hear, & yet heare thei not, for they are an obstinate housholde. ³ Therfore (O thou sonne of man) make thy gere ready to flyt, and go forth by fayre daye lyghte, that they may se. Yea euen in theyr syght shalt thou go from thy place to another place: yf peraduenture they wyll consydre, that they be an vnobedyente housholde. ⁴ Thy gere that thou hast made redy to flyt withal, shalt thou bear oute by fayre daye lyghte, that they maye se: and thou thy selfe shalte go forth also at euen in theyr sighte, as a man doeth when he flytteth. ⁵ Dygge thorowe the wall, that they may se, & beare thorowe it the same thing, that thou tokest vp ⁶ in theyr sight. As for thy selfe, thou shalte go forth in the darcke. Hyde thy face that thou se not the earthe, for I haue made the a shewtoken vnto the house of Israel. ⁷ Nowe as the Lorde commaunded me, so I dyd: the gere that I had made ready, brought I oute by daye. At euen I brake doune an hole thorowe the wall with my hande: & when it was darcke, I toke the gere vpon my shoulders, and bare them oute in theyr syghte.

¹⁴ And thoughe Noe, Daniel & Iob these thre men were amonge them, yet shal they in their rightuousnesse delyuer but theyr owne soules, sayeth the Lorde God.

³⁰ And I soughte in the lande for a man, that woulde make vp the hedge, and set him selfe in the gappe before me in the landes behalfe, that I shoulde not vtterlye destroy it: but I coulde fynde none.

¹ The hande of the Lord came vpon me, & caryed me out in the sprete of the Lorde, & let me downe in a playne felde that laye full of bones, ² and he led me rounde aboute by them: & beholde, the bones that laye vpon the felde, were very many, and maruelous drye also. ³ Then sayde he vnto me: Thou sonne of man: thinkest thou these bones maye lyue agayne? I answered: O Lorde God, thou knowest. ⁴ And he sayde vnto me: prophecye thou vpon these bones, & speake vnto them: Ye drye bones, heare the worde of the Lorde. ⁵ Thus sayeth the Lorde God vnto these bones: Beholde, I wyll put breth into you, that ye maye lyue: ⁶ I wyll geue yow synowes, and make flesh grow vpon you, & couer you ouer with skinne: & so geue you breth, that ye may lyue, and knowe, that I am the Lorde. ⁷ So I prophecyed, as he had commaunded me. And as I was prophecyinge there came a noyse and a greate mocyon, so that the bones ranne euery one to another. ⁸ Now when I had loked, beholde, they had synowes, and flesh grewe vpon them: and aboue they were couered with skynne, but there was no breth in them. ⁹ Then sayde he vnto me: Thou sonne of man, prophecye thou towarde the wynde: prophecy, & speake to the wynd: Thus sayeth the Lord God: Come (O thou ayre) from the foure wyndes, and blowe vpon these slayne, that they maye be restored to lyfe. ¹⁰ So I prophecied, as he had commaunded me: then came the breth into them, & they receyued lyfe, & stode vp vpon their fete, a maruelous greate sorte.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed, and can haue no right of the lawe: for why? they folowe the doctrynes of men.

¹⁴ In the valleye appoynted, there shalbe many, many people: for the daye of the Lorde is nye in the valleye appoynted.

³ Thus sayth the Lord: for thre & foure wyckednesses of Damascus, I wil not spare her, because they haue throshed Galaad with yron flales:

²¹ Thus they that escape vpon the hyll of Syon, shall go vp to punysh the mount of Esau and the kyngdome shallbe the Lordes.

¹⁸ Where is there such a God as thou? that pardonest wickednes, and forgeuest the offences of the remnaunte of thyne herytage? He kepeth not hys wrath for euer. And why? his delyte is to haue compassyon: ¹⁹ he shal turne agayne, and be mercyfull to vs: he shall put doune oure wyckednesses, and caste all oure synnes into the botome of the sea. ²⁰ Thou shalt kepe thy truste wyth Iacob, and thy mercye for Abraham, lyke as thou haste sworne vnto oure fathers longe agoo.

⁵ What is nowe become of your forefathers & the prophetes? are they yet styll aliue?

⁴¹ Then shall the kinge saye vnto them that shalbe on the lyfte hande. Departe from me ye cursed, into euerlastinge fyre, which is prepared for the deuyll and hys angels.

⁵² and graues did open, and the bodies of manye saynctes which slept arose ⁵³ & came out of the graues after his resurreccion: and came into the holy citie and appered vnto manye.

⁵ And he loked rounde aboute on them angerly, mournynge on the blindnes of theyr hertes, & said to the man: stretch forth thyne hand. And he stretched it out. And hys hande was restored euen as whole as the other.

⁵ And he could there shewe no miracles, but layd his handes vpon a few sicke folke and healed them.

²⁰ For Herode feared Iohan, knowinge that he was a iust man and an holy: and gaue him reuerence: and when he hearde hym, he did many thynges, and heard him gladly.

¹⁴ When Iesus sawe that he was displeased, and sayed to them. Suffer the chyldren to come vnto me, and forbyd them not. For of suche is the kyngdom of God.

⁵⁴ He remembreth mercye, and helpeth his sernaunte Israell. ⁵⁵ Euen as he promysed to our fathers Abraham and to his sede for euer.

⁷² To fulfyll the mercy promysed to oure fathers, and to remember his holye couenaunt. ⁷³ And to performe the othe which he sware to oure father Abraham,

¹¹ for vnto you is borne this day in the citye of Dauid, a sauioure whiche is Christe the Lorde.

⁷ And shall not God aduenge his electe, which crye daye and nyghte vnto hym, ye though he defarre them?

⁵ His mother sayd vnto the mynisters: whatsoeuer he saith vnto you, do it. ⁶ And ther were standing there, sixe water pots of stone after the maner of the puryfiyng of the Iewes containinge two or thre fyrkins a pece. ⁷ And Iesus sayd vnto them: fill the waterpottes with water. And they filled them vp to the bryme. ⁸ And he sayd vnto them: drawe out now, & beare vnto the gouerner of the feaste. And they beare it.

²⁵ Verely verely, I saye vnto you: The tyme shall come, and nowe is, when the dead shall heare the voyce of the sonne of God. And they that heare shall lyue.

²⁸ Maruaile not at this, the houre shall come in the which all that are in the graues, shal heare his voice, ²⁹ and shall come forth: they that haue done good, vnto the resurreccion of lyfe, and they that hath done euil, vnto the resurreccion of damnacion.

³ and hys systers sente vnto hym, saiynge: Lorde, beholde, he whome thou louest, is sicke.

³⁹ And Iesus sayde: take ye away the stone. Martha the syster of hym that was dead, said vnto him: Lorde by thys tyme he stinketh: for he hath bene dead four dayes. ⁴⁰ Iesus sayed vnto her: Sayd I not vnto the, that yf thou dyddest beleue, thou shouldest se the glory of God. ⁴¹ Then they toke awaye the stone from that place where the dead was layde. And Iesus lyft vp hys eyes, and sayde: Father I thanke the because that thou haste hearde me.

⁴⁴ And he that was dead, came forth, bounde hand and fote with graue boundes, and his face was bounde with a napkin. Iesus sayed vnto them, lowse him, and let hym go.

¹⁵ in so much that they broughte the sycke into the stretes, & layed them on beddes and palettes, that at the leaste waye, the shaddowe of Peter when he came by, myght shadowe some of them.

² Then deuout men dressed Stephan, & made great lamentation ouer hym.

³⁶ Howbeit Dauid after he had in hys tyme fulfylled the wyll of God, he slepte, and was layde with hys fathers, and sawe corrupcyon.

¹² so that from his bodye, were brought vnto the sycke, napkyns or partletes, and the diseases departed from them, and the euill spirites went out of them.

¹⁸ For the preachyng of the crosse is to them that peryshe folyshnes, but vnto vs whiche are saued, it is the power of God.

²⁶ For he lounged after you, and was full of heauines, because that ye had hearde saye, that he shoulde be sycke.

⁹ which shall be punyshed wyth euerlastyng dampnacyon from the presence of the Lorde, and from the glory of hys power,

²⁹ For our God is a consumynge fyre.

¹¹ And after .iij. dayes and an halfe the spyryte of lyfe from God, entred into them. And they stode vp vpon theyr fete, and great feare came vpon them, whiche sawe them.
