¹ Thys is a true saiyng. If a man couete the offyce of a byshop, he desyreth a good worke.

³⁰ The frute of the righteous is as the tree of lyfe, a wyse man also wynneth mens soules.

¹⁰ Lykewyse I saye vnto you ioye is made in the presence of the Angels of God ouer one synner that repenteth.

²⁰ It is written in the boke of Psalmes: His habitacion be voide, and no man be dwelling ther in: and his Byshoprycke let another take.

²⁸ Take hede therfore vnto youre selues, and to all the flocke wherof the holy ghoste hath made you ouersears, to rule the congregacyon of God, which he hath purchased wt hys bloude.

¹³ I speake to you gentyls, in as much as I am the Apostle of the gentyls: I wil magnify myne offyce,

¹² that the saynctes myghte haue all thinges necessarye to worke and ministre wythal, to the edifiynge of the bodye of Christ,

¹ Paule and Tymotheus the seruauntes of Iesu Christe. To all the sainctes in Christe Iesu, which are at Philippos, wyth the Bishops and Deacons.

¹⁴ We desyre you brethren, warne them that are vnruly, comforte the feble minded, forbeare the weake, haue contynuall pacience towarde all men.

¹⁵ Thys is a true saiynge and by all meanes worthy to be receyued, that Christ Iesus came into the worlde to saue synners, of whom I am chiefe.

² Yea and a bishop muste be fautlesse the husband of one wyfe, sober discrete, hone style apparelled, harberous, apt to teache, ³ not dronken, no fyghter, not geuen to fylthy lucre: but gentle, abhorrynge fyghtyng, abhorrynge couetousnes, ⁴ and one that ruleth hys owne house honestlye, hauing children vnder obedience, wyth all honestye. ⁵ For yf a man can not rule hys owne house, howe shall he care for the congregacion of God. ⁶ He maye not be a yong scholer, lest he swell and fall into the iudgement of the euyll speaker. ⁷ He muste also be well reported of amonge them whiche are wythout forth, lest he fall into rebuke and snare of the euyll speaker.

⁹ Thys is a sure saiyng and of all partyes worthy to be receyued.

¹¹ It is a true saiyng, yf we be deade wt hym we also shall lyue with hym.

⁷ For a byshoppe must be fautelesse, as it becommeth the mynister of God: not stubborne, not angrye, no dronkarde, no fyghter, not geuen to fylthy lucre:

⁸ Thys is a true saiynge. Of these thynges I would thou shouldest certyfye, that they whiche beleue God, might be dylygent to go forwarde in good workes. These thynges are good and profytable vnto men.

¹⁵ And loked to, that no man be destitute of the grace of God, and that no rote of bytternes sprynge vp and trouble, and therebye manye be defyled,

¹⁹ Brethren yf anye of you erre from the trueth and an other conuerte hym, ²⁰ let the same know that he which conuerted the synner from goyng astraye out of hys waye, shall saue a soule from death, and shall hyde the multytude of synnes.

²⁵ For ye were as shepe goynge astraye: but are nowe returned to the shepeherde and byshop of your soules.

¹⁵ Se that none of you suffer as a murtherer or as a thefe, or an euil doar, or as a busibody in other mens matters.

² se that ye fede Christes flocke, which is amonge you, takinge the ouersight of them, not as though ye were compelled therto, but wyllingly, not for the desire of fylthy lucre, but of a good minde,
