¹ After these thynges were done, it chaunced that Naboth the Iezrahelite had a vyneyard in Iezrahel harde by the palace of Ahab kynge of Samaria.

¹⁸ And theyr coastes were Iesraelah, Casuloth, Sunem,

³³ When al the Madianytes, the Amalekites and they of the east, were gathered together, & had gone and pitched in the valeye of Ierael:

¹ The Philistines gethered all their hostes together vnto Apher. And Israell pitched by a fountayne in Iesrahel.

⁴⁵ And within a lytle whyle, heauen was blacke wyth cloudes and winde, and there was a great rayne. And Ahab rode and went to Iezrahel. ⁴⁶ And the hande of the Lorde was on Eliah, and he gyrdled vp hys loynes and ranne before Ahab, tyl they came to Iezrahel.

³⁵ Then a certaine man of the children of the Prophetes said vnto his felow with the word of the Lorde, smyte me I pray the. And the man woulde not smyte him. ³⁶ And he sayde, because thou hast not obeyed the voyce of the Lorde: beholde, as sone as thou arte departed from me, a lyon shal slaye the. And as sone as he was departed from him, a lyon found him and slue him. ³⁷ Then he founde another man & sayd to him: smyte me I pray the. And the man gaue him a good stripe and wounded him. ³⁸ And the Prophete wente forth & wayted for the kynge by the waye, and put ashes vpon his eyes, and put him selfe out of knowledge. ³⁹ And when the kinge came by, he cryed vnto hym and sayde: thy seruaunt went out in the myddes in the battel. And se, there was one beganne to flee. And there came a man to me and sayde: kepe this man. And yf he be missed thy lyfe shall go for hys, or else thou shalte paye a talent of syluer. ⁴⁰ And as thy seruaunt had here and there to do, he was gone. And the kynge of Israel sayde vnto hym: euen so shall the iudgement be as thou hast defyned it thy selfe. ⁴¹ And he hasted and toke the ashes away from his eyes, and the kinge of Israel knewe hym, that he was of the Prophetes. ⁴² And he sayde vnto the kinge: thus sayeth the Lorde: because thou hast let go a man, that ought to haue dyed, thy lyfe shal go for his lyfe, and thy people for hys. ⁴³ And the kynge of Israell went to hys house waywarde and heauy, and entred into Samaria.

²² And therto in the very tyme of hys tribulacion dyd kynge Ahaz trespace yet moare agaynst the Lorde.

¹³ And after all thys that is come vpon vs (because of oure euyll deades & greate trespace) thou oure God hast spared oure wyckednesse, and hast geuen vs a delyueraunce as it is come to passe thys daye. ¹⁴ As for vs, we haue turned backe, & haue let go thy commaundementes, to make contracte wyth the people of these abhomynacyons. Wylte thou then be wrothe at vs, tyl we be vtterlye consumed, so that nothing remaine and tyll there be no delyueraunce?

¹³ For the people turneth not vnto hym, that chastyseth them, nether do they seke the Lorde of Hostes.

³ Where as thou (O Lorde) lokest only vpon faythe and truthe. Thou hast scourged them, but they toke no repentaunce: thou hast correcte them for amendement, but they refused thy correccion. They made their faces harder then a stone, and woulde not amende.

⁴ And the Lorde sayde vnto him: call his name Iesraell, for I wyll shortly auenge the bloude of Iesrael, vpon the house of Iehu, and wyll brynge the kingedome of the house of Israel to an ende. ⁵ Then wyl I breake the bowe of Israel, in the valley of Iesrael.
