⁶ But when Ahiah hearde the sounde of her fete as she come to the dore, he sayde: come in thou wyfe of Ieroboam, why feynest thou thy selfe to be another? I am sent to the a cruell messenger.

¹⁶ But Samuel sayde to Saul: cease and let me tell the what the Lorde hath sayde to me thys nyght. And he sayde vnto him: saye on.

²⁶ Then sayd Samuel vnto Saul: I wyll not returne wyth the: for thou hast cast awaye the byddyng of God, & therfore the Lorde hath cast awaye the also, that thou shalt not be Kyng ouer Israel.

¹⁸ because thou obeydst not the voyce of the Lorde, nor excutest hys fearce wrath vpon the Amalekites. Therfore hath the lord done thys vnto the this daye.

²⁰ And as they sate at the table, the worde of the Lorde came vnto the prophete that brought hym agayne. ²¹ And he cryed vnto the man of God that came from Iuda, saying: thus sayth the Lorde: because thou hast dysobeyed the mouthe of the Lorde, and haste not kepte the commaundement which the Lorde thy God commaunded the, ²² but camest backe agayne & haste eaten breade, and droncke water in the place in whiche he bade that thou shuldeste eat no bread, nor drincke water: therfor thy carkasse shal not come vnto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

² And Ieroboam sayde vnto his wyfe: vp a feloweshyppe, & chaunge thyne apparel that thou be not knowen to be the wyfe of Ieroboam, and get the to Siloh. For there is Ahiah the Prophete whiche tolde me that I shulde be kyng ouer this people.

⁵ And the Lorde sayde vnto Ahiah: beholde, the wyfe of Ieroboam commeth, to questyon wyth the aboute her sonne whiche is sycke. Thys wyse and thys wyse aunswere her. And when she came, she feyned her selfe to be another woman.

¹⁰ therfore beholde I wil bring euyll vpon the house of Ieroboam, and wyll stryke from Ieroboam al that pysseth against the wall, and whatsoeuer is in preson or forsaken in Israel, and wyll take awaye the remnaunt of the house of Ieroboam, as men take awaye a dong hyll, tyll it be consumed. ¹¹ And whosoeuer of Ieroboams house dye in the toune, hym shall the dogges eate, and hym that dyeth in the felde, shall the foules of the ayre eate: for the Lorde hath sayde it,

⁴² And he sayde vnto the kinge: thus sayeth the Lorde: because thou hast let go a man, that ought to haue dyed, thy lyfe shal go for his lyfe, and thy people for hys.

¹⁸ vp and go doune to mete Ahab kynge of Israel whiche is in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineiard of Naboth: for he is gone doune thither, to take possession of it. ¹⁹ And saye vnto him: thus saith the Lorde, thou hast killed & therto gotten possession. And saie moreouer vnto him, thus sayth the lord: in the place where dogges lapped the bloude of Naboth, shall dogges lappe euen thy bloude also. ²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliah: hast thou founde me thine enemy at any time? and he saide: ye, because thou art vtterly geuen to worcke wyckednesse in the syghte of the lord. ²¹ Beholde, I will brynge euyl vpon the, & wyl make cleane ryddance of the, and wil destroy vnto Ahab all that pysseth agaynste the wal, and yf ought be presoned or forsaken in Israell: ²² and will make thyne house, lyke the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat, and lyke the house of Baasa the sonne of Ahiah, for the angerynge wherwith thou hast angered, and made Israel synne. ²³ And therto against Iezabel came the word of the lorde sayinge: dogges shall eate Iezabell, vnder the walles of Iezrael. ²⁴ And he that dyeth of Ahab in the towne, hym shal dogges eate: and he that dyeth in the feldes, him shall the foules of the ayre eate.

⁸ And the kynge of Israell sayde to Iehosaphat: there is yet one, by whome we maye aske counsel of the Lorde, one Micheah the sonne of Iemlah. But I hate hym: for he neuer prophesyeth good vnto me, but euyl. And Iehosaphat sayde: let not the kinge saye so.

¹³ whyche compasseth the wyse in theyr owne craftynesse, and ouerthroweth the councell of the wycked?

¹⁰ The Lorde bryngeth the counsayl of the Heythen to naught, and turneth the deuyces of the people.

² Aske councell at the Lorde (we praye the) of oure behalfe, for Nabuchodonosor the Kynge of Babylon besegeth vs, yf the Lorde (peraduenture) wyll deale wyth vs, accordynge to his maruelous power, and take hym from vs. ³ Then spake Ieremy. Geue Zedekiah this answere. ⁴ Thus sayeth the Lorde God of Israell, beholde, I wyll turne backe the weapens, that ye haue in youre handes, wherwith ye fyght agaynst the kynge of Babylon and the Caldees, whyche besege you rounde aboute the walles, and I wyl brynge them together in to the myddest of this cyti ⁵ and I my selfe wyll fight agaynst you, with an outstretched hande, and with a mightye arme, in great displeasure and terrible wrath ⁶ and wyll smyte them, that dwell in this cytye: yee both men and catell shall dye of the pestilence. ⁷ And after this (sayeth the Lorde) I shall delyuer Zedekiah the kynge of Iuda, & hys seruauntes, his people (& soch as are escaped in the cytie, from the pestilence, swearde, and honger) in to the power of Nabuchodonosor kynge of Babylon: yee in to the handes of their enemyes, in to the handes of those that folowe vpon their lyues, whiche shall smyte them with the swearde: they shall not pytie them, they shall not spare them, they shall haue no mercye vpon them.

⁴ Yee I will sende the vnto a people that haue rough disages and styf stomackes: vnto whom thou shalt saye on this maner: This the Lorde God hym selfe hath spoken, ⁵ that whether they be obedyent or no (for it is a frowarde housholde) they maye knowe yet that there hath bene a Prophet amonge them.

³ Thou sonne of man, these men beare theyr Idols in their hertes, and go purposly vpon the stomblynge block of their owne wyckednesse: how darre they then aske councell at me? ⁴ Therfore speake vnto them, & saye: Thus sayth the Lorde God. Euerye man of the house of Israell that beareth hys Idols in his herte, purposynge to stomble in hys owne wickednesse, and commeth to a Prophete, to enquere any thynge at me by hym: vnto that man will I the Lorde my self geue aunswere, accordynge to the multytude of hys Idoles, ⁵ that the house of Israell maye be snared in theyr owne hertes, because they be cleane gone from me, for theyr Idoles sakes.

⁷ For euery man (whether he be of the house of Israell or a straunger, that sogeourneth in Israell) whiche departeth fro me, & caryeth Idols in hys herte, purposynge to go still stombling in his owne wickednesse, & commeth to a Prophete, for to aske councell at me thorowe him: vnto that man wyll I the Lorde geue aunswere, by myne owne selfe. ⁸ I wyll set my face agaynste that man, & will make him to be an example for other, yea & a comon by worde, and wyll rote hym oute of my people, that he maye knowe how that I am the Lorde.

¹⁹ Then Daniel (whose name was Balthasar) helde hys peace by the space of an houre, and hys thoughtes troubled hym. So the kynge spake, and sayd: O Balthasar, let neyther the dreame nor the interpretacyon therof feare the. Balthazar aunswered, saying: O my Lorde, this dreame happen to thyne enemyes, & the interpretacyon to thyne aduersaryes. ²⁰ As for the tre, that thou sawest, whiche was so great & mighty, whose height reached vnto the heauen, and hys bredth into all the worlde, ²¹ whose leues were fayre, and the frute muche, vnder the whiche the beastes of the feld had theyr habitacion, and vpon whose braunches the foules of the ayre dyd syt. ²² Euen thou (O kynge) arte the tre, great & stronge. Thy greatnesse increaseth, and reacheth vnto the heauen, so doth thy power to the endes of the earthe. ²³ But where as the kynge sawe a watcher euen an holye aungel, that came downe from heauen, and sayde: hewe doune the tre, and destroye it: yet leaue the grounde of the rote in the earthe, and brynge hym vpon the playne felde with cheynes of yron & stele: He shall be wet with the dewe of heauen, and hys parte shalbe with the beastes of the felde, tyll seuen yeares be come and gone vpon him: ²⁴ This (O Kynge) is the interpretacyon, yea it is the very deuyce of him, that is hyest of all, and it toucheth my Lorde the kynge. ²⁵ Thou shalte be caste oute from men, & thy dwellyng shalbe with the beastes of the feld: with grasse shalte thou be fed lyke an oxe. Thou must be wet with the dewe of the heauen, yea seuen yeares shall come, and go vpon the, tyll thou know, that the hyest hath power vpon the kingedomes of men, & geueth them to whome he lyst.

¹⁷ Daniel aunswered, and sayde before the kynge. As for thy rewardes, kepe them to thy selfe, or geue thy ryche gyftes to another: yet not the lesse, I wyll rede the wrytynge vnto the kynge, and shewe hym the interpretacion therof. ¹⁸ O kynge, God the hyest gaue vnto Nabuchodonosor thy father, the dignite of a kynge with worshippe and honoure, ¹⁹ so that al people, kynredes and tunge stode in awe & feare of him, by reason of the hye estate, that he had lente him. For why, he slewe whom he wold: he smote, whom it pleased hym. Agayne, whom he wolde, he set vp: and whome he lyst, he put doune. ²⁰ But because hys herte was so proude, and hys stomacke set so fast vnto wilfulnesse: he was deposed from hys kingly trone, & his magesty was taken from hym. ²¹ He was shote oute from amonge men, his herte was lyke a beastes herte, and hys dwellynge was wyth the wylde asses: he was fayne to eate grasse lyke an oxe, and hys body was wet with the dewe of the heauen: tyll he knewe, that the hyest had power vpon the kingdomes of men, and setteth ouer them, whome he lyst. ²² And thou hys sonne (O Balthazar) for al this, hast not submytted thyne herte, thoughe thou knewest all these thynges, ²³ but hast magnyfyed thy selfe aboue the Lorde of heauen, so that the vessels of hys house were broughte before the, that thou, and thy Lordes, with thy quene and concubynes, myght drincke wyne thereoute: And hast praysed the Idoles of syluer and golde, copper and yron, of wode and stone: As for the God in whose hande consysteth thy breth and all thy wayes: thou haste not loaued hym. ²⁴ Therfore is the palme of thys hande sente hyther from hym, to token vp thys writinge. ²⁵ And thys is the scrypture, that is wryten vp: Mane, Thetel, Phares. ²⁶ Nowe the interpretacyon of the thynge is thys: Mane, God hath nombred the kyngdome, and brought it to an ende: ²⁷ Thetel, thou arte weyed in the balaunce and arte founde to lyghte: ²⁸ Phares, thy kyngdome is delte in partes, and geuen to the Medes and Perses.

²¹ The sonne of man goeth as it is written of hym, but woo be to that man, by whom the sonne of man is betrayed: good were it for hym, yf that man had neuer bene borne.

²⁰ And they watched hym, and sent forthe spyes whiche shoulde fayne them selues perfect, to take him in his wordes, and to delyuer him vnto the power and authoritie of the debitie. ²¹ And they axed him, saiynge: Mayster, we knowe that thou sayest and teachest right, neyther consyderest thou any mans degree, but teachest the waye of God truely. ²² Is it laufull for vs to geue Cesar tribute or no? ²³ He perceyued theyr craftynes, and sayde vnto them. Why tempt ye me?

³ Then said Peter. Ananias, how is it, that Sathan hath fylled thyne hert, that thou shouldest lye vnto the holy ghost, and kepe awaye part of the pryce of the lyuelod: ⁴ Pertained it not vnto the onelie, and after it was solde, was not the price in thine owne power? Howe is that, thou hast conceiued this thinge in thyne herte? Thou hast not lied vnto men, but vnto God. ⁵ When Ananias hearde these wordes, he fell doune and gaue vp the ghost. And great feare came on all them that hearde these thinges.

⁹ Then saied Peter vnto her: why haue ye agreed together to tempte the spiryte of the Lorde? Beholde, the fete of them whiche haue buried thy husbande, are at the dore, and shal cary the out. ¹⁰ Then she fell doune straighte waye at his fete, and yelded vp the ghoste. And the yonge men came in and founde her dead, and caryed her out & buried her by her housbande.

¹³ neyther is there anye creature inuisible in the syght of him. For all thinges are naked and bare vnto the eyes of him, of whom we speake.
