¹ Jesus having called his twelve disciples, he gave them power to cast out unclean spirits, and to heal diseases and disorders of every kind. ² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; the first is Simon, who is called Peter, then Andrew his brother, ³ James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas, and Matthew the publican, James the son of Alpheus, and Labbeus, whose sirname was Thaddeus, Simon the zelot, ⁴ and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

²⁸ but if I exorcize devils by the spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is set up among you.

¹⁹ go and instruct all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost: ²⁰ teaching them to observe every thing which I have enjoin'd you: and be assured I shall be always with you to the end of the world.

¹⁴ then he chose twelve of them to be near his person, and afterwards to be gospel-missionaries. ¹⁵ with full power to heal diseases, and dispossess demons. ¹⁶ these were Simon, whom he sirnam'd Peter, James the son of Zebedee, ¹⁷ and John the brother of James, (whom he had named Boanerges, that is to say, sons of thunder.) ¹⁸ Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, Thaddeus, Simon the Canaanite, ¹⁹ and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

³⁰ Now the apostles met together in a body before Jesus, and gave him a full account, both of what they had done, and what they had taught.

¹⁵ Then he said to them, go ye into all parts of the world, and preach the gospel to all mankind. ¹⁶ he that believeth, and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that disbelieves, shall be condemned. ¹⁷ they that believe shall be endued with these miraculous gifts: in my name they shall cast out demons: they shall speak new languages: ¹⁸ they shall handle serpents, and if they drink any mortal poison, it shall do them no hurt: they shall lay hands on the sick, and the sick shall recover. ¹⁹ Now after the Lord had convers'd with them, he was assum'd up to heaven, where he sat on the right hand of God.

¹³ when it was day, he called his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom he stiled missionarys: Simon, ¹⁴ (to whom he gave the name of Peter) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, ¹⁵ Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon surnamed the Zelot, ¹⁶ Jude the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who prov'd the traitor.

⁵¹ Now the time of his assumption drawing nigh, he was fix'd in his resolution to go to Jerusalem:

⁴⁵ then he open'd their minds to make them understand the scriptures, and said to them, ⁴⁶ thus it is written, and thus it behov'd Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: ⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preach'd in his name, among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ you are witnesses of these things. ⁴⁹ and I am going to send you what my father has promis'd you. but continue in the city of Jerusalem, until you shall be endued with power from on high.

⁵¹ and while he was blessing them, he was taken from them, and carried up into heaven.

¹⁶ and of his Plenitude have we all received, even abundant grace.

³⁴ for he whom God hath sent, saith nothing but what is divine: for God hath given him the spirit without restriction.

⁶² what if you should see the son of man ascend up where he was before?

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, have I not chosen you all twelve, and yet one of you is an avowed enemy?

¹ Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus perceiving that his hour was come, when he was to pass out of this world, and go to the father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

³ though he knew that the father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and was going to God,

¹⁸ I say not this of you all; for I know whom I have chosen: and that passage of the scripture must be fulfilled, "He that eateth bread with me, hath lift up his heel against me."

²⁸ I was sent by the father, and am come into the world: but now I leave the world, and am going to my father.

¹³ now that I am coming to thee, while I am here, I make these requests for them, that their joy in me may be compleat.

¹⁷ that is to say, master! Jesus said to her, touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my father: but go to my brethren, and say to them, "I ascend unto my father and your father, even my God and your God."

²¹ then said Jesus to them again, "peace be with you: as my father hath sent me, even so send I you."

⁹ After this discourse, while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.

¹¹ "ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall descend in the same manner as ye have seen him ascend thither."

¹³ When they were arrived there, they went up into an upper room, where Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, Simon the Zelot, and Judas the brother of James used to resort,

³⁸ how Jesus of Nazareth divinely inspired by the holy spirit, and with miraculous power, went about doing good, and healing all that were under the oppression of the devil: because God was with him.

⁴⁰ but God raised him up the third day, and shewed him openly, ⁴¹ not to all the people, but to those witnesses, which God had before chosen: to us, I say, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. ⁴² and he commanded us to publish, and to testify to the people, that he was the person whom God had constituted to be the judge of the living, and of the dead.

¹ Paul an apostle (not from men, nor by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the father who raised him from the dead) and all the brethren,

²⁰ being built upon the foundation laid by the apostles and prophets, whereof Jesus Christ himself is the main stone of the angle:

⁸ wherefore 'tis said, " when he ascended up on high, he made a number of captives, and gave gifts to men." ⁹ now his having ascended, what does it mean, but that he had descended into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ he that descended, is the same too that ascended far above all heavens, to perfect all things.

¹⁶ the mystery of piety is the pillar and basts of truth; and certainly most extraordinary. God has appear'd in the flesh, been justified by the spirit, seen by angels, proclaim'd to the Gentiles, believ'd by the world, and assum'd into glory.

¹⁹ might have strong consolation to serve as a sure and stedfast anchor to the soul: till it arrives within the veil, ²⁰ where Jesus is gone to usher us in, having been made an high priest for ever, after the order of Melchisedec.

²⁴ for Christ is not entred into a sanctuary made by human art, such as is only representative of the true one, but into heaven itself, to appear from henceforth in the presence of God on our behalf:

²² who being ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God, where angels, dominations, and potentates have been subjected to him.

² by admonishing you to be mindful of the predictions of the holy prophets, and of the directions of the apostles of our Lord and Saviour.

¹ The REVELATION of Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to shew to his servants things which must shortly come to pass; this he signified by his angel whom he dispatch'd to his servant John:

⁷ he that hath an ear, let him hear what the spirit saith to the churches, to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of my God."

¹¹ he that hath an ear, let him hear what the spirit saith to the churches, he that overcometh, shall not be hurt by the second death."
