¹ Since then Christ has with respect to his mortal nature died for us, arm yourselves with this reflection, that he, who is dead with respect to sensuality, has renounced sin;

² God forbid, that we who have died to sin should live any longer therein.

⁷ for by its being dead, we are set free from sin.

¹¹ in like manner consider your selves as dead to sin; but alive to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹² the night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore throw off the habits of darkness, and be invested with the ornaments of light. ¹³ let us behave with decency as in open view; not with rioting and drunkenness, not with lewdness and brutality, not with strife and envy. ¹⁴ but imitate the Lord Jesus Christ, and by no means indulge any sensual desires.

²⁰ I am crucified with Christ, it is not I that now live, but Christ that liveth in me; the life I have in this body I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

²⁴ now they who belong to Christ, have crucified the animal nature with the affections and passions thereof.

¹³ wherefore invest yourselves with the set of divine armour, that ye may be able to withstand in the difficult day, and having overcome all to maintain your ground.

⁵ for the same temper of mind ought to be in you as was in Christ Jesus:

³ for you are dead to them, and Christ has secured your life with God. ⁴ Christ is your life, and when he shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory. ⁵ Mortify therefore your sensual appetites, fornication, impurity, irregular passions, wicked desires, and that licentiousness practised by idolaters.

¹⁰ then he that enters into divine rest, will indeed rest from his works, as God did from his.

³ for you should consider how he endured such opposition from sinners against himself, lest ye be tired out, and quite despond.

¹⁸ for Jesus Christ himself has already suffer'd for our sins, the innocent for the guilty, to bring us to God: who, tho' he died with respect to his body, was rais'd to life by that spirit,
