⁴⁰ And they shall confess their misdeeds and the misdeeds of their fathers; in their trespasses which they have trespassed against me, and for that also that they have walked contrary unto me.

⁷ then they shall knowledge their sins which they have done, and restore again the hurt that they have done in the whole, and put the fifth part of it more thereto, and give it unto him whom he hath trespassed against.

¹⁹ And Joshua said unto Achan, "My son, give glory to the LORD God of Israel, and give him praise, and show me what thou hast done, and hide it not from me."

²⁷ Such a respect hath he unto men. Therefore let a man confess, and say, 'I offended, but he hath chastened and reformed me: I did unrighteously nevertheless he hath not recompensed me thereafter. ²⁸ Yea, he hath delivered my soul from destruction, and my life, that it seeth the light.'

⁵ I will acknowledge my sin unto thee; and mine unrighteousness have I not hid. I said, "I will confess my sins unto the LORD." And so thou forgavest the wickedness of my sin. Selah.

¹³ He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper; but who so knowledgeth them and forsaketh them, shall have mercy.

²⁵ And I will pour pure water upon you, and ye shall be cleansed from all uncleanness, and from all your idols. I will cleanse you.

⁴ I prayed before the LORD my God, and knowledged, saying, "O LORD, thou great and fearful God, thou that keepest covenant and mercy with them which love thee, and do thy commandments:

¹¹ I baptise you in water in token of repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptise you with the holy ghost and with fire:

¹³ Then came Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptised of him. ¹⁴ But John forbad him, saying, "I ought to be baptised of thee, and comest thou to me?" ¹⁵ Jesus answered and said to him, "Let it be so now, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he suffered him. ¹⁶ And Jesus, as soon as he was baptized, came straight out of the water: And, lo, heaven was opened over him, and John saw the spirit of God descend, like a dove, and light upon him:

⁵ And all the land of Jewry, and they of Jerusalem went out unto him, and were all baptised of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁸ I have baptised you with water: but he shall baptise you with the holy ghost." ⁹ And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, and was baptised of John in Jordan.

¹⁶ John answered and said to them all, "I baptise you with water, but a stronger than I cometh after me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose: he will baptise you with the holy ghost, and with fire,

¹⁸ I will arise, and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee, ¹⁹ and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.' ²⁰ And he arose, and went to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran unto him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said unto him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy henceforth to be called thy son.'

²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, "Why baptisest thou then, if thou be not Christ, nor Elijah, neither a prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I baptise with water: but one is come among you, whom ye know not. ²⁷ He it is that cometh after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose." ²⁸ These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John did baptise.

³¹ and I knew him not: but that he should be declared to Israel, therefore am I come, baptising with water.'" ³² And John bare record, saying, "I saw the spirit descend from heaven, like unto a dove, and abide upon him, and I knew him not: ³³ But he that sent me to baptise in water, the same said unto me, 'Upon whom thou shalt see the spirit descend, and tarry still on him, the same is he which baptiseth with the holy ghost.'

²³ and John also baptised in Enon, besides Salim, because there was much water there, and they came, and were baptised. ²⁴ For John was not yet cast into prison. ²⁵ And there arose a question between John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.

⁵ For John baptised with water but ye shall be baptised with the holy ghost, and that within this few days."

³⁸ Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptised every one of of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the holy ghost. ³⁹ "For the promise was made unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar, even as many as the Lord God shall call." ⁴⁰ And with many other words bare he witness, and exhorted them saying, "Save yourselves from this untoward generation." ⁴¹ Then they that gladly received his preaching were baptised; And the same day, there were added unto them about a three thousand souls.

³⁶ Ye know the preaching that God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, which is Lord over all things; ³⁷ which preaching was published throughout all Jewry, and began in Galilee, after the baptism preached by John; ³⁸ How God had anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy ghost, and with power; which Jesus went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devils, for God was with him.

¹⁶ Then came to my remembrance the words of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with the holy ghost.'

⁴ Then said Paul, "John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him, which should come after him. That is on Christ Jesus." ⁵ When they heard that, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁸ And many that believed came, and confessed and showed their works.

¹⁶ And now: why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptised, and wash away thy sins, in calling on the name of the Lord.'

² and were all baptised under Moses in the cloud and in the sea:

¹² in that ye are buried with him through baptism, in whom ye are also risen again through faith, that is wrought by the operation of God which raised him from death.

⁵ not of the deeds of righteousness which we wrought, but of his mercy, he saved us, by the fountain of the new birth, and with the renewing of the holy ghost, ⁶ which he shed on us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our saviour;

² of baptism, of doctrine, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection from death, and of eternal judgment.

¹⁰ with meats only and drinks, and divers washings, and justifyings of the flesh, which were ordained until the time of reformation.

¹⁶ Knowledge your faults one to another: and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man availeth much, if it be fervent.

²¹ which signifieth baptism that now saveth us, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but in that a good conscience consenteth to God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

⁹ If we knowledge our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
