⁵ And they thought within themselves saying, "If we shall say. 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why then believed ye him not?'

¹⁵ John bare witness of him and cried, saying, "This was he of whom I spake, which though he came after me, went before me: for he was before me." ¹⁶ And of his fullness have all we received, even grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time. The only begotten son, which is in the father's bosom, hath declared him.

²⁵ And when John had fulfilled his course, he said, 'Whom ye think that I am? The same am I not, but behold there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.'
