⁴² And David himself saith in the book of the Psalms, 'The Lord said unto my Lord: Sit on my right hand,

¹ These be the last sayings of David. David the son of Jesse said: and the man which is lifted up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob and pleasant Psalmist of Israel said, ² "The spirit of the LORD spake in me, and his words were on my tongue.

¹ {A Psalm of David} The LORD said unto my LORD, "Sit thou on my righthand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

⁴³ He said unto them, "How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ 'The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand: till I make thine enemies thy footstool.' ⁴⁵ If David call him Lord: How is he then his son?"

³⁶ For David himself, inspired with the holy ghost, said, 'The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand till I make thine enemies thy foot stool.' ³⁷ Then David himself calleth him Lord, and by what means is he then his son?" And much people heard him gladly.

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, "These are the words, which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you: that all must be fulfilled which were written of me in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms."

²⁰ It is written in the book of psalms, 'His habitation be void, and no man be dwelling therein,' and, 'His bishoprick let another take.'

³⁴ For David is not ascended into heaven, but he said, ³⁵ 'The Lord said to my Lord sit on my right hand, until I make thy foes, thy footstool.'

³³ God hath now fulfilled unto us their children, in that he raised up Jesus again, even as it is written in the second psalm, 'Thou art my son, this same day begat I thee.' ³⁴ As concerning that he so raised him up from death, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, 'The holy promises made to David I will give them faithfully to you.' ³⁵ Wherefore he saith also in another place, 'Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy to see corruption.'

²⁵ For he must reign till he have put all his enemies under his feet.

¹³ Unto which of the angels said he at any time, "Sit on my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool?"

⁷ Wherefore, as the holy ghost saith, "Today if ye shall hear his voice,
