²⁰ And now I know well that thou shalt be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.

² Then Saul arose and went to the wilderness of Ziph, and three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, for to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

¹³ He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper; but who so knowledgeth them and forsaketh them, shall have mercy.

² saying, "Where is he that is born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the East and are come to worship him." ³ When Herod the king had heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And he gathered all the chief Priests and Scribes of the people, and asked of them where Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said unto him, "In Bethlehem in Jewry; for thus it is written by the Prophet, ⁶ 'And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Jewry, art not the least concerning the Princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come the captain, that shall govern my people Israel.'" ⁷ Then Herod privily called the wise men, and diligently enquired of them the time of the star that appeared, ⁸ and sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child. And when ye have found him, bring me word, that I may come and worship him also." ⁹ When they had heard the king, they departed; And, lo, the star, which they saw in the East, went before them, till it came and stood over the place where the child was. ¹⁰ When they saw the star they were marvelously glad; ¹¹ and went into the house, and found the child with Mary his mother, and knelt down, and worshipped him: and opened their treasures, and offered unto him gifts; gold, frankincense and myrrh. ¹² And after they were warned of God in a dream that they should not go again to Herod, they returned into their own country another way. ¹³ When they were departed, Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream saying,. "Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt, and abide there till I bring thee word: For Herod will seek the child to destroy him." ¹⁴ Then he arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt; ¹⁵ and was there unto the death of Herod: to fulfill that which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, which sayeth, "Out of Egypt have I called my son." ¹⁶ Then Herod, perceiving that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, as many as were two years old and under according to the time which he had diligently searched out of the wise men.

⁴⁰ and saying, "Thou that destroyest the temple of God, and buildest it in three days: save thyself. If thou be the son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ Likewise also the high priests, mocking him with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² "He saved others, himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel: let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

²⁹ And they that went by, railed on him: wagging their heads, and saying, "A wretch, that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days. ³⁰ Save thyself, and come down from the cross." ³¹ Likewise also mocked him the high priests among themselves with the scribes, and said, "He saved other men, himself he cannot save. ³² Let Christ the King of Israel now descend from the cross, that we may see and believe." And they that were crucified with him, checked him also.

¹² If, when I tell you earthly things, ye believe not: How should ye believe if I shall tell you of heavenly things?

¹⁰ The high priests therefore held a council that they might put Lazarus to death also, ¹¹ because that for his sake many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

¹⁶ saying, "What shall we do to these men? For a manifest sign is done by them, and is openly known to all them that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it: ¹⁷ But that it be noised no farther among the people, let us threaten and charge them that they speak henceforth to no man in this name." ¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them that in no wise they should speak or teach in the name of Jesus.

³ For we ourselves also were in times past, unwise, disobedient, deceived, in danger to lusts, and to divers manners of voluptuousness, living in maliciousness and envy, full of hate, hating one another.
