³ I have taken off my robe—must I put it back on? I have washed my feet—must I soil them again?

²⁸ Do not tell your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I will provide”—when you already have the means.

⁴ The slacker craves yet has nothing, but the soul of the diligent is fully satisfied.

⁵ When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

³⁸ Then Jesus said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.” ³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” ⁴⁰ Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter. ⁴¹ “Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” ⁴² A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass from Me unless I drink it, may Your will be done.” ⁴³ And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy.

⁷ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Do not bother me. My door is already shut, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’

²² For in my inner being I delight in God’s law. ²³ But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me.
