¹ When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. ² Suddenly a leper came and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” ³ Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ Then Jesus instructed him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift prescribed by Moses, as a testimony to them.” ⁵ When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came and pleaded with Him, ⁶ “Lord, my servant lies at home, paralyzed and in terrible agony.” ⁷ “I will go and heal him,” Jesus replied. ⁸ The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. ⁹ For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.” ¹⁰ When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those following Him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found even in Israel such great faith. ¹¹ I say to you that many will come from the east and the west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” ¹³ Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! As you have believed, so will it be done for you.” And his servant was healed at that very hour. ¹⁴ When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, He saw Peter’s mother-in-law sick in bed with a fever. ¹⁵ So He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve Him. ¹⁶ When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to Jesus, and He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. ¹⁷ This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took on our infirmities and carried our diseases.” ¹⁸ When Jesus saw large crowds around Him, He gave orders to cross to the other side of the sea. ¹⁹ And one of the scribes came to Him and said, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” ²⁰ Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” ²¹ Another of His disciples requested, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” ²² But Jesus told him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” ²³ When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. ²⁴ Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was engulfed by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping. ²⁵ Then the disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” ²⁶ “You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm. ²⁷ The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey Him!” ²⁸ When Jesus arrived on the other side in the region of the Gergesenes, He was met by two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. ²⁹ “What do You want with us, Jesus, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the appointed time?” ³⁰ In the distance a large herd of pigs was feeding. ³¹ So the demons begged Jesus, “If You drive us out, permit us to go off into the herd of pigs.” ³² “Go!” He told them. So they came out and went into the herd of pigs, and the whole herd of pigs rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the waters. ³³ Those tending the pigs ran off into the town and reported all this, including the account of the demon-possessed men. ³⁴ Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their region.

²⁵ The large crowds that followed Him came from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

¹⁸ When Jesus saw large crowds around Him, He gave orders to cross to the other side of the sea.

¹⁵ Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Large crowds followed Him, and He healed them all,

³⁰ Large crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the mute, the crippled, and many others, and laid them at Jesus' feet, and He healed them.

⁷ So Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from Galilee, Judea,

¹⁵ But the news about Jesus spread all the more, and great crowds came to hear Him and to be healed by Him of their sicknesses.

²⁵ Large crowds were now traveling with Jesus, and He turned and said to them, ²⁶ “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be My disciple. ²⁷ And whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.

⁴⁴ the man is diseased; he is unclean. The priest must pronounce him unclean because of the infection on his head. ⁴⁵ A diseased person must wear torn clothes and let his hair hang loose, and he must cover his mouth and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’ ⁴⁶ As long as he has the infection, he remains unclean. He must live alone in a place outside the camp.

² “Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone with a skin disease, anyone who has a bodily discharge, and anyone who is defiled by a dead body. ³ You must send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.”

¹⁰ As the cloud lifted from above the Tent, suddenly Miriam became leprous, white as snow. Aaron turned toward her, saw that she was leprous,

⁸ In cases of infectious skin diseases, be careful to diligently follow everything the Levitical priests instruct you. Be careful to do as I have commanded them. ⁹ Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the journey after you came out of Egypt.

³⁹ And I am weak this day, though anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!”

¹ Now Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man in his master’s sight and highly regarded, for through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. And he was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.

²⁷ Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and your descendants forever!” And as Gehazi left his presence, he was leprous—as white as snow.

³ Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate, and they said to one another, “Why just sit here until we die? ⁴ If we say, ‘Let us go into the city,’ we will die there from the famine in the city; but if we sit here, we will also die. So come now, let us go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they let us live, we will live; if they kill us, we will die.”

⁵ And the LORD afflicted the king with leprosy until the day he died, so that he lived in a separate house while his son Jotham had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.

¹⁹ Uzziah, with a censer in his hand to offer incense, was enraged. But while he raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the altar of incense, leprosy broke out on his forehead. ²⁰ When Azariah the chief priest and all the priests turned to him and saw his leprous forehead, they rushed him out. Indeed, he himself hurried to get out, because the LORD had afflicted him. ²¹ So King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. He lived in isolation, leprous and cut off from the house of the LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to govern the people of the land.

¹¹ On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

⁹ “All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.”

¹⁸ While Jesus was saying these things, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and place Your hand on her, and she will live.”

²⁸ After Jesus had entered the house, the blind men came to Him. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” He asked. “Yes, Lord,” they answered. ²⁹ Then He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you.”

⁸ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

⁵⁸ And He did not do many miracles there, because of their unbelief.

³³ Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”

²⁵ The woman came and knelt before Him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

²⁶ Then the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Master, have patience with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’

²⁰ Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and knelt down to make a request of Him.

⁶ While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper,

⁹ And as they were going to tell His disciples, suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came to Him, grasped His feet, and worshiped Him.

¹⁷ When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.

⁴⁰ Then a leper came to Jesus, begging on his knees: “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” ⁴¹ Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” ⁴² And when He had said this immediately the leprosy left him, and the man was cleansed. ⁴³ Jesus promptly sent him away with a stern warning: ⁴⁴ “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” ⁴⁵ But the man went out and openly began to proclaim and spread the news. Consequently, Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in solitary places. Yet people came to Him from every quarter.

⁶ When the man saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees before Him. ⁷ And he shouted in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God not to torture me!”

²² “It often throws him into the fire or into the water, trying to kill him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” ²³ “If You can believe!” said Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!” ²⁴ Immediately the boy’s father cried out with tears, “Lord, I do believe; help my unbelief!”

²⁷ And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet. Yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”

¹² While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell facedown and begged Him, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” ¹³ Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him. ¹⁴ “Do not tell anyone,” Jesus instructed him. “But go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”

¹² As He entered one of the villages, He was met by ten lepers. They stood at a distance ¹³ and raised their voices, shouting, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” ¹⁴ When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice. ¹⁶ He fell facedown at Jesus’ feet in thanksgiving to Him—and he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ “Were not all ten cleansed?” Jesus asked. “Where then are the other nine? ¹⁸ Was no one found except this foreigner to return and give glory to God?” ¹⁹ Then Jesus said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well!”

³⁸ “Lord, I believe,” he said. And he worshiped Jesus.

²⁵ As Peter was about to enter, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet to worship him.

²⁵ and so the secrets of his heart will be made known. So he will fall facedown and worship God, proclaiming, “God is truly among you!”

¹⁰ So I fell at his feet to worship him. But he told me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who rely on the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

⁸ And I am John, who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown me these things. ⁹ But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”

³ And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

¹¹ But Naaman went away angry, saying, “I thought that he would surely come out, stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the spot to cure my leprosy.

¹⁴ So Naaman went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored and became like that of a little child, and he was clean.

⁹ For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm.

⁴ Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: ⁵ The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.

⁴¹ Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!”

³⁹ Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence!” He commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm.

⁴¹ Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koumi!” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”

³⁴ And looking up to heaven, He sighed deeply and said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means, “Be opened!”).

²⁵ When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You mute and deaf spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.”

¹³ Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.

¹⁴ Then He went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. “Young man,” He said, “I tell you, get up!”

¹⁴ When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice.

²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom He wishes.

⁴³ After Jesus had said this, He called out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.

² “When someone has a swelling or rash or bright spot on his skin that could become an infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest. ³ The priest is to examine the infection on his skin, and if the hair in the infection has turned white and the sore appears to be deeper than the skin, it is a skin disease. After the priest examines him, he must pronounce him unclean. ⁴ If, however, the spot on his skin is white and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest shall isolate the infected person for seven days. ⁵ On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine him, and if he sees that the infection is unchanged and has not spread on the skin, the priest must isolate him for another seven days. ⁶ The priest will examine him again on the seventh day, and if the sore has faded and has not spread on the skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean; it is a rash. The person must wash his clothes and be clean. ⁷ But if the rash spreads further on his skin after he has shown himself to the priest for his cleansing, he must present himself again to the priest. ⁸ The priest will reexamine him, and if the rash has spread on the skin, the priest must pronounce him unclean; he has a skin disease. ⁹ When anyone develops a skin disease, he must be brought to the priest. ¹⁰ The priest will examine him, and if there is a white swelling on the skin that has turned the hair white, and there is raw flesh in the swelling, ¹¹ it is a chronic skin disease and the priest must pronounce him unclean. He need not isolate him, for he is unclean. ¹² But if the skin disease breaks out all over his skin so that it covers all the skin of the infected person from head to foot, as far as the priest can see, ¹³ the priest shall examine him, and if the disease has covered his entire body, he is to pronounce the infected person clean. Since it has all turned white, he is clean. ¹⁴ But whenever raw flesh appears on someone, he will be unclean. ¹⁵ When the priest sees the raw flesh, he must pronounce him unclean. The raw flesh is unclean; it is a skin disease. ¹⁶ But if the raw flesh changes and turns white, he must go to the priest. ¹⁷ The priest will reexamine him, and if the infection has turned white, the priest is to pronounce the infected person clean; then he is clean. ¹⁸ When a boil appears on someone’s skin and it heals, ¹⁹ and a white swelling or a reddish-white spot develops where the boil was, he must present himself to the priest. ²⁰ The priest shall examine it, and if it appears to be beneath the skin and the hair in it has turned white, the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased infection that has broken out in the boil. ²¹ But when the priest examines it, if there is no white hair in it, and it is not beneath the skin and has faded, the priest shall isolate him for seven days. ²² If it spreads any further on the skin, the priest must pronounce him unclean; it is an infection. ²³ But if the spot remains unchanged and does not spread, it is only the scar from the boil, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. ²⁴ When there is a burn on someone’s skin and the raw area of the burn becomes reddish-white or white, ²⁵ the priest must examine it. If the hair in the spot has turned white and the spot appears to be deeper than the skin, it is a disease that has broken out in the burn. The priest must pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased infection. ²⁶ But if the priest examines it and there is no white hair in the spot, and it is not beneath the skin but has faded, the priest shall isolate him for seven days. ²⁷ On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine him, and if it has spread further on the skin, the priest must pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased infection. ²⁸ But if the spot is unchanged and has not spread on the skin but has faded, it is a swelling from the burn, and the priest is to pronounce him clean; for it is only the scar from the burn. ²⁹ If a man or woman has an infection on the head or chin, ³⁰ the priest shall examine the infection, and if it appears to be deeper than the skin and the hair in it is yellow and thin, the priest must pronounce him unclean; it is a scaly outbreak, an infectious disease of the head or chin. ³¹ But if the priest examines the scaly infection and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and there is no black hair in it, the priest shall isolate the infected person for seven days. ³² On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine the infection, and if the scaly outbreak has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it, and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, ³³ then the person must shave himself except for the scaly area. Then the priest shall isolate him for another seven days. ³⁴ On the seventh day the priest shall examine the scaly outbreak, and if it has not spread on the skin and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, the priest is to pronounce him clean. He must wash his clothes, and he will be clean. ³⁵ If, however, the scaly outbreak spreads further on the skin after his cleansing, ³⁶ the priest is to examine him, and if the scaly outbreak has spread on the skin, the priest need not look for yellow hair; the person is unclean. ³⁷ If, however, in his sight the scaly outbreak is unchanged and black hair has grown in it, then it has healed. He is clean, and the priest is to pronounce him clean. ³⁸ When a man or a woman has white spots on the skin, ³⁹ the priest shall examine them, and if the spots are dull white, it is a harmless rash that has broken out on the skin; the person is clean. ⁴⁰ Now if a man loses his hair and is bald, he is still clean. ⁴¹ Or if his hairline recedes and he is bald on his forehead, he is still clean. ⁴² But if there is a reddish-white sore on the bald head or forehead, it is an infectious disease breaking out on it. ⁴³ The priest is to examine him, and if the swelling of the infection on his bald head or forehead is reddish-white like a skin disease,

² “This is the law for the one afflicted with a skin disease on the day of his cleansing, when he is brought to the priest. ³ The priest is to go outside the camp to examine him, and if the skin disease of the afflicted person has healed, ⁴ the priest shall order that two live clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop be brought for the one to be cleansed. ⁵ Then the priest shall command that one of the birds be slaughtered over fresh water in a clay pot. ⁶ And he is to take the live bird together with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop, and dip them into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water. ⁷ Seven times he shall sprinkle the one to be cleansed of the skin disease. Then he shall pronounce him clean and release the live bird into the open field. ⁸ The one being cleansed must wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and bathe with water; then he will be ceremonially clean. Afterward, he may enter the camp, but he must remain outside his tent for seven days. ⁹ On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair—his head, his beard, his eyebrows, and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean. ¹⁰ On the eighth day he is to bring two unblemished male lambs, an unblemished ewe lamb a year old, a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with olive oil, and one log of olive oil. ¹¹ The priest who performs the cleansing shall present the one to be cleansed, together with these offerings, before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. ¹² Then the priest is to take one of the male lambs and present it as a guilt offering, along with the log of olive oil; and he must wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. ¹³ Then he is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering and burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy. ¹⁴ The priest is to take some of the blood from the guilt offering and put it on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. ¹⁵ Then the priest shall take some of the log of olive oil, pour it into his left palm, ¹⁶ dip his right forefinger into the oil in his left palm, and sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD. ¹⁷ And the priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his palm on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering. ¹⁸ The rest of the oil in his palm, the priest is to put on the head of the one to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. ¹⁹ Then the priest is to sacrifice the sin offering and make atonement for the one to be cleansed from his uncleanness. After that, the priest shall slaughter the burnt offering ²⁰ and offer it on the altar, with the grain offering, to make atonement for him, and he will be clean. ²¹ If, however, the person is poor and cannot afford these offerings, he is to take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for him, along with a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of olive oil, ²² and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever he can afford, one to be a sin offering and the other a burnt offering. ²³ On the eighth day he is to bring them for his cleansing to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD. ²⁴ The priest shall take the lamb for the guilt offering, along with the log of olive oil, and wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. ²⁵ And after he slaughters the lamb for the guilt offering, the priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. ²⁶ Then the priest is to pour some of the oil into his left palm ²⁷ and sprinkle with his right forefinger some of the oil in his left palm seven times before the LORD. ²⁸ The priest shall also put some of the oil in his palm on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot—on the same places as the blood of the guilt offering. ²⁹ The rest of the oil in his palm, the priest is to put on the head of the one to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. ³⁰ Then he must sacrifice the turtledoves or young pigeons, whichever he can afford, ³¹ one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the LORD for the one to be cleansed. ³² This is the law for someone who has a skin disease and cannot afford the cost of his cleansing.”

⁷ When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and asked, “Am I God, killing and giving life, that this man expects me to cure a leper? Surely you can see that he is seeking a quarrel with me!” ⁸ Now when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king: “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let the man come to me, and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

²¹ The LORD was pleased, for the sake of His righteousness, to magnify His law and make it glorious.

¹⁵ “Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him.

¹⁷ Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.

¹ “Be careful not to perform your acts of charity before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this!”

¹⁸ On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

¹⁶ warning them not to make Him known. ¹⁷ This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ¹⁸ “Here is My Servant, whom I have chosen, My beloved, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will proclaim justice to the nations. ¹⁹ He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear His voice in the streets.

²⁰ Then He commanded His disciples not to tell anyone that He was Jesus the Christ.

⁹ As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Do not tell anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”

⁴³ Jesus promptly sent him away with a stern warning: ⁴⁴ “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”

⁴³ Then Jesus gave strict orders that no one should know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.

¹¹ If anyone will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that place, as a testimony against them. Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.”

³⁶ Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more He ordered them, the more widely they proclaimed it.

³⁰ And Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him.

⁹ So be on your guard. For you will be delivered over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.

¹⁴ “Do not tell anyone,” Jesus instructed him. “But go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”

¹⁴ When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed.

¹³ This will be your opportunity to serve as witnesses.

⁴¹ I do not accept glory from men,

¹⁸ He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a man of truth; in Him there is no falsehood.

⁵⁰ I do not seek My own glory. There is One who seeks it, and He is the Judge.

³⁷ If I am not doing the works of My Father, then do not believe Me. ³⁸ But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works themselves, so that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I am in Him.”

¹³ Leaving Nazareth, He went and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

¹ Jesus got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own town.

²³ And you, Capernaum, which is lifted up to heaven, will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

⁵⁴ When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

¹ A few days later Jesus went back to Capernaum. And when the people heard that He was home,

³⁹ When the centurion standing there in front of Jesus saw how He had cried out and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

¹ When Jesus had concluded His discourse in the hearing of the people, He went to Capernaum. ² There a highly valued servant of a centurion was sick and about to die. ³ When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to ask Him to come and heal his servant. ⁴ They came to Jesus and pleaded with Him earnestly, “This man is worthy to have You grant this, ⁵ for he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” ⁶ So Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. ⁷ That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to You. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. ⁸ For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.” ⁹ When Jesus heard this, He marveled at the centurion. Turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.” ¹⁰ And when the messengers returned to the house, they found the ailing servant in good health.

¹ At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was called the Italian Regiment. ² He and all his household were devout and God-fearing. He gave generously to the people and prayed to God regularly. ³ One day at about the ninth hour, he had a clear vision of an angel of God who came to him and said, “Cornelius!” ⁴ Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have ascended as a memorial offering before God. ⁵ Now send men to Joppa to call for Simon who is called Peter. ⁶ He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea.” ⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among his attendants. ⁸ He explained what had happened and sent them to Joppa. ⁹ The next day at about the sixth hour, as the men were approaching the city on their journey, Peter went up on the roof to pray. ¹⁰ He became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. ¹¹ He saw heaven open and something like a large sheet being let down to earth to him, bound at its four corners. ¹² It contained all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, and reptiles of the earth, as well as birds of the air. ¹³ Then a voice said to him: “Get up, Peter, kill and eat!” ¹⁴ “No, Lord!” Peter answered. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” ¹⁵ The voice spoke to him a second time: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” ¹⁶ This happened three times, and again the sheet was taken back up into heaven. ¹⁷ While Peter was puzzling over the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found Simon’s house and approached the gate. ¹⁸ They called out to ask if Simon called Peter was staying there. ¹⁹ As Peter continued to reflect on the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, men are looking for you. ²⁰ So get up! Go downstairs and accompany them without hesitation, because I have sent them.” ²¹ So Peter went down to the men and said, “Here am I, the one you are looking for. Why have you come?” ²² “Cornelius the centurion has sent us,” they said. “He is a righteous and God-fearing man with a good reputation among the whole Jewish nation. A holy angel instructed him to request your presence in his home so he could hear a message from you.” ²³ So Peter invited them in as his guests. And the next day he got ready and went with them, accompanied by some of the brothers from Joppa. ²⁴ The following day they arrived in Caesarea, where Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. ²⁵ As Peter was about to enter, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet to worship him. ²⁶ But Peter helped him up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.” ²⁷ As Peter talked with him, he went inside and found many people gathered together. ²⁸ He said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with a foreigner or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. ²⁹ So when I was invited, I came without objection. I ask, then, why have you sent for me?” ³⁰ Cornelius answered: “Four days ago I was in my house fasting and praying at this, the ninth hour. Suddenly a man in radiant clothing stood before me ³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your gifts to the poor have been remembered before God. ³² Therefore send to Joppa for Simon, who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, by the sea. He will speak to you when he arrives.’ ³³ So I sent for you immediately, and you were kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything God has instructed you to tell us.”

²⁵ But as they stretched him out to strap him down, Paul said to the centurion standing there, “Is it lawful for you to flog a Roman citizen without a trial?”

¹⁷ Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, “Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.”

²³ Then he called two of his centurions and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea in the third hour of the night.

¹³ When a gentle south wind began to blow, they thought they had their opportunity. So they weighed anchor and sailed along, hugging the coast of Crete.

³¹ But Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men remain with the ship, you cannot be saved.”

⁴³ But the centurion, wanting to spare Paul’s life, thwarted their plan. He commanded those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.

¹³ If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or maidservant when they made a complaint against me, ¹⁴ what will I do when God rises to judge? How will I answer when called to account?

²⁴ News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering acute pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed—and He healed them.

² Just then some men brought to Him a paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven you.”

³ Then a paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men. ⁴ Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the paralytic on his mat. ⁵ When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” ⁶ But some of the scribes were sitting there and thinking in their hearts, ⁷ “Why does this man speak such blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” ⁸ At once Jesus knew in His spirit that they were thinking this way within themselves. “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?” He asked. ⁹ “Which is easier: to say to a paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’? ¹⁰ But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” He said to the paralytic, ¹¹ “I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home.” ¹² And immediately the man got up, picked up his mat, and walked out in front of them all. As a result, they were all astounded and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

⁷ With loud shrieks, unclean spirits came out of many who were possessed, and many of the paralyzed and lame were healed.

³³ There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years.

⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among his attendants.

¹¹ Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all and is in all.

¹ Masters, supply your slaves with what is right and fair, since you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

² Those who have believing masters should not show disrespect because they are brothers, but should serve them all the more, since those receiving their good service are beloved believers. Teach and encourage these principles.

¹⁶ no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a beloved brother. He is especially beloved to me, but even more so to you, both in person and in the Lord.

¹⁸ While Jesus was saying these things, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and place Your hand on her, and she will live.” ¹⁹ So Jesus got up and went with him, along with His disciples.

²³ and pleaded with Him urgently, “My little daughter is near death. Please come and place Your hands on her, so that she will be healed and live.” ²⁴ So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd followed and pressed around Him.

⁶ So Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.

¹⁰ I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness You have shown Your servant. Indeed, with only my staff I came across the Jordan, but now I have become two camps.

⁸ “Take the staff and assemble the congregation. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will pour out its water. You will bring out water from the rock and provide drink for the congregation and their livestock.”

¹⁷ You have heard, O LORD, the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will incline Your ear,

²⁰ He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit.

¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

¹⁴ But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

³ Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

²⁶ But Jesus replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” ²⁷ “Yes, Lord,” she said, “even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

²⁵ But Jesus rebuked the spirit. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!” ²⁶ At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and came out, with a loud shriek. ²⁷ All the people were amazed and began to ask one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him!”

⁸ When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees. “Go away from me, Lord,” he said, “for I am a sinful man.”

⁶ So Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. ⁷ That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to You. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’

²¹ The son declared, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²⁷ He is the One who comes after me, who is preferred before me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

⁶ He came to Simon Peter, who asked Him, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?” ⁷ Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” ⁸ “Never shall You wash my feet!” Peter told Him. Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.”

³⁴ Can you command the clouds so that a flood of water covers you? ³⁵ Can you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?

²⁵ For He spoke and raised a tempest that lifted the waves of the sea. ²⁶ They mounted up to the heavens, then sunk to the depths; their courage melted in their anguish. ²⁷ They reeled and staggered like drunkards, and all their skill was useless. ²⁸ Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. ²⁹ He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed.

⁹¹ Your ordinances stand to this day, for all things are servants to You.

⁸ lightning and hail, snow and clouds, powerful wind fulfilling His word,

⁶ ‘Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still!’ ⁷ How can it rest when the LORD has commanded it? He has appointed it against Ashkelon and the shore of its coastland.”

¹⁷ Or if I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,’ so that I cut off from it both man and beast, ¹⁸ then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered. ¹⁹ Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out My wrath upon it through bloodshed, cutting off from it both man and beast, ²⁰ then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. Their righteousness could deliver only themselves. ²¹ For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem My four dire judgments—sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague—in order to cut off from it both man and beast?

³⁹ Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence!” He commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm. ⁴⁰ “Why are you so afraid?” He asked. “How do you still have no faith?” ⁴¹ Overwhelmed with fear, they asked one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”

³⁵ But Jesus rebuked the demon. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!” At this, the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without harming him. ³⁶ All the people were overcome with amazement and asked one another, “What is this message? With authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”

³⁹ and He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and began to serve them.

⁸ For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”

⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. ⁶ And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

²² Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of God.

⁹ Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

²⁸ “O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

⁶ And He was amazed at their unbelief. And He went around from village to village, teaching the people.

²⁰ When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

⁹ When Jesus heard this, He marveled at the centurion. Turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”

⁵⁰ And Jesus told the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

³ I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”

¹⁸ And through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

¹⁴ Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes and the allegiance of the nations is his.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before Him.

³ He has remembered His love and faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

² In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. ³ And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

¹⁰ On that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will seek Him, and His place of rest will be glorious.

⁶ He says: “It is not enough for You to be My Servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the protected ones of Israel. I will also make You a light for the nations, to bring My salvation to the ends of the earth.”

¹² Behold, they will come from far away, from the north and from the west, and from the land of Aswan.”

¹⁰ The LORD has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations; all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

¹⁹ So shall they fear the name of the LORD where the sun sets, and His glory where it rises. For He will come like a raging flood, driven by the breath of the LORD.

¹ Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. ² For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear over you. ³ Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. ⁴ Lift up your eyes and look around: They all gather and come to you; your sons will come from afar, and your daughters will be carried on the arm. ⁵ Then you will look and be radiant, and your heart will tremble and swell with joy, because the riches of the sea will be brought to you, and the wealth of the nations will come to you. ⁶ Caravans of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah, and all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.

¹⁹ O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress, the nations will come to You from the ends of the earth, and they will say, “Our fathers inherited nothing but lies, worthless idols of no benefit at all.

⁴⁴ In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will shatter all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself stand forever.

¹ In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it. ² And many nations will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

²⁰ This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Peoples will yet come—the residents of many cities— ²¹ and the residents of one city will go to another, saying: ‘Let us go at once to plead before the LORD and to seek the LORD of Hosts. I myself am going.’ ²² And many peoples and strong nations will come to seek the LORD of Hosts in Jerusalem and to plead before the LORD.” ²³ This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue will tightly grasp the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”

¹¹ For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of Hosts.

² and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

³¹ And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.

²⁸ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves are thrown out. ²⁹ People will come from east and west and north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.

²³ So the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. ²⁴ For I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will taste my banquet. For many are called, but few are chosen’”

²² One day the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. And the rich man also died and was buried.

⁴⁵ All the circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.

¹⁸ When they heard this, their objections were put to rest, and they glorified God, saying, “So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.”

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

²⁷ When they arrived, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them, and how He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

⁹ so that the Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.” ¹⁰ Again, it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.” ¹¹ And again: “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and extol Him, all you peoples.” ¹² And once more, Isaiah says: “The Root of Jesse will appear, One who will arise to rule over the Gentiles; in Him the Gentiles will put their hope.” ¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁹ Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts,

²⁰ But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you who are Gentiles in the flesh and called uncircumcised by the so-called circumcision (that done in the body by human hands)— ¹² remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. ¹⁴ For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has torn down the dividing wall of hostility

⁶ This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of His promise in Christ.

⁵ All this is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me. ²¹ To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

⁶ from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,

⁹ And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. ¹⁰ The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

²² Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ ²³ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’

³⁸ The field is the world, and the good seed represents the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,

⁴² And they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁵⁰ and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴³ Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

¹² ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless. ¹³ Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

⁵¹ Then he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

³⁰ And throw that worthless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

²⁸ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves are thrown out.

²⁵ And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with our fathers when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’

⁴ the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory and the covenants; theirs the giving of the law, the temple worship, and the promises.

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but cast them deep into hell, placing them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;

¹⁷ These men are springs without water and clouds driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is forever reserved for them.

¹³ They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

⁷ Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God has already approved your works:

⁴ Then Jesus instructed him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift prescribed by Moses, as a testimony to them.”

²² Jesus turned around and saw her. “Take courage, daughter,” He said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was cured from that very hour.

²⁹ Then He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you.” ³⁰ And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this!”

²⁰ “Because of your unbelief,” Jesus answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

²⁹ Then Jesus told her, “Because of this answer, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.”

²³ “If You can believe!” said Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!”

⁵⁰ “Go,” said Jesus. “Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at His word and departed.

⁵² So he inquired as to the hour when his son had recovered, and they told him, “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour.” ⁵³ Then the father realized that this was the very hour in which Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and all his household believed.

²⁰ Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”

²⁵ “Yes,” he answered. When Peter entered the house, Jesus preempted him. “What do you think, Simon?” He asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs and taxes: from their own sons, or from others?”

²⁹ As soon as Jesus and His companions had left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. ³⁰ Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they promptly told Jesus about her. ³¹ So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. Immediately the fever left her, and she began to serve them. ³² That evening, after sunset, people brought to Jesus all who were sick and demon-possessed, ³³ and the whole town gathered at the door. ³⁴ And He healed many who were ill with various diseases and drove out many demons. But He would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

³⁸ After Jesus had left the synagogue, He went to the home of Simon, whose mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. So they appealed to Jesus on her behalf, ³⁹ and He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and began to serve them. ⁴⁰ At sunset, all who were ill with various diseases were brought to Jesus, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them. ⁴¹ Demons also came out of many people, crying out, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” But He rebuked the demons and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ.

⁵ Have we no right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?

² An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

³ They will prohibit marriage and require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

⁴ Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.

²¹ Once, as the Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders, so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. And as soon as his body touched the bones of Elisha, the man was revived and stood up on his feet.

⁷ And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.”

²⁰ Suddenly a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak.

²⁹ Then He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you.”

³⁶ and begged Him just to let them touch the fringe of His cloak. And all who touched Him were healed.

³⁴ Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and at once they received their sight and followed Him.

³⁸ After Jesus had left the synagogue, He went to the home of Simon, whose mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. So they appealed to Jesus on her behalf, ³⁹ and He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and began to serve them.

⁵⁴ But Jesus sent them all outside, took her by the hand, and called out, “Child, get up!”

¹ Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, the hometown of Lazarus who had died, whom He had raised from the dead. ² So they hosted a dinner for Jesus there. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with Him. ³ Then Mary took about a pint of expensive perfume, made of pure nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

¹¹ God did extraordinary miracles through the hands of Paul, ¹² so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were brought to the sick, and the diseases and evil spirits left them. ¹³ Now there were some itinerant Jewish exorcists who tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits. They would say, “I bind you by Jesus, whom Paul proclaims.”

²⁶ saying, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”

²³ Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. ²⁴ News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering acute pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed—and He healed them.

³³ Those tending the pigs ran off into the town and reported all this, including the account of the demon-possessed men.

²² Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed the man so that the blind and mute man could both speak and see.

¹⁴ When Jesus stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick.

³ Then a paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men.

⁸ For Jesus had already declared, “Come out of this man, you unclean spirit!”

⁴⁰ At sunset, all who were ill with various diseases were brought to Jesus, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them.

¹⁵ As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.

¹³ Now there were some itinerant Jewish exorcists who tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits. They would say, “I bind you by Jesus, whom Paul proclaims.” ¹⁴ Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. ¹⁵ Eventually, one of the evil spirits answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” ¹⁶ Then the man with the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house naked and wounded.

⁴ Surely He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken by God, struck down and afflicted.

²² All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

¹⁵ where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

²³ and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.” ²⁴ He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. “By His stripes you are healed.”

¹ When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him.

²² Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds.

³⁵ Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and slipped out to a solitary place to pray. ³⁶ Simon and his companions went to look for Him, ³⁷ and when they found Him, they said, “Everyone is looking for You!” ³⁸ But Jesus answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns so I can preach there as well, for that is why I have come.”

³⁵ When that evening came, He said to His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side.”

²¹ When Jesus had again crossed by boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him beside the sea.

⁴⁵ Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to Bethsaida, while He dismissed the crowd.

¹³ And He left them, got back into the boat, and crossed to the other side.

⁴² At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving. ⁴³ But Jesus told them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well, because that is why I was sent.”

²² One day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side of the lake.” So He got into a boat with them and set out.

¹⁵ Then Jesus, realizing that they were about to come and make Him king by force, withdrew to a mountain by Himself.

⁶ this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted Ezra all his requests, for the hand of the LORD his God was upon him.

³² “Right, Teacher,” the scribe replied. “You have stated correctly that God is One and there is no other but Him, ³³ and to love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your soul and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, which is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” ³⁴ When Jesus saw that the man had answered wisely, He said, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to question Him any further.

⁵⁷ As they were walking along the road, someone said to Jesus, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” ⁵⁸ Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” ⁵⁹ Then He said to another man, “Follow Me.” The man replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” ⁶⁰ But Jesus told him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. You, however, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

³³ In the same way, any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple.

³³ “Lord,” said Peter, “I am ready to go with You even to prison and to death.” ³⁴ But Jesus replied, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

³⁶ “Lord, where are You going?” Simon Peter asked. Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow Me later.” ³⁷ “Lord,” said Peter, “why can’t I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.” ³⁸ “Will you lay down your life for Me?” Jesus replied. “Truly, truly, I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.

²⁰ Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my helper and deliverer; O my God, do not delay.

²⁹ But I am in pain and distress; let Your salvation protect me, O God.

³ Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she places her young near Your altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.

¹⁷ where the birds build their nests; the stork makes her home in the cypresses.

²² For I am poor and needy; my heart is wounded within me.

² He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no stately form or majesty to attract us, no beauty that we should desire Him. ³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their faces, He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

¹³ In my vision in the night I continued to watch, and I saw One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence.

⁸ For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

³² Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the one to come.

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

¹³ When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He questioned His disciples: “Who do people pronounce Me, the Son of Man, to be?”

²⁷ For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done.

²⁸ Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, in the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

⁷ And she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

¹² And this will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”

¹⁶ So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the Baby, who was lying in the manger.

³ Joanna the wife of Herod’s household manager Chuza, Susanna, and many others. These women were ministering to them out of their own means.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

¹¹ He must not go near any dead body; he must not defile himself, even for his father or mother. ¹² He must not leave or desecrate the sanctuary of his God, for the consecration of the anointing oil of his God is on him. I am the LORD.

⁶ Throughout the days of his separation to the LORD, he must not go near a dead body. ⁷ Even if his father or mother or brother or sister should die, he is not to defile himself, because the crown of consecration to his God is upon his head.

⁹ He said of his father and mother, ‘I do not consider them.’ He disregarded his brothers and did not know his own sons, for he kept Your word and maintained Your covenant. ¹⁰ He will teach Your ordinances to Jacob and Your law to Israel; he will set incense before You and whole burnt offerings on Your altar.

²⁰ So Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will follow you.” “Go on back,” Elijah replied, “for what have I done to you?” ²¹ So Elisha turned back from him, took his pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. With the oxen’s equipment, he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow and serve Elijah.

² that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.’”

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for the sake of My name will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.

⁵⁹ Then He said to another man, “Follow Me.” The man replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” ⁶⁰ But Jesus told him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. You, however, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” ⁶¹ Still another said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first let me bid farewell to my family.” ⁶² Then Jesus declared, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and then looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

¹⁶ So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” ²⁰ And at once they left their nets and followed Him. ²¹ Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. Jesus called them, ²² and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.

⁹ As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. “Follow Me,” He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.

³² But it was fitting to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

⁴³ The next day Jesus decided to set out for Galilee. Finding Philip, He told him, “Follow Me.”

¹ And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

⁵ made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved!

¹⁴ So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

¹³ When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses,

⁶ But she who lives for pleasure is dead even while she is still alive.

³⁶ After they had dismissed the crowd, they took Jesus with them, since He was already in the boat. And there were other little boats with Him. ³⁷ Soon a violent windstorm came up, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was being swamped. ³⁸ But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?”

²² So Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.

²² One day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side of the lake.” So He got into a boat with them and set out. ²³ As they sailed, He fell asleep, and a windstorm came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. ²⁴ The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and the raging waters, and they subsided, and all was calm. ²⁵ “Where is your faith?” He asked. Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!”

²³ Others went out to sea in ships, conducting trade on the mighty waters. ²⁴ They saw the works of the LORD, and His wonders in the deep. ²⁵ For He spoke and raised a tempest that lifted the waves of the sea. ²⁶ They mounted up to the heavens, then sunk to the depths; their courage melted in their anguish. ²⁷ They reeled and staggered like drunkards, and all their skill was useless.

¹¹ “O afflicted city, lashed by storms, without solace, surely I will set your stones in antimony and lay your foundations with sapphires.

⁴ Then the LORD hurled a great wind upon the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship was in danger of breaking apart. ⁵ The sailors were afraid, and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the ship’s cargo into the sea to lighten the load. But Jonah had gone down to the lowest part of the vessel, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.

³⁷ Soon a violent windstorm came up, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was being swamped. ³⁸ But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?”

²³ As they sailed, He fell asleep, and a windstorm came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

¹⁷ got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had not gone out to them. ¹⁸ A strong wind was blowing, and the sea grew agitated.

⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. ⁶ So on hearing that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was for two days,

¹⁵ and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”

¹⁴ But it was not long before a cyclone called the Northeaster swept down across the island. ¹⁵ Unable to head into the wind, the ship was caught up. So we gave way and let ourselves be driven along. ¹⁶ Passing to the lee of a small island called Clauda, we barely managed to secure the lifeboat. ¹⁷ After hoisting it up, the crew used ropes to undergird the ship. And fearing that they would run aground on the sandbars of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and were driven along. ¹⁸ We were tossed so violently that the next day the men began to jettison the cargo. ¹⁹ On the third day, we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands. ²⁰ When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the great storm continued to batter us, we abandoned all hope of being saved. ²¹ After the men had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have followed my advice not to sail from Crete. Then you would have averted this disaster and loss. ²² But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because you will not experience any loss of life, but only of the ship. ²³ For just last night an angel of God, whose I am and whom I serve, stood beside me ²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’ ²⁵ So take courage, men, for I believe God that it will happen just as He told me. ²⁶ However, we must run aground on some island.” ²⁷ On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic Sea. About midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. ²⁸ They took soundings and found that the water was twenty fathoms deep. Going a little farther, they took another set of soundings that read fifteen fathoms. ²⁹ Fearing that we would run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daybreak. ³⁰ Meanwhile, the sailors attempted to escape from the ship. Pretending to lower anchors from the bow, they let the lifeboat down into the sea. ³¹ But Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men remain with the ship, you cannot be saved.” ³² So the soldiers cut the ropes to the lifeboat and set it adrift. ³³ Right up to daybreak, Paul kept urging them all to eat: “Today is your fourteenth day in constant suspense, without taking any food. ³⁴ So for your own preservation, I urge you to eat something, because not a single hair of your head will be lost.” ³⁵ After he had said this, Paul took bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat. ³⁶ They were all encouraged and took some food themselves. ³⁷ In all, there were 276 of us on board. ³⁸ After the men had eaten their fill, they lightened the ship by throwing the grain into the sea.

²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I spent a night and a day in the open sea. ²⁶ In my frequent journeys, I have been in danger from rivers and from bandits, in danger from my countrymen and from the Gentiles, in danger in the city and in the country, in danger on the sea and among false brothers,

¹¹ Then Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere mortal prevail against You.”

¹² Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

¹ Why, O LORD, do You stand far off? Why do You hide in times of trouble?

²² Yet for Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. ²³ Wake up, O Lord! Why are You sleeping? Arise! Do not reject us forever.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD. Wake up as in days past, as in generations of old. Was it not You who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced through the dragon? ¹⁰ Was it not You who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea for the redeemed to cross over?

⁶ The captain approached him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call upon your God. Perhaps this God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”

³⁸ But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?” ³⁹ Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence!” He commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm.

²⁴ The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and the raging waters, and they subsided, and all was calm.

⁸ Who enclosed the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, ⁹ when I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its blanket, ¹⁰ when I fixed its boundaries and set in place its bars and doors, ¹¹ and I declared: ‘You may come this far, but no farther; here your proud waves must stop’?

⁷ You stilled the roaring of the seas, the pounding of their waves, and the tumult of the nations.

⁹ You rule the raging sea; when its waves mount up, You still them.

³ The floodwaters have risen, O LORD; the rivers have raised their voice; the seas lift up their pounding waves. ⁴ Above the roar of many waters—the mighty breakers of the sea—the LORD on high is majestic.

⁶ You covered it with the deep like a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At Your rebuke the waters fled; at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away— ⁸ the mountains rose and the valleys sank to the place You assigned for them— ⁹ You set a boundary they cannot cross, that they may never again cover the earth.

²⁸ Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. ²⁹ He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed. ³⁰ They rejoiced in the silence, and He guided them to the harbor they desired.

³ The sea observed and fled; the Jordan turned back; ⁴ the mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. ⁵ Why was it, O sea, that you fled, O Jordan, that you turned back, ⁶ O mountains, that you skipped like rams, O hills, like lambs? ⁷ Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

²⁸ when He established the clouds above, when the fountains of the deep gushed forth, ²⁹ when He set a boundary for the sea, so that the waters would not surpass His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness. ¹¹ Behold, all who rage against you will be ashamed and disgraced; those who contend with you will be reduced to nothing and will perish. ¹² You will seek them but will not find them. Those who wage war against you will come to nothing. ¹³ For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you. ¹⁴ Do not fear, O worm of Jacob, O few men of Israel. I will help you,” declares the LORD. “Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

² Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to redeem you? Or do I lack the strength to deliver you? Behold, My rebuke dries up the sea; I turn the rivers into a desert; the fish rot for lack of water and die of thirst. ³ I clothe the heavens in black and make sackcloth their covering.” ⁴ The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of discipleship, to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.

¹² who sent His glorious arm to lead them by the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to gain for Himself everlasting renown,

⁴ He rebukes the sea and dries it up; He makes all the rivers run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon wilts.

⁸ Were You angry at the rivers, O LORD? Was Your wrath against the streams? Did You rage against the sea when You rode on Your horses, on Your chariots of salvation?

³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

²⁷ The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey Him!”

³⁰ But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” ³¹ Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

⁸ Aware of their conversation, Jesus said to them, “You of little faith, why are you debating among yourselves about having brought no bread?

⁴⁸ He could see that the disciples were straining to row, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea. He intended to pass by them, ⁴⁹ but when they saw Him walking on the sea, they cried out, thinking He was a ghost— ⁵⁰ for they all saw Him and were terrified. But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” ⁵¹ Then He climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. And the disciples were utterly astounded beyond measure, and were marveling.

²⁰ Yet he did not waver through disbelief in the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,

³¹ The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.

²⁷ All the people were amazed and began to ask one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him!”

³⁷ The people were utterly astonished and said, “He has done all things well! He makes even the deaf hear and the mute speak!”

¹ When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—

⁶ In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were deserted and the travelers took the byways.

¹ On the other side of the sea, they arrived in the region of the Gadarenes. ² As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, He was met by a man with an unclean spirit, who was coming from the tombs. ³ This man had been living in the tombs and could no longer be restrained, even with chains. ⁴ Though he was often bound with chains and shackles, he had broken the chains and shattered the shackles. Now there was no one with the strength to subdue him. ⁵ Night and day in the mountains and in the tombs he kept crying out and cutting himself with stones. ⁶ When the man saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees before Him. ⁷ And he shouted in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God not to torture me!” ⁸ For Jesus had already declared, “Come out of this man, you unclean spirit!” ⁹ “What is your name?” Jesus asked. “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” ¹⁰ And he begged Jesus repeatedly not to send them out of that region. ¹¹ There on the nearby hillside a large herd of pigs was feeding. ¹² So all the demons begged Jesus, “Send us to the pigs, so that we may enter them.” ¹³ So Jesus immediately gave them permission, and the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the water. ¹⁴ Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. ¹⁵ When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons sitting there, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. ¹⁶ Those who had seen it described what had happened to the demon-possessed man and also to the pigs. ¹⁷ And the people began to beg Jesus to leave their region. ¹⁸ As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by the demons begged to go with Him. ¹⁹ But Jesus would not allow him. “Go home to your own people,” He said, “and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy He has shown you.” ²⁰ So the man went away and began to proclaim throughout the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone was amazed.

This man had not worn clothing or lived in a house, but he stayed in the tombs. ²⁸ When the man saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not to torture me!” ²⁹ For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and shackles, he had broken the chains and been driven by the demon into solitary places. ³⁰ “What is your name?” Jesus asked. “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. ³¹ And he kept begging Jesus not to order them to go into the Abyss. ³² There on the hillside a large herd of pigs was feeding. So the demons begged Jesus to let them enter the pigs, and He gave them permission. ³³ Then the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. ³⁴ When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside. ³⁵ So the people went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man whom the demons had left, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. ³⁶ Meanwhile, those who had seen it reported how the demon-possessed man had been healed. ³⁷ Then all the people of the region of the Gadarenes asked Jesus to depart from them, because great fear had taken hold of them. So He got into the boat and started back. ³⁸ The man whom the demons had left begged to go with Jesus. But Jesus sent him away, saying, ³⁹ “Return home and describe how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and proclaimed all over the town how much Jesus had done for him.

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

¹² Then Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites, saying, “What do you have against me that you have come to fight against my land?”

¹⁰ But the king replied, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he curses me because the LORD told him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why did you do this?’”

²² And David replied, “Sons of Zeruiah, what have I to do with you, that you should be my adversaries today? Should any man be put to death in Israel today? Am I not indeed aware that today I am king over Israel?”

¹⁸ “O man of God,” said the woman to Elijah, “what have you done to me? Have you come to remind me of my iniquity and cause the death of my son?”

⁴ Now what do you have against Me, O Tyre, Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you rendering against Me a recompense? If you retaliate against Me, I will swiftly and speedily return your recompense upon your heads.

³ The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

²⁴ “Let us alone! What do You want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

¹¹ And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!”

⁷ And he shouted in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God not to torture me!”

³⁴ “Ha! What do You want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

⁴¹ Demons also came out of many people, crying out, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” But He rebuked the demons and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ.

²⁸ When the man saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not to torture me!”

⁴ “Woman, why does this concern us?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

¹⁷ This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to us the way of salvation!”

¹⁹ You believe that God is one. Good for you! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

⁶ And the angels who did not stay within their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling—these He has kept in eternal chains under darkness, bound for judgment on that great day.

⁷ And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.

Indeed, they have chosen their own ways and delighted in their abominations.

¹⁰ Have You not placed a hedge on every side around him and his household and all that he owns? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. ¹¹ But stretch out Your hand and strike all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face.” ¹² “Very well,” said the LORD to Satan. “Everything he has is in your hands, but you must not lay a hand on the man himself.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD. ¹³ One day, while Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, ¹⁴ a messenger came and reported to Job: “While the oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, ¹⁵ the Sabeans swooped down and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!” ¹⁶ While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “The fire of God fell from heaven. It burned and consumed the sheep and the servants, and I alone have escaped to tell you!” ¹⁷ While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels, and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!” ¹⁸ While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, ¹⁹ when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

³ Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth like him, a man who is blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil. He still retains his integrity, even though you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.” ⁴ “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give up all he owns in exchange for his life. ⁵ But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse You to Your face.” ⁶ “Very well,” said the LORD to Satan. “He is in your hands, but you must spare his life.” ⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and infected Job with terrible boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. ⁸ And Job took a piece of broken pottery to scrape himself as he sat among the ashes.

¹³ So Jesus immediately gave them permission, and the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the water.

²³ He was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, took and put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross.

¹⁵ Eventually, one of the evil spirits answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” ¹⁶ Then the man with the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house naked and wounded. ¹⁷ This became known to all the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, and fear came over all of them. So the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.

²⁵ But now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us, and we will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.

⁴ So Samuel did what the LORD had said and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked, “Do you come in peace?”

¹⁷ When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?”

¹⁴ Yet they say to God: ‘Leave us alone! For we have no desire to know Your ways.

¹⁷ They said to God, ‘Depart from us. What can the Almighty do to us?’

²⁹ “What do You want with us, Jesus, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the appointed time?”

¹⁷ And the people began to beg Jesus to leave their region. ¹⁸ As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by the demons begged to go with Him.

³⁹ They came to appease them and led them out, requesting that they leave the city.
