⁷ Can you find out God by searching? Can you find out the Almighty to perfection?

⁶ know now that God has subverted me and has encompassed me with his net.

¹⁴ I have been plagued for all the day long and rebukes every morning.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors I am confounded.

¹³ I quieted myself until morning. As a lion, so he breaks all my bones. From day even to night will you make an end of me.

¹ I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. ² He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness and not in light. ³ Surely he turns his hand against me, again and again all the day. ⁴ He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones. ⁵ He has built against me and encompassed me with gall and travail. ⁶ He has made me to dwell in dark places, as those who have been dead of old.
⁷ He has walled me around, that I cannot go forth. He has made my chain heavy. ⁸ Yes, when I cry and call for help, he shuts out my prayer. ⁹ He has walled up my ways with hewn stone. He has made my paths crooked.
¹⁰ He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in concealed places. ¹¹ He has turned aside my ways and pulled me in pieces. He has made me desolate. ¹² He has bent his bow and set me as a mark for the arrow. ¹³ He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins. ¹⁴ I have become a laughing-stock to all my people and their song all the day.
¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness. He has sated me with wormwood. ¹⁶ He has also broken my teeth with gravel stones. He has covered me with ashes. ¹⁷ And you have removed my soul far off from peace. I forgot prosperity. ¹⁸ And I said, My strength has perished and my expectation from Jehovah.
¹⁹ Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ My soul still has them in remembrance and is bowed down within me.

¹¹ Now indeed all disciplining does not seem to be a thing of joy for the present, but of sorrow; now later it gives peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised because of it.

⁸ I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, Who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

²² And I saw no temple in it; for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
