¹ Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill-country of Ephraim. And his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. ² And he had two wives: the name of the one was Hannah and the name of the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. ³ And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah, were there.
⁴ And when the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters, portions, ⁵ but to Hannah he gave a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but Jehovah had shut up her womb.
⁶ And her rival provoked her greatly, to make her fret, because Jehovah had shut up her womb. ⁷ And as he did so year by year when she went up to the house of Jehovah, so she provoked her. Therefore she wept and did not eat. ⁸ And Elkanah her husband said to her, Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am not I better to you than ten sons?
⁹ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting upon his seat by the door-post of the temple of Jehovah. ¹⁰ And she was in bitterness of soul and prayed to Jehovah and wept much.
¹¹ And she vowed a vow and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid and remember me and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a male-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life and there will no razor come upon his head.
¹² And it happened, as she continued praying before Jehovah, that Eli noticed her mouth. ¹³ Now Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
¹⁴ And Eli said to her, How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you. ¹⁵ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah. ¹⁶ Count not your handmaid for a worthless woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation have I spoken until now.
¹⁷ Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him. ¹⁸ And she said, Let your handmaid find favor in your sight. So the woman went her way and ate and her countenance was no more sad.
¹⁹ And they rose up in the morning early and worshiped before Jehovah and returned and came to their house to Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife and Jehovah remembered her. ²⁰ And it happened, when the time came about, that Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of Jehovah.
²¹ And the man Elkanah and all his house, went up to offer to Jehovah the yearly sacrifice and his vow. ²² But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, Not until the child be weaned and then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah and abide there everlasting. ²³ And Elkanah her husband said to her, Do what seems good to you. Remain until you have weaned him, only Jehovah establish his word. So the woman remained and gave her son suck, until she weaned him.
²⁴ And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks and one ephah of meal and a jug of wine and brought him to the house of Jehovah in Shiloh and the child was young. ²⁵ And they killed the bullock and brought the child to Eli.
²⁶ And she said, Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Jehovah. ²⁷ I prayed for this child and Jehovah has given me my petition which I asked of him. ²⁸ Therefore also I have granted him to Jehovah; as long as he lives he is granted to Jehovah. And he worshiped Jehovah there.

¹⁷ And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, You are a great people and have great power. You will not have only one lot, ¹⁸ but the hill-country will be your, for though it is a forest, you will cut it down and the goings out of it will be your. For you will drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron and though they are strong.

³³ And Eleazar the son of Aaron died. And they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

⁵ And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And it was so, that, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, No,

¹ And there was a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, whose name was Micah.

¹ And it happened in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite traveling on the farther side of the hill-country of Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehem in Judah.

² And the name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. And they came into the country of Moab and continued there.

¹⁹ And they rose up in the morning early and worshiped before Jehovah and returned and came to their house to Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife and Jehovah remembered her.

⁵ When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, Come and let us return, lest my father leave off caring for the donkeys and be anxious for us.

¹² Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse. And he had eight sons and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.

²⁶ And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.

²⁵ And the sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth. ²⁶ As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah: Zophar his son and Nahath his son, ²⁷ Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son.

³⁴ the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,

⁵⁷ Now when it became evening, a rich man came from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also made himself a disciple to Jesus.

¹⁹ And Lamech took to him two wives. The name of the one was Adah and the name of the other was Zillah.

²³ And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, you*, the wives of Lamech, listen to my speech. For I have killed a man for wounding me and a young man for bruising me.

¹ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children. And she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. ² And Sarai said to Abram, Behold now, Jehovah has restrained me from bearing children. I beseech you, go in to my handmaid. Perhaps I will be built up from her. And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

²¹ And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren. And Jehovah was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

²³ And it happened in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to him. And he went in to her. ²⁴ And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.
²⁵ And it happened in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me? ²⁶ And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn. ²⁷ Fulfill the week of this one and we will also give you the other for the service which you will serve with me yet seven other years.
²⁸ And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. And he gave him Rachel his daughter as a wife. ²⁹ And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid.

³¹ And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

¹⁵ If a man has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated and they have borne him sons, both the beloved and the one hated and if the firstborn son be hers who was hated, ¹⁶ then it will be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit what he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the one hated, who is the firstborn. ¹⁷ But he will acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the one hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the firstborn is his.

³⁰ And Gideon had seventy sons fathered from his body, for he had many wives.

² And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah and his wife was barren and did not bear.

⁸ He says to them, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives for your hardness of heart, but from the beginning it has not become so.

⁷ And there was no child to them, insomuch as Elisabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in their days.

³⁶ And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, out of the tribe of Asher (she had advanced in many days, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

¹⁴ Three times you will keep a feast to me in the year.

¹⁷ Three times in the year all your males will appear before the lord Jehovah.

²³ Three times in the year all your males will appear before the lord Jehovah, the God of Israel.

⁵ But to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose out of all your* tribes, to put his name there, even to his habitation you* will seek and there you will come. ⁶ And there you* will bring your* burnt offerings and your* sacrifices and your* tithes and the heave offering of your* hand and your* vows and your* free-will offerings and the first-offspring of your* herd and of your* flock. ⁷ And there you* will eat before Jehovah your* God and you* will rejoice in all that you* put your* hand to, you* and your* households, in which Jehovah your God has blessed you.

¹¹ then it will happen that to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose to cause his name to dwell there, there you* will bring all that I command you*: your* burnt offerings and your* sacrifices, your* tithes and the heave offering of your* hand and all your* choice vows which you* vow to Jehovah.
¹² And you* will rejoice before Jehovah your* God, you* and your* sons and your* daughters and your* men-servants and your* maid-servants and the Levite who is within your* gates–inasmuch as he has no portion nor inheritance with you*.
¹³ Take heed to yourself that you offer not your burnt offerings in every place that you see, ¹⁴ but in the place which Jehovah will choose in one of your tribes. There you will offer your burnt offerings and there you will do all that I command you.

¹⁶ Three times in a year all your males will appear before Jehovah your God in the place which he will choose: in the feast of unleavened bread and in the feast of weeks and in the feast of tabernacles. And they will not appear before Jehovah empty.

¹ And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there and the land was subdued before them.

³¹ So they set up for them Micah's graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

⁹ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting upon his seat by the door-post of the temple of Jehovah.

²¹ And the man Elkanah and all his house, went up to offer to Jehovah the yearly sacrifice and his vow.

¹² Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know Jehovah. ¹³ And the custom of the priests with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand, ¹⁴ and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot. All that the fork brought up the priest took with it. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
¹⁵ And before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, for he will not have boiled flesh from you, but raw. ¹⁶ And if the man said to him, They will surely burn the fat first and then take as much as your soul desires, then he would say, No, but you will give it to me now and if not, I will take it by force.
¹⁷ And the sin of the young men was very great before Jehovah, for the men despised the offering of Jehovah.

³⁴ And this will be the sign to you, that will come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: In one day they will die, both of them.

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house everlasting, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse upon themselves and he did not restrain them.

⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹¹ And the ark of God was taken and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were killed.

¹⁷ And he who brought the news answered and said, Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. And your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead and the ark of God is taken.
¹⁸ And it happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from his seat backward by the side of the gate. And his neck broke and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

⁶⁰ so that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,

¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
¹³ And now, because you* have done all these works, says Jehovah. And I spoke to you*, rising up early and speaking, but you* heard not and I called you*, but you* answered not, ¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house, which is called by my name, in which you* trust and to the place which I gave to you* and to your* fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

⁴¹ And his parents were traveling every year to Jerusalem to the feast of the Passover.

⁴ and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, which is by the loins and the lobe of the liver, with the kidneys.

¹⁵ And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving will be eaten on the day of his oblation; he will not leave any of it until the morning.

¹⁷ You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain, or of your new wine, or of your oil, or the first-offspring of your herd or of your flock, nor any of your vows which you vow, nor your free-will offerings, nor the heave offering of your hand. ¹⁸ But you will eat them before Jehovah your God in the place which Jehovah your God will choose, you and your son and your daughter and your man-servant and your maid-servant and the Levite who is within your gates. And you will rejoice before Jehovah your God in all that you put your hand to.

¹¹ And you will rejoice before Jehovah your God, you and your son and your daughter and your man-servant and your maid-servant and the Levite who is within your gates and the traveler and the fatherless and the widow, who are in the midst of you, in the place which Jehovah your God will choose to cause his name to dwell there,

¹ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children. And she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

¹⁸ For Jehovah had closed up fast all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

³⁰ And he also went in to Rachel and also he loved Rachel more than Leah and served with him yet seven other years.

³¹ And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

² And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel and he said, Am I in God's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?

³⁴ And he took and sent portions to them from before him, but Benjamin's portion was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank and were merry with him.

²² He gave to all of them, each man, changes of garments, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of garments.

¹⁵ If a man has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated and they have borne him sons, both the beloved and the one hated and if the firstborn son be hers who was hated,

¹⁸ And you will not take a wife in addition to her sister, to be a rival to her, to uncover her nakedness, besides the other in her life-time.

¹⁴ To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be from his friend, even to him who forsakes the fear of the Almighty.

²¹ He devours the barren who do not bear and does no good to the widow.

¹⁹ Moreover his mother made him a little robe and brought it to him from year to year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

¹⁵ And he will be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.

¹⁶ David therefore besought God for the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night upon the ground. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, and stood beside him, to raise him up from the ground, but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

¹² And Hazael said, Why do you weep my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that you will do to the sons of Israel: their strongholds you will set on fire and their young men you will kill with the sword and will dash in pieces their little ones and rip up their women with child.

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy and I will praise you upon the harp, O God, my God.

¹ Sing, O barren, you who did not bear. Break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who did not travail with child. For more are the sons of the desolate than the sons of the married woman, says Jehovah.

⁶ For Jehovah has called you as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God.

¹³ And they say to her, Woman, why are you weeping?
She says to them, They took my Lord and I do not know where they have laid him.

¹⁵ Jesus says to her, Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?
That woman, thinking that it is the gardener, says to him, Lord, if you bore him away from here, tell me where you have laid him and I will take him.

¹⁴ But brethren, we encourage you : admonish the disorderly, console the fainthearted, hold up the weak, have patience toward all.

³ and the lamp of God was not yet gone out and Samuel was laid down in the temple of Jehovah where the ark of God was,

¹⁵ And Samuel lay until the morning and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel was afraid to show Eli the vision.

² that the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains.

⁷ But as for me, in the abundance of your loving kindness I will come into your house. I will worship toward your holy temple in your fear.

⁴ One thing I have asked of Jehovah, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of Jehovah and to inquire in his temple.

⁹ The voice of Jehovah makes the female-deers to birth-calves and strips the forests bare. And in his temple everything says, Glory.

¹⁰ And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan. And there they lamented with a very great and sore lamentation. And he made a mourning for his father seven days.

² And the people came to Bethel and sat there till evening before God and lifted up their voices and wept bitterly.

²⁰ And she said to them, Call me not Naomi. Call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

³⁶ And it happened, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came and lifted up their voice and wept. And the king also and all his servants wept very much.

⁸ Hushai said moreover, You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men and they are chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. And your father is a man of war and will not lodge with the people.

³ Remember now, O Jehovah, I beseech you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart and have done what is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept greatly.

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ He will not allow me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

¹ My soul is weary of my life. I will give free reign to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.

¹⁵ What shall I say? He has both spoken to me and himself has done it. I will go softly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁷ But if you* will not hear it, my soul will weep in secret for your* pride. And my eye will weep greatly and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is taken captive.

¹⁰ Weep you* not for him who is dead, nor sympathize with him. But weep greatly for him who goes away, for he will return no more, nor see his native country.

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness. He has sated me with wormwood.

⁴⁴ And having become in agony, he was praying more intensely, and his sweat became like thick drops of blood going down upon the soil.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, has offered up both prayers and supplications with a strong outcry and tears to the one who was able to save him from death and having been heard from his piety.

¹ And God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth and the waters subsided.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and garments to put on,

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son and she called his name Reuben. For she said, Because Jehovah has looked upon my affliction, because now my husband will love me.

²² And God remembered Rachel. And God listened to her and opened her womb.

³¹ And the people believed. And when they heard that Jehovah had visited the sons of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

⁵ All the days of his vow of separation there will no razor come upon his head. Until the days be fulfilled, in which he separates himself to Jehovah, he will be holy. He will let the locks of the hair of his head grow long.

⁸ All the days of his separation he is holy to Jehovah.

¹¹ And the priest will offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering and make atonement for him, because he sinned by reason of the dead and will sanctify his head that same day.

² And Israel vowed a vow to Jehovah and said, If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

³ Also when a woman vows a vow to Jehovah and binds herself by a bond, being in her father's house, in her youth, ⁴ and her father hears her vow and her bond with which she has bound her soul and her father remains silent at her, then all her vows will stand and every bond with which she has bound her soul will stand. ⁵ But if her father disallows her in the day that he hears, none of her vows, or of her bonds with which she has bound her soul, will stand. And Jehovah will forgive her, because her father disallowed her.
⁶ And if she is married to a husband, while her vows are upon her, or the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul, ⁷ and her husband hears it and remains silent at her in the day that he hears it, then her vows will stand and her bonds with which she has bound her soul will stand. ⁸ But if her husband disallows her in the day that he hears it, then he will make void her vow which is upon her and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul. And Jehovah will forgive her.

³⁰ And Jephthah vowed a vow to Jehovah and said, If you will indeed deliver the sons of Ammon into my hand,

⁵ for behold, you will conceive and bear a son. And no razor will come upon his head, for the child will be a Nazirite to God from the womb. And he will begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

¹² It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done to me and that Jehovah will reward me good for his cursing of me this day.

¹⁸ Consider my affliction and my travail and forgive all my sins.

¹ Jehovah, remember for David all his affliction, ² how he swore to Jehovah and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

⁴ When you vow a vow to God, defer not to pay it, because he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.

⁸ I say to you, Even if he will not rise and will be giving to him because he is his friend, yet because of his irreverence, having arisen, he will be giving him as many as he needs.


⁹ And I say to you, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will be finding; knock and it will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks, receives; and he who is seeking, finds; and to the one who knocks, it will be opened.

¹ Now he also spoke a parable to them, to show that it is essential for them to always pray, and not to be depressed;

¹⁸ through all prayer and supplication praying in all seasons in the Spirit and watching in this same thing in all perseverance and supplication concerning all the holy-ones.

² Persevere in your prayer, watching in it in thanksgiving;

¹⁷ Pray constantly.

¹⁶ Therefore confess your trespasses to one another, and pray on behalf of one another, that you may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man prevails; much in its working.

⁴² And I came this day to the fountain and said, O Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, I pray, if you will, prosper the way on which I am now going, ⁴³ behold, I am standing by the fountain of water and let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, I beseech you, give me a little water from your pitcher to drink, ⁴⁴ and she will say to me, Both drink you and I will also draw for your camels, let her be the woman whom Jehovah has appointed for my master's son.
⁴⁵ And before I was done speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. And she went down to the fountain and drew. And I said to her, Let me drink, I beseech you.

⁴ Then the king said to me, For what do you make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.

¹ To you, O Jehovah, I lift up my soul.

¹⁵ Jehovah of hosts will defend them. And they will devour and will tread down the sling-stones. And they will drink and make a noise as through wine and they will be filled like bowls, like the corners of the altar.

¹³ But others sneering, were saying, They are full of new-wine.

²⁶ Now likewise, the Spirit is also jointly helping our weaknesses; for we do not know what we are praying for, that is according to what is essential for us; but the Spirit himself is petitioning on our behalf with unspeakable groans;

⁷ It is forbearing all things, is believing all things, is hoping for all things, is enduring all things.

¹² And when the sons of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the sons of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war. ¹³ And the sons of Israel sent Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, ¹⁴ and with him ten rulers, one ruler of a fathers' house for each of the tribes of Israel. And they were each man of them head of their fathers' houses among the thousands of Israel.
¹⁵ And they came to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead and they spoke with them, saying, ¹⁶ Thus says the whole congregation of Jehovah, What trespass is this that you* have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Jehovah, in that you* have built for you* an altar, to rebel this day against Jehovah?
¹⁷ Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although there came a plague upon the congregation of Jehovah, ¹⁸ that you* must turn away this day from following Jehovah? And it will be, seeing you* rebel today against Jehovah, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
¹⁹ However, if the land of your* possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of Jehovah, in which Jehovah's tabernacle dwells and take possession among us, but do not rebel against Jehovah, nor rebel against us, in building for you* an altar besides the altar of Jehovah our God. ²⁰ Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in what was set apart and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.

² How long will you speak these things? And how long will the words of your mouth be like a mighty wind?

¹⁴ if wickedness is in your hand, put it far away and do not let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

³ How long will you* set upon a man, that you* may kill, all of you*, like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?

²⁴ Put away from you a wayward mouth and put perverse lips far from you.

⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

¹ Do not judge, in order that you might not be judged! ² For in what judgment you judge, you will be judged and in what measure you measure, it will be measured to you. ³ And why are you looking at the speck, the one in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the beam in your own eye?

²⁵ Hence, placing all the lying away from yourselves, speak, each one the truth with his neighbor, because we are members of one another.

³¹ Let all bitterness and fury and anger and outcrying and blasphemy, together with all malice, be taken away from you;

¹⁶ And now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold upon me.

⁴ These things I remember and pour out my soul within me, because I went with the crowd and led them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holy day.

⁸ Trust in him at all times, you* the people. Pour out your* heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.

² I pour out my complaint before him. I show my trouble before him.
³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, you knew my path. In the way in which I walk they have hidden a snare for me.

⁶ I spread forth my hands to you. My soul is as a weary land for you. Selah.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath, but a grievous word stirs up anger.

¹⁵ A ruler is persuaded by long-suffering and a soft tongue breaks the bone.

¹⁹ Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches. Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young sons, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.

¹³ Certain worthless fellows have gone out from the midst of you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you* have not known,

¹² Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know Jehovah.

²⁷ But certain worthless fellows said, How will this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

²⁵ I beseech you, do not let my lord regard this worthless fellow, even Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name and senselessness is with him. But I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord whom you sent.

² O that my grief were but weighed and all my calamity laid in the balances! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas. Therefore my words have been rash.

¹ My soul is weary of my life. I will give free reign to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say to God, Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you, being evil, able to speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth is speaking. ³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure is casting out good things and the evil man out of his evil treasure is casting out evil things.

⁶ And the priest said to them, Go in peace. Your* way is before Jehovah in which you* go.

³⁵ So David received from her hand what she had brought him. And he said to her, Go up in peace to your house. See, I have listened to your voice and have accepted your person.

⁷ Therefore now return and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines.

¹⁹ And he said to him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

¹⁰ And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my border and that your hand might be with me and that you would keep me from evil, that it not be to my sorrow! And God granted him what he requested.

³ remember all your offerings and accept your burnt-sacrifice (Selah), ⁴ grant your heart's desire and fulfill all your counsel.
⁵ We will triumph in your salvation and in the name of our God we will set up our banners. Jehovah fulfill all your petitions.

³⁴ And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace and be healthy from your disorder.

⁵⁰ But he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you. Travel in peace.

⁴⁸ Now he said to her, Have courage daughter, your faith has saved you; travel in peace.

⁵ And I have oxen and donkeys, flocks and men-servants and maid-servants. And I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.

⁸ And he said, What do you mean by all this company which I met? And he said, To find favor in the sight of my lord.

¹⁵ And Esau said, Let me now leave with you some of the folks that are with me. And he said, What need is it? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.

¹³ Then she said, Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me and because you have spoken kindly to your handmaid, though I am not as one of your handmaidens.

⁷ Go your way, eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a merry heart, because God has already accepted your works.

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, in order that your joy may be fulfilled.

¹³ Now the God of hope may fill you with all joy and peace in the believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁶ Be anxious in nothing, but in everything, let your requests be made known to God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. ⁷ And the peace of God, which is superior to all perception, will be guarding your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

¹ And the man knew Eve his wife and she conceived and bore Cain and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah.

¹ And Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said and Jehovah did to Sarah as he had spoken.

¹ Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill-country of Ephraim. And his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid and remember me and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a male-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life and there will no razor come upon his head.

¹¹ And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house and the child ministered to Jehovah before Eli the priest.

²⁶ And they arose early. And it happened about the dawning of the day, that Samuel called to Saul on the housetop, saying, Up, that I may send you away. And Saul arose and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.

³ O Jehovah, in the morning you will hear my voice. I will direct to you and will keep watch in the morning.

⁷ Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. According to your loving kindness you remember me, for your goodness' sake, O Jehovah.

¹⁷ Evening and morning and at noonday, I will complain and moan. And he will hear my voice.

¹⁴⁷ I anticipated the dawning of the morning and cried. I hoped in your words.

²³ who remembered us in our low estate, for his loving kindness is everlasting,

³⁵ And exceedingly early, having risen up in the morning, while yet at night, he came out and went away into a desolate place, and he was praying there.

⁴² And he said, Jesus, remember me Lord, whenever you come in your kingdom.

²⁵ And Adam knew his wife again and she bore a son and called his name Seth. For, she said, God has appointed for me another seed instead of Abel, because Cain killed him.

²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, This one will comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, because of the ground which Jehovah has cursed.

¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah said to her, Behold, you are with child and will bear a son and you will call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah has heard your affliction.

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son and she called his name Reuben. For she said, Because Jehovah has looked upon my affliction, because now my husband will love me.
³³ And she conceived again and bore a son and said, Because Jehovah has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also. And she called his name Simeon.
³⁴ And she conceived again and bore a son and said, Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons. Therefore his name was called Levi.
³⁵ And she conceived again and bore a son. And she said, This time I will praise Jehovah. Therefore she called his name Judah. And she left off bearing.

⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged me and has also heard my voice and has given me a son. Therefore she called his name Dan.
⁷ And Bilhah Rachel's handmaid conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. ⁸ And Rachel said, With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister and I have indeed prevailed. And she called his name Naphtali.
⁹ When Leah saw that she had left off bearing, she took Zilpah her handmaid and gave her to Jacob as a wife. ¹⁰ And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bore Jacob a son. ¹¹ And Leah said, Good-fortune! And she called his name Gad.
¹² And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bore Jacob a second son. ¹³ And Leah said, I am fortunate! For the daughters will call me fortunate. And she called his name Asher.
¹⁴ And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and found love-apples in the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, I beseech you, give me from your son's love-apples.
¹⁵ And she said to her, Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? And would you take away my son's love-apples also?
And Rachel said, Therefore he may lie with you tonight for your son's love-apples.
¹⁶ And Jacob came from the field in the evening and Leah went out to meet him and said, You must come in to me, because I have surely hired you with my son's love-apples. And he lay with her that night.
¹⁷ And God listened to Leah and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. ¹⁸ And Leah said, God has given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband. And she called his name Issachar.
¹⁹ And Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob. ²⁰ And Leah said, God has endowed me with a good endowment. Now my husband will dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons. And she called his name Zebulun.
²¹ And afterwards she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, because God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house. ⁵² And the name of the second he called Ephraim, because God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.

¹⁰ And the child grew and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. And she called his name Moses and said, Because I drew him out of the water.

²² And she bore a son and he called his name Gershom, because he said, I have been a traveler in a foreign land.

²¹ Now she will be bearing a son, and you will call his name Jesus, for he will be saving his people from their sins.

¹⁹ For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice, to the end that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham what he has spoken of him.

¹¹ then it will happen that to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose to cause his name to dwell there, there you* will bring all that I command you*: your* burnt offerings and your* sacrifices, your* tithes and the heave offering of your* hand and all your* choice vows which you* vow to Jehovah.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil to you* to serve Jehovah, choose you* this day whom you* will serve: whether the gods which your* fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you* dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

³ And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah, were there.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

⁶ then his master will bring him to God and will bring him to the door, or to the door-post and his master will bore his ear through with an awl and he will serve him everlasting.

²³ And the land will not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine. For you* are strangers and travelers with me.

⁷ Then you* will say to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones will be for a memorial to the sons of Israel everlasting.

²⁸ Therefore also I have granted him to Jehovah; as long as he lives he is granted to Jehovah. And he worshiped Jehovah there.

¹⁸ But Samuel ministered before Jehovah, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

¹ And the child Samuel served Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.

⁶ Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of Jehovah forever.

⁴ Jehovah has sworn and will not repent. You are a everlasting priest after the order of Melchizedek.

⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from hereafter until everlasting. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

²² And when the days of their cleansing according to the Law of Moses were fulfilled, they led him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

⁴¹ And his parents were traveling every year to Jerusalem to the feast of the Passover. ⁴² And when he became twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast;

⁷ And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah should nurse sons? For I have borne him a son in his old age.

⁸ And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

⁷ and her husband hears it and remains silent at her in the day that he hears it, then her vows will stand and her bonds with which she has bound her soul will stand. ⁸ But if her husband disallows her in the day that he hears it, then he will make void her vow which is upon her and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul. And Jehovah will forgive her. ⁹ But the vow of a widow, or of her who is divorced, even everything with which she has bound her soul will stand against her.
¹⁰ And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband heard it and remained silent at her and did not disallow her, then all her vows will stand and every bond with which she bound her soul will stand.

¹⁷ Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.

²⁵ And now, O Jehovah God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house, confirm it until everlasting and do as you have spoken.

⁹ Because you are he who took me out of the womb. You made me trust upon my mother's breasts.

²⁶ who confirms the word of his servant and performs the counsel of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, She will be inhabited and of the cities of Judah, They will be built and I will raise up the waste places of it,

¹⁹ But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing in those days!

²⁷ Now it happened, while he said these things, a certain woman out of the crowd lifted up her voice and said to him, The womb bearing you, and the breasts which you nursed, are fortunate.

⁹ then he will offer with the bullock a meal offering of three tenth parts of an ephah of fine flour mingled with half a hin of oil. ¹⁰ And you will offer for the drink offering half a hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma to Jehovah.

⁵ But to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose out of all your* tribes, to put his name there, even to his habitation you* will seek and there you will come. ⁶ And there you* will bring your* burnt offerings and your* sacrifices and your* tithes and the heave offering of your* hand and your* vows and your* free-will offerings and the first-offspring of your* herd and of your* flock.

³ And when the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has Jehovah struck us today before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us and save us out of the hand of our enemies.
⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁵ Now they were also bringing to him their babies, in order that he might touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus, having called them to him, said, Allow the little children to come to me and do not forbid them; for the kingdom of God is for such.

¹⁵ By this you* will be proved; by the life of Pharaoh you* will not go forth from here unless your* youngest brother comes here.

⁵⁵ And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As your soul lives, O king, I cannot tell.

³ And David swore moreover and said, Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes and he says, Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he is grieved. But truly as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.

¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark and Israel and Judah, abide in booths and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.

¹⁹ And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?
And the woman answered and said, As your soul lives, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken, for your servant Joab, he commanded me and he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid.

² And Elijah said to Elisha, I beseech you, remain here for Jehovah has sent me as far as Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel.

⁴ And Elijah said to him, Elisha, I beseech you, remain here because Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho.

⁶ And Elijah said to him, I beseech you, remain here because Jehovah has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And the two went on.

³⁰ And the mother of the child said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And he arose and followed her.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid and remember me and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a male-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life and there will no razor come upon his head.
¹² And it happened, as she continued praying before Jehovah, that Eli noticed her mouth. ¹³ Now Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

⁹ Jehovah has heard my supplication. Jehovah will receive my prayer.

¹⁹ But truly God has heard. He has attended to the voice of my prayer.
²⁰ Kneel to God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor his loving kindness from me.

¹ I love Jehovah because he hears my voice and my supplications. ² Because he has inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call as long as I live.
³ The cords of death encompassed me and the pains of Sheol found me. I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called upon the name of Jehovah. O Jehovah, I beseech you, deliver my soul.
⁵ Gracious is Jehovah and righteous. Yes, our God is merciful.

⁵ I called upon Jehovah out of my distress. Jehovah answered me upon a large place.

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will be finding; knock and it will be opened to you.

¹⁵ and if we know that he hears us whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from him.

²⁶ And the man bowed his head and worshiped Jehovah.

⁴⁸ And I bowed my head and worshiped Jehovah and blessed Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son.

⁵² And it happened, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth to Jehovah.

²² But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, Not until the child be weaned and then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah and abide there everlasting.

¹⁵ And you have known, that from a baby, the sacred Scriptures which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
