Matthew 16 Cross References - MLV

1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, testing him, and asked him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 But having answered, he said to them, When it becomes evening, you say, It will be fair-weather; for the heaven is red. 3 And in the morning, There will be a storm today; for the heaven is red and dismal. Hypocrites! You indeed know how to discern the face of the heaven, but you are not able to discern the signs of the times. 4 An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign, and no sign will be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet. And he left them and went away.
5 And his disciples came to the area beyond-that, and forgot to take bread. 6 Now Jesus said to them, Behold and take-heed, stay away from the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees!
7 Now they were reasoning among themselves, saying, It is because we took no bread.
8 Now Jesus having known it, said to them, You of small faith, why are you reasoning among yourselves, because you took no bread? 9 Do you not yet perceive, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up? 10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up? 11 How is it that you do not perceive that I did not speak to you concerning bread, but to take-heed, stay away from the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? 12 Then they understood that he did not say to take-heed, stay away from the leaven of bread, but stay away from the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

15 He says to them, But who do you say that I am?
16 Now Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said to him, You are fortunate, Simon, Son of Jonah, because flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father, the one in the heavens. 18 But I also say to you, that you are {F} Peter and upon this, the rock, I will be building my congregation of believers, and the gates of Hades will not be prevailing against her. 19 I will be giving to you the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever you bind upon the earth will have already been bound in the heavens, and whatever you loose upon the earth will have already been loosed in the heavens. 20 Then he ordered the disciples in order that they should speak to no one that he was Jesus, the Christ.

{Footnotes: Mat 16:18, these words are different in Greek. Peter translated is a ‘pebble’and the other word is ‘rock’as in ‘a massive rock or rock foundation,’the kind of rock that the wise man built his house on in Mat 7:24-25.}

21 Jesus began to show to his disciples from then on, that it is essential for him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders and high-priests and scribes, and to be killed, and to arise in the third day. 22 And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, God will be lenient to you, Lord. This will never be happening to you.
23 But he turned and said to Peter, Go behind me, adversary! You are an offense to me, because you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone is willing to come after me, let him deny himself and lift up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life, will be losing it, and whoever loses his life because of me will be finding it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and should forfeit his soul? Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his messengers, and then he will be giving to each one according to his practice. 28 Assuredly I am saying to you, Some of those who are standing here may never taste of death, until they should see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.

Matthew 15:4-9

4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ And, ‘He who is speaking evil of their father or mother, let him be ended by the sentence of death.’ 5 But you say, Whoever says to his father or his mother, in whatever you might have been profited from me, it is a gift to God, 6 and then should never honor his father and mother, and thus you invalidated the commandment of God because of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied well concerning you, saying, 8 ‘These people are drawing near to me with their mouth, and are honoring me with their lips, but their heart is faraway from me. 9 But they are worshiping me in futility, teaching as their teachings–the commandments of men.’

Matthew 23:13-28

13 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are devouring widows’houses, and praying long prayers for a pretext, because of this, you will be receiving even-more condemnation.

15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you go all around the sea and the dry land to make one Jewish-convert, and whenever he has become one, you are making him double the son of hell as you\'b0 are yourselves.
16 Woe to you, you blind guides, that say, Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing, but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated. 17 You are foolish and blind; for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that makes the gold holy? 18 And, Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing, but whoever swears by the gift which is upon it, he is obligated. 19 You\'b0 are foolish and blind; for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift holy? 20 Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it, and by all things upon it. 21 And he who swears by the temple, swears by it, and in the one who has dwelt in it. 22 And he who has sworn by the heaven, swears by the throne of God, and in the one who is sitting upon it.
23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and yet have left behind the weighty things of the law: justice and mercy and faith. You ought to do these, and not to have left behind those other things. 24 You blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel! 25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you cleanse the outside of the cup and the plate, but they are full from swindling and unrighteousness inside. 26 Blind Pharisee! First cleanse the cup from within and the plate, in order that the outside of them might also become clean.
27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are similar to whitewashed burial chambers, which on the outside indeed appear beautiful, but inside are full of dead men’s bones, and full of all uncleanness. 28 So on the outside you indeed appear also righteous to men, but inside, you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

35 Who will be separating us away from the love of Christ? Shall affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? 36 Just-as it has been written, ‘Because of you we are slain the whole day. We were counted as sheep of the slaughter.’ 37 But we are victorious in all these things through the one who loved us. 38 For I have confidence, that neither death, nor life, nor messengers, nor principalities, nor powers, nor present things, nor future things, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor some other created thing, will be able to separate us away from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

14 But Peter, standing up together with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them, saying, Men, Jews and all you who are dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and notice my words. 15 For these men are not drunken, as you take it to be; for it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel, 17 God says, ‘And it will be in the last days, I will pour out from My Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters will prophesy and your young-men will see visions and your elderly-men will dream dreams. 18 For-sure, I will pour out of my Spirit upon my male bondservants and upon my female bondservants in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 And I will be giving you wonders in the heaven above and signs upon the earth below; blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and illustrious day of the Lord comes. 21 And it will be, that everyone, whoever calls upon the name of the Lord, will be saved.’
22 Men, Israelites! Hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man from God, having been shown to you by miracles and wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst, just-as you yourselves also know; 23 being given up by what had been determined by the plan and foreknowledge of God, you assassinated him, having taken him and fastened him to a cross through lawless hands; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the travails of death, insomuch as it was not possible for him to be held-fast by it. 25 For David says in regard to him, ‘I am seeing the Lord always before my face, in my sight, because he is at my right hand, in order that I might not be shaken. 26 Because of this, my heart was joyous and my tongue was glad. Now my flesh will also reside in hope; 27 because you will not forsake my soul to Hades, neither will you give your Holy One to see decay. 28 You made known to me the ways of life. You will fill me with joy with your countenance.’ 29 Brethren, it is legal for me to speak publicly to you concerning the patriarch David, that he is both dead and was buried and his tomb is among us to this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that from the fruit of his loins, to raise up the Christ according to the flesh to sit upon his throne. 31 Foreseeing this, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was his soul left to Hades, nor did his flesh see decay. 32 This Jesus, God raised up, of whom we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted by the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out this, which you are seeing and hearing now. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35 until I should place your enemies as the footstool of your feet.’ 36 Therefore, let all the house of Israel know with certainty, that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced in their heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?
38 Now Peter said to them, Repent and be immersed each one of you in the name of Jesus Christ into the forgiveness of your sins, and you will be receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. \super{F} 39 For the promise is to you and to your children and to all those at afar off, as many as the Lord our God may call. 40 Now he was thoroughly testifying and encouraging them with many other words, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. 41 Therefore indeed, they, who gladly accepted his word, were immersed, and approximately three thousand souls was added to them in that day. 42 Now they were persevering in the apostles’teaching and in fellowship and in the breaking of the bread and in prayers.

Acts 10:34-43

34 Now Peter opened his mouth and said, In truth, I comprehend that God is not one who shows-favoritism 35 but in every nation, he who fears him and is working righteousness, is acceptable to him. 36 The word which he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming the good-news of peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all). 37 You know, the word concerning Jesus which happened throughout the whole of Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the immersion that John preached. 38 Jesus who was from Nazareth; how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went through out the land working good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the region of the Jews and in Jerusalem–whom they also assassinated, having hung him upon a tree. 40 God raised this one up on the third day and gave him to become manifest, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses that have been assigned before by God, even to us, who ate and drank together with him after he rose up from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach to the people and to thoroughly testify that he is the one who has been determined by God to be judge of the living and the dead. 43 To this one, all the prophets are testifying, that through his name everyone who believes in him will be receiving forgiveness of sins.

It is essential for him to be loosed for a little time after these things.

1 And the divisions of the sons of Aaron were these. The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no sons. Therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office. 3 And David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service. 4 And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar. And thus were they divided: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen heads of fathers' houses and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers' houses, eight.
5 Thus they were divided by lot, one sort with another. For there were rulers of the sanctuary and rulers for God, both of the sons of Eleazar and of the sons of Ithamar. 6 And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king and the princes and Zadok the priest and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar and the heads of the fathers of the priests and of the Levites, one fathers' house being taken for Eleazar and one taken for Ithamar.
7 Now the first lot came out to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, 8 the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, 9 the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, 10 the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, 11 the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah, 12 the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, 13 the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, 14 the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, 15 the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez, 16 the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel, 17 the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul, 18 the twenty-third to Delaiah, the twenty-fourth to Maaziah.

23 Now he said to all, If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and lift up his cross and follow me. 24 For whoever wishes to save his life will be losing it, but whoever loses his life because of me, this one will be saving it. 25 For what is a man profited, having gained the whole world, but has lost or forfeited himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me, and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him whenever he comes in his own glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy messengers. 27 But I tell you truly, There are some of those who are standing here, who may never taste of death, until they should see the kingdom of God.

Now my flesh will also reside in hope; 27 because you will not forsake my soul to Hades, neither will you give your Holy One to see decay. 28 You made known to me the ways of life.
