¹ And the word of Jehovah came to Jonah the second time, saying, ² Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and preach to it the preaching that I bid you.
³ So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, of three days' journey. ⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey. And he cried out and said, Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.
⁵ And the people of Nineveh believed God and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
⁶ And the news reached the king of Nineveh and he arose from his throne and laid his robe from him and covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he made proclamation and proclaimed through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Do not let them feed, nor drink water, ⁸ but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn each one from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.
⁹ Who knows whether God will not turn and relent and turn away from his fierce anger, that we not perish?
¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God relented of the evil which he said he would do to them and he did not do it.

¹ Now the word of Jehovah came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

¹⁵ Therefore when they had a meal, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, Son of Jonah, do you ^{F} love me more-than these things?
He says to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.
He says to him, Feed my lambs.
¹⁶ He says to him again a second-time, Simon, Son of Jonah, do you ^{F} love me?
He says to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.
He says to him, Shepherd my sheep.
¹⁷ He says to him the third-time, Simon, Son of Jonah, Do you ^{F} love me?
Peter was sorrowful because he said to him the third-time, Do you ^{F} love me like a friend? And he said to him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you like a friend.
Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.

¹⁹ Therefore Jehovah says thus: If you return, then I will bring you again that you may stand before me. And if you take forth the precious from the vile, you will be as my mouth. They will return to you, but you will not return to them.
²⁰ And I will make you to this people a fortified brazen wall. And they will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you. For I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says Jehovah. ²¹ And I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible.

⁷ And you will speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, for they are most rebellious.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me.

² Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.

³ So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, of three days' journey.

¹³ And he will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria and will make Nineveh a desolation and dry like the wilderness. ¹⁴ And herds will lie down in the midst of her. All the beasts of the nations, both the pelican and the porcupine will lodge in the capitals of it. Their voice will sing in the windows. Desolation will be in the thresholds. For he has laid bare the cedar work.
¹⁵ This is the joyous city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am and there is none besides me. How she has become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss and wag his hand.

⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance.

¹⁴ After these things, Jesus finds him in the temple and said to him, Behold, you have become healthy. Sin no longer, in order that something worse might not happen to you.

⁶ And I will add to your days fifteen years. And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria. And I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.

⁷ At that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it, ⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
⁹ And at that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, ¹⁰ if they do what is evil in my sight, that they obey not my voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God relented of the evil which he said he would do to them and he did not do it.

¹⁸ Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now. ¹⁹ Now therefore send, hasten in your cattle and all that you have in the field, and every man and beast that will be found in the field and will not be brought home, the hail will come down upon them and they will die.
²⁰ He who feared the word of Jehovah among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses. ²¹ And he who did not regard the word of Jehovah left his servants and his cattle in the field.

³ And Jehoshaphat was afraid and set himself to seek for Jehovah. And he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

²¹ Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us and for our little ones and for all our substance.

⁹ Now it happened in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah.

¹ Then all the captains of the forces and Johanan the son of Kareah and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,

³ And I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

¹⁴ Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the old men and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Jehovah your* God and cry to Jehovah.

¹² Yet even now, says Jehovah, turn to me with all your* heart and with fasting and with weeping and with mourning. ¹³ And tear your* heart and not your* garments and turn to Jehovah your* God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and relents of the evil. ¹⁴ Who knows whether he will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal offering and a drink offering to Jehovah your* God?
¹⁵ Blow the trumpet in Zion. Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. ¹⁶ Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the old men. Gather the sons and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber and the bride out of her closet. ¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar and let them say, Spare your people, O Jehovah and do not give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?

⁴¹ The men of the Ninevites will be standing up with this generation in the judgment and will be condemning it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, more-than Jonah is here.

¹⁰ To whom they were taking-heed, from the little to the great, saying, This one is the power of God, the Great.

²⁵ Hence, be cheerful, men; for I believe God, that it will be so according to the manner it has been spoken to me.

⁷ In faith, Noah, having been divinely-warned concerning things not yet seen, and being scared, prepared an ark for the salvation of his house; through which he condemned the world and he became an heir of righteousness according to faith.

⁸ And he took an earthen vessel for him to scrape himself with it and he sat among the ashes.

⁶ Therefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹⁰ Now therefore be wise, O you* kings. Be instructed, you* judges of the earth. ¹¹ Serve Jehovah with fear and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son, lest he is angry and you* perish in the way, because his wrath will soon be kindled. All those who take refuge in him are fortunate.

²⁶ O daughter of my people, gird with sackcloth and wallow yourself in ashes. You make mourning, as for an only son, a most bitter lamentation. For the destroyer will suddenly come upon us.

¹⁸ You say to the king and to the queen mother: Humble yourselves. Sit down, for your* coronets have come down, even the crown of your* glory.

²⁹ Let him put his mouth in the dust, perhaps there may be hope.

³⁰ and will cause their voice to be heard over you and will cry bitterly and will cast up dust upon their heads. They will wallow themselves in the ashes. ³¹ And they will make themselves bald for you and gird with sackcloth and they will weep for you in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning.

¹⁰ Do not tell it in Gath. Weep not at all. I have rolled myself in the dust at Beth-le-aphrah.

²¹ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles had happened in Tyre and Sidon which have happened in you, they would have repented long-ago in sackcloth and ashes.

⁶ But he is giving greater grace. Hence the Scripture says, ‘God resists the haughty, but gives grace to the humble.’
⁷ Therefore, be subject to God and stand against the devil, and he will be fleeing away from you. ⁸ Draw near to God and he will be drawing near to you. Cleanse your hands sinners and purify your hearts you indecisive! ⁹ Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy be turned to gloom. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he will be exalting you.

¹⁸ How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because they have no pasture, yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

²⁰ For the creation was subjected to futility, not voluntarily, but because of the one who subjected it, in hope ²¹ that even the creation itself will be made free away from the bondage of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that all creation groans and travails together in pain till now.

¹ Out of the depths I have cried to you, O Jehovah. ² Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

¹⁶ Wash you*, make you* clean, put away the evil of your* practices from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do good. Seek justice, make the oppressed fortunate, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
¹⁸ Come now and let us reason together, says Jehovah, though your* sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they will be as wool.
¹⁹ If you* are willing and obedient, you* will eat the good of the land.

⁶ Seek Jehovah while he may be found. Call you* upon him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked man forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. And let him return to Jehovah and he will have mercy upon him and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke and to let the oppressed go free and that you* break every yoke?

⁶ Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of wickedness and the act of violence is in their hands.

¹¹ Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I frame evil against you* and devise a device against you*. Return now everyone from his evil way and amend your* ways and your* practices.

²¹ But if a wicked man turns from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is lawful and right, he will surely live. He will not die. ²² None of his transgressions that he has committed will be remembered against him. In his righteousness that he has done he will live.
²³ Have I any pleasure in the death of a wicked man? says the lord Jehovah and not rather that he should return from his way and live?
²⁴ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he will die.

²⁷ Again, when a wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed and does what is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive. ²⁸ Because he considers and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he will surely live. He will not die.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you*, O house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the lord Jehovah. Return and turn yourselves from all your* transgressions, so iniquity will not be your* ruin.
³¹ Cast away from you* all your* transgressions, by which you* have transgressed and make you* a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you* die, O house of Israel? ³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the lord Jehovah, therefore turn yourselves back and live.

¹¹ Say to them, As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but that the wicked man turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your* evil ways, for why will you* die, O house of Israel?

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you and break off your sins by righteousness and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, if there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

⁶ So the captain came to him and said to him, What do you mean, O sleeper? Arise, call upon your God, perhaps that God will think upon us, that we not perish.

¹⁴ Therefore they cried to Jehovah and said, We beseech you, O Jehovah, we beseech you, let us not perish for this man's life and lay not upon us innocent blood. For you, O Jehovah, have done as it pleased you.

¹⁹ Therefore, repent and turn again, that your sins may be wiped-away, that seasons of refreshment may come from the presence of the Lord;

²⁰ But I was proclaiming first to them in Damascus, and in Jerusalem, and then to all the region of Judea and to the Gentiles, to repent and to turn to God, practicing works worthy of repentance.

²² And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept. For I said, Who knows whether Jehovah will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?

⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant for them and relented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

¹⁵ Hate the evil and love the good and establish justice in the gate. It may be that Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁸ After having risen up, I will be traveling to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned at heaven, and in your sight. ¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called your son. Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

²⁷ He sings before men and says, I have sinned and perverted what was right and it did not profit me. ²⁸ He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit and my life will behold the light.

⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim sympathize within himself saying, You have disciplined me and I was disciplined as a calf unaccustomed to the yoke. Turn me back and I will be turned back, for you are Jehovah my God.
¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned back. I repented and after I was instructed, I killed* upon my thigh. I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.
²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do earnestly remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy upon him, says Jehovah.
