¹ And again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah. ² And the king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba and number you* the people, that I may know the sum of the people. ³ And Joab said to the king, Now Jehovah your God add to the people, however many they may be, a hundredfold and may the eyes of my lord the king see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?
⁴ Notwithstanding, the king's word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army. And Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to number the people of Israel. ⁵ And they passed over the Jordan and encamped in Aroer on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad and to Jazer. ⁶ Then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi. And they came to Dan-jaan and all around to Sidon, ⁷ and came to the stronghold of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites. And they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba.
⁸ So when they had gone to and fro through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. ⁹ And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to the king. And there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
¹⁰ And David's heart killed* him after he had numbered the people. And David said to Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in what I have done, but now, O Jehovah, I beseech you, put away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.
¹¹ And when David rose up in the morning, the word of Jehovah came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, ¹² Go and speak to David, Jehovah says thus, I offer you three things. Choose you one of them, that I may do it to you. ¹³ So Gad came to David and told him and said to him, Shall three years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or will there be three days' pestilence in your land? Now decide and see what answer I will return to him who sent me.
¹⁴ And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait. Let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah, for his mercies are great and do not let me fall into the hand of man. ¹⁵ So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed. And there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.
¹⁶ And when the messenger stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah relented of the evil and said to the messenger who destroyed the people, It is enough. Now stay your hand. And the messenger of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
¹⁷ And David spoke to Jehovah when he saw the messenger who killed* the people and said, Behold, I have sinned and I have done perversely, but these sheep, what have they done? I beseech you, let your hand, be against me and against my father's house.
¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David and said to him, Go up, rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. ¹⁹ And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Jehovah commanded. ²⁰ And Araunah looked forth and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. And Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
²¹ And Araunah said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor from you, to build an altar to Jehovah that the plague may be halted from the people. ²² And Araunah said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the oxen for the burnt offering and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. ²³ All this, O king, Araunah gives to the king. And Araunah said to the king, Jehovah your God accept you.
²⁴ And the king said to Araunah, No, but I will truly buy it from you at a price. Neither will I offer burnt offerings to Jehovah my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. ²⁵ And David built there an altar to Jehovah and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land and the plague was halted from Israel.

⁵ And now do not be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you* sold me here, because God sent me before you* to preserve life.

²⁰ And as for you*, you* meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive.

³ And I will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ Now therefore, I beseech you, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is Jehovah who has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering, but if it is the sons of men, cursed be they before Jehovah. For they have driven me out this day that I should not cling to the inheritance of Jehovah, saying, Go, serve other gods.

¹¹ Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house. And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you*, you* sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses and because Jehovah has said to him, Curse David, who then will say, Why have you done so?

¹ And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Jehovah. And Jehovah said, It is for Saul and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites.
² And the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites and the sons of Israel had sworn to them and yet Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah), ³ and David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you*? And with what shall I make atonement that you* may bless the inheritance of Jehovah?
⁴ And the Gibeonites said to him, It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house, neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel. And he said, Whatever you* will say, that I will do for you*. ⁵ And they said to the king, The man who consumed us and who devised against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel, ⁶ let seven men of his sons be delivered to us and we will hang them up to Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah. And the king said, I will give them.
⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. ⁸ But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah whom she bore to Saul, and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites. And they hanged them in the mountain before Jehovah and they fell all seven together. And they were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.
¹⁰ And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured upon them from heaven. And she neither allowed the birds of the heaven to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. ¹¹ And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
¹² And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan where the Philistines had hanged them in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa, ¹³ and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
¹⁴ And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulcher of Kish his father. And they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.

²⁰ And Jehovah said, Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner and another said on that manner.
²¹ And there came out a spirit and stood before Jehovah and said, I will entice him. ²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You will entice him and will also prevail. Go forth and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.

¹ And Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel.

²³ But David did not take the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Jehovah had said he would increase Israel like the stars of heaven. ²⁴ Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but did not finish. And wrath came for this upon Israel. Neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

⁹ And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, Jehovah, have deceived that prophet. And I will stretch out my hand upon him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

²⁵ Moreover I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances in which they will not live.

²⁸ to do as many things as your hand and your council predetermined to happen.

¹¹ And because of this, God will be sending them a working of error, that they may believe in the lie;

¹³ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God, for God is not temptable from evils, and he himself tempts no one. ¹⁴ But each person is tempted, when he is pulled away and enticed by his own lust.

¹³ and when your herds and your flocks multiply and your silver and your gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, ¹⁴ then your heart be lifted up and you forget Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,

¹ Then all the sons of Israel went out. And the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, with the land of Gilead, to Jehovah at Mizpah.

¹³ And Joab the son of Zeruiah and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. And they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool.

¹⁰ to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-sheba.

¹⁶ And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder,

¹¹ But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude and that you go to battle in your own person.

²³ Now Joab was over all the army of Israel and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites,

³⁷ Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, armor-bearers to Joab the son of Zeruiah,

² And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan and bring me word that I may know the sum of them.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done to him. For his heart was lifted up. Therefore there was wrath upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
²⁶ Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

³¹ However in the business of the ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

²³ A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is of a lowly spirit will obtain honor.

⁵ Jehovah says thus: Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm and whose heart departs from Jehovah.

⁷ And, in order that I should not promote myself by the excellence of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of the Adversary, in order that it might batter me, in order that I should not promote myself.

¹¹ Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, make you* a thousand times as many as you* are and bless you*, as he has promised you*!

¹² Be of good courage and let us play the man on behalf of our people and the cities of our God. And Jehovah do what seems good to him.

³ And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel? ⁴ Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and came to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ Jehovah increase you* more and more, you* and your* sons.

²⁸ The king's glory is in the multitude of people, but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

⁵ Then you will see and be radiant and your heart will thrill and be enlarged, because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you.

¹⁷ But the midwives feared God and did not do as the King of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.

⁴ Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and came to Jerusalem.

⁴ For the king's word has power and who may say to him, What are you doing?

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and said, It is essential for us to obey God rather than men.

³² And Moses sent to spy out Jazer. And they took the towns of it and drove out the Amorites that were there.

¹ Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle. And when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle,

³ Ataroth and Dibon and Jazer and Nimrah and Heshbon and Elealeh and Sebam and Nebo and Beon,

³⁵ and Atroth-shophan and Jazer and Jogbehah,

³⁶ From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and from the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. Jehovah our God delivered up all before us.

⁹ from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and the city that is in the middle of the valley and all the plain of Medeba to Dibon;

¹⁶ And their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and the city that is in the middle of the valley and all the plain by Medeba;

²⁸ and to those who were in Aroer and to those who were in Siphmoth and to those who were in Eshtemoa,

⁸ For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah. The lords of the nations have broken down the choice branches of it, which reached even to Jazer, which wandered into the wilderness. Its shoots were spread abroad. They passed over the sea.
⁹ Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah. I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh. For upon your summer fruits and upon your harvest the battle shout has fallen.

² The cities of Aroer are forsaken. They will be for flocks, which will lie down and none will make them afraid.

¹⁵ And Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth

²¹ So he fled with all that he had. And he rose up and passed over the River and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead.

⁴⁷ And Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha.
⁴⁸ And Laban said, This heap is witness between me and you this day. Therefore the name of it was called Galeed,

³⁹ And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorites that were in it.

⁸ And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel and they killed* them and chased them to great Sidon and to Misrephoth-maim and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward. And they killed* them until they left them none remaining.

²⁸ and Ebron and Rehob and Hammon and Kanah, even to great Sidon,

⁴⁷ And the border of the sons of Dan went out beyond them, for the sons of Dan went up and fought against Leshem and took it and killed* it with the edge of the sword and possessed it and dwelt in it and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

³¹ Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob,

²⁸ And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon and they had no dealings with any man and it was in the valley that lies by Beth-rehob. And they built the city and dwelt in it. ²⁹ And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father who was born to Israel. However the name of the city was Laish at first.

²² And it happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with you in all that you do. ²³ Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land in which you have traveled. ²⁴ And Abraham said, I will swear.
²⁵ And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the well of water which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away. ²⁶ And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this thing, neither did you tell me, nor yet did I hear of it, except today.
²⁷ And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech. And the two made a covenant. ²⁸ And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. ²⁹ And Abimelech said to Abraham, What do these seven ewe-lambs mean which you have set by themselves? ³⁰ And he said, For these seven ewe-lambs you will take from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well. ³¹ Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because both of them swore there.
³² So they cut a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up and Phicol the captain of his army and they returned into the land of the Philistines. ³³ And Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba and called on the name of Jehovah, the Everlasting God, there.

³ to the Canaanite on the east and on the west and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Jebusite in the hill-country and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

²⁹ and the border turned to Ramah and to the fortified city of Tyre and the border turned to Hosah. And the goings out of it were at the sea by the region of Achzib,

³ namely, the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites that dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon to the entrance of Hamath.

² And the king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba and number you* the people, that I may know the sum of the people.

⁴⁴ These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered and the rulers of Israel, being twelve men. They were each one for his fathers' house. ⁴⁵ So all those who were numbered of the sons of Israel by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war in Israel, ⁴⁶ even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

⁵ And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to David. And all those of Israel were a million and a hundred thousand men who drew a sword. And Judah was four hundred seventy thousand men who drew a sword. ⁶ But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them, for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

⁶ Do you* thus requite Jehovah, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he your father who has bought you? He has made you and established you.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you. For now Jehovah would have established your kingdom upon Israel until everlasting,

⁵ And it happened afterward, that David's heart killed* him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

²¹ Then Saul said, I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will no more do you harm because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have erred exceedingly.

¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovah. And Nathan said to David, Jehovah also has put away your sin; you will not die.

⁸ And David said to God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now, I beseech you, put away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.

⁹ For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong to those whose heart is perfect toward him. In this you have done foolishly, for from hereafter you will have wars.

²⁶ Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust and you will seek me diligently, but I will not be.

²⁷ He sings before men and says, I have sinned and perverted what was right and it did not profit me. ²⁸ He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit and my life will behold the light.

⁵ I acknowledged my sin to you and I did not hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Jehovah and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹³ He who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

² Take with you* words and return to Jehovah. Say to him, Take away all iniquity and accept what is good. So we will render as bullocks the offering of our lips.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, Jehovah will be a light to me.
⁹ I will bear the indignation of Jehovah, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my case and executes judgment for me. He will bring me forth to the light and I will behold his righteousness.

²² greedy-acts, wickednesses, treachery, unbridled-lusts, an evil eye, blasphemy, haughtiness, foolishness.

²⁹ On the next-day he sees Jesus coming toward him and says, Behold, the Lamb of God, who is taking away the sin of the world!

⁹ Now when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, they were going out one by one, having begun from the elder ones and Jesus was being left alone, and the woman being in his midst.

³ For we were also previously foolish, disobedient, being misled, serving in various lusts and sensual-delights, leading lives in malice and envy, spiteful, hating one another.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and he knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have boldness toward God;

⁹ (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he said, Come and let us go to the seer, for he who is now called a Prophet was formerly called a Seer.)

⁵ And the prophet Gad said to David, Do not abide in the stronghold. Depart and get you into the land of Judah. Then David departed and came into the forest of Hereth.

¹⁹ And Azubah died and Caleb took to him Ephrath, who bore for him Hur.

²⁹ Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer and in the history of Nathan the prophet and in the history of Gad the seer,

⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity,

⁴³ The land also will be left by them and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. And they will accept of the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because they rejected my ordinances and their soul loathed my statutes.

⁹ Why have you despised the word of Jehovah, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.
¹⁰ Now therefore the sword will not depart (everlasting and forever) from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

¹⁴ However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of Jehovah to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you will surely die.

¹⁰ Go and speak to David, saying, Jehovah says thus, I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.
¹¹ So Gad came to David and said to him, Jehovah says thus, Take which you will:

¹⁷ Behold, fortunate is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise you the chastening of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he injures and binds up. He wounds and his hands make whole.

¹² Because whom Jehovah loves he reproves and he whips every son whom he receives.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and scourges every son whom he is accepting.’ ⁷ It is for disciplining that you endure; God is dealing with you as with sons; for what is the son whom his father is not disciplining? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, consequently, you are illegitimate and not sons. ⁹ Thereafter, we have indeed had the fathers of our flesh as correctors of us, and we were revering them. Will we not much rather be made subject to the Father of spirits and we will live? ¹⁰ For they indeed were disciplining us for a few days according to what did seem right to them, but he does it upon what is advantageous for us, that we may receive of his holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

¹⁶ I also will do this to you*: I will appoint terror over you*, even consumption and fever, that will consume the eyes and make the soul to pine away. And you* will sow your* seed in vain, for your* enemies will eat it. ¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.

²⁰ and your* strength will be spent in vain, for your* land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.

²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you* that will execute the vengeance of the covenant and you* will be gathered together within your* cities. And I will send the pestilence among you* and you* will be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

³⁶ And as for those who are left of you*, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them and they will flee as a man flees from the sword and they will fall when no man pursues. ³⁷ And they will stumble one upon another, as it were before the sword, when no man pursues. And you* will have no power to stand before your* enemies.

²² Jehovah will kill* you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew. And they will pursue you until you perish.

²⁵ Jehovah will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them and will flee seven ways before them. And you will be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.

²⁷ Jehovah will kill* you with the boils of Egypt and with the tumors and with the scurvy and with the itch, of which you cannot be healed.

³⁵ Jehovah will kill* you in the knees and in the legs, with a sore boil, of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.

⁵² And they will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land. And they will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Jehovah your God has given you.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the travelers of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
² And the word of Jehovah came to him, saying, ³ You get from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan. ⁴ And it will be, that you will drink of the brook and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.
⁵ So he went and did according to the word of Jehovah, for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan. ⁶ And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning and bread and flesh in the evening and he drank of the brook. ⁷ And it happened after a while, that the brook dried up because there was no rain in the land.

¹² either three years of famine, or three months to be consumed before your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land and the messenger of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I will return to him who sent me.

⁶ for the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.

¹³ Son of man, when a land sins against me by committing a trespass and I stretch out my hand upon it and break the staff of the bread of it and send famine upon it and cut off from it man and beast,

¹⁹ Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast, ²⁰ though Noah, Daniel and Job, were in it, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, they would deliver neither son nor daughter, they would but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
²¹ For thus says the lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four severe judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword and the famine and the evil beasts and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!

²⁵ But in truth I say to you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was locked for three years and six months, as such there became a large famine over all the land;

⁶ And Jehovah passed by before him and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and truth, ⁷ keeping loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons and upon the sons' sons, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people hid themselves in caves and in thickets and in rocks and in coverts and in pits.

¹⁵ And when the servant of the man of God was risen early and gone forth, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And his servant said to him, Alas, my master! What will we do?

³ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, continually.
⁴ And Jehoahaz besought Jehovah and Jehovah listened to him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, how that the king of Syria oppressed them. ⁵ (And Jehovah gave Israel a savior, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians and the sons of Israel dwelt in their tents as formerly. ⁶ Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin, but walked in it. And the Asherah also remained in Samaria.) ⁷ For he did not leave to Jehoahaz of the people except fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria destroyed them and made them like the dust in threshing.

¹³ And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait. Let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah, for his mercies are very great and do not let me fall into the hand of man.

⁵ Therefore Jehovah his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. And they killed* him and carried away of his a great multitude of captives and brought them to Damascus.
And he was also delivered into the hand of the King of Israel, who killed* him with a great slaughter. ⁶ For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men, because they had forsaken Jehovah, the God of their fathers. ⁷ And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king's son and Azrikam the ruler of the house and Elkanah who was next to the king.
⁸ And the sons of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand, women, sons and daughters and also took away much spoil from them and brought the spoil to Samaria.
⁹ But a prophet of Jehovah was there, whose name was Oded. And he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria and said to them, Behold, because Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your* hand. And you* have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven.

¹ Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your loving kindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

⁵ Because you, Lord, are good and ready to forgive and abundant in loving kindness to all those who call upon you.

¹⁵ But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and truth.

⁸ Jehovah is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness.
⁹ He will not always contend, nor will he keep it everlasting. ¹⁰ He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
¹¹ Because as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him. ¹² As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
¹³ Like as a father pities his sons, So Jehovah pities those who fear him. ¹⁴ Because he knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust.

⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the nations. And those who hated them, ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

¹⁵⁶ Great are your tender mercies, O Jehovah. Give me life according to your ordinances.

⁴ But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.

⁹ Jehovah is good to all and his tender mercies are over all his works.

¹⁰ A righteous man regards the life of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

⁶ I was angry with my people. I profaned my inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy. you have laid your yoke very heavily upon the aged.

⁷ Let the wicked man forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. And let him return to Jehovah and he will have mercy upon him and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

² And he prayed to Jehovah and said, I beseech you, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hastened to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and relent you of the evil.

¹⁸ Who is a God like to you, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.

¹⁵ And I am very greatly displeased with the nations that are at ease. For I was but a little displeased and they helped forward the affliction.

²⁷ Now my soul has been disturbed, and what should I say? Father, save me from this hour? But I came to this hour because of this.

²³ But I am troubled from the two ends, having the desire, that I should vacate and be together with Christ, but it is much better rather

⁴⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, Take your censer and put fire in it from the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah. The plague has begun.
⁴⁷ And Aaron took as Moses spoke and ran into the midst of the assembly. And behold, the plague had begun among the people. And he put on the incense and made atonement for the people. ⁴⁸ And he stood between the dead and the living and the plague was stopped.
⁴⁹ Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died about the matter of Korah.

⁹ And those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁹ And he killed* of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of Jehovah. He killed* of the people fifty thousand and seventy men. And the people mourned, because Jehovah had struck the people with a great slaughter.

¹⁴ So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

⁴ And over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite and his division. And Mikloth was the ruler. And in his division were twenty-four thousand.

²⁴ Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but did not finish. And wrath came for this upon Israel. Neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

³⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

⁷ For nation will arise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and plagues and earthquakes in different places.

⁸ And behold, a pale-green horse and he who sits upon him, his name was Death, and Hades was following with him. And there was given to him authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with a long-sword and with famine and with death and by the beasts of the earth.

⁶ And Jehovah regretted that he had made man on the earth and it grieved him in his heart.

¹⁶ and the Jebusite and the Amorite and the Girgashite

²⁸ Entreat Jehovah, let it be enough of these mighty thunderings and hail and I will let you* go and you* will stay no longer.

¹³ And the blood will be to you* for a sign upon the houses where you* are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you* and there will no plague be upon you* to destroy you*, when I kill* the land of Egypt.

²³ For Jehovah will pass through to kill* the Egyptians and when he sees the blood upon the lintel and on the two side-posts, Jehovah will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your* houses to kill* you*.

¹⁴ And Jehovah relented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.

⁶³ And as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the sons of Judah could not drive them out, but the Jebusites dwell with the sons of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.

²¹ And the sons of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem, but the Jebusites dwell with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

¹¹ When they were by Jebus, the day was far spent and the servant said to his master, Come, I beseech you and let us turn aside into this city of the Jebusites and lodge in it.

¹¹ I regret that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments. And Samuel was angry and he cried out to Jehovah all night.

⁸ And David said on that day, Whoever slays the Jebusites, let him get up to the watercourse and kill * the lame and the blind, the hated by David's soul, because the blind and the lame say, He cannot come into the house.

¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David and said to him, Go up, rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

⁴ But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree. And he requested for himself that he might die and said, It is enough, now, O Jehovah, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.

³⁵ And it happened that night, that the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

¹⁵ And God sent a messenger to Jerusalem to destroy it. And as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld and he relented of the evil and said to the destroying messenger, It is enough. Now halt your hand. And the messenger of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. ¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the messenger of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

¹ Then Solomon began to build the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where Jehovah appeared to David his father, which he made ready in the place that David had appointed, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

²¹ And Jehovah sent a messenger who cut off all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, those who came out from his own guts killed him there with the sword.

⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery and the messenger of Jehovah pursuing them.

³⁸ But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity and did not destroy. Yes, he turned his anger away much and did not stir up all his wrath.

¹³ Return, O Jehovah. How long? And relent concerning your servants.

¹⁴ Because Jehovah will judge his people and will relent concerning his servants.

⁸ In measure, in sending it forth, you contend with it. He has removed with his rough blast in the day of the east wind.

¹ Comfort you*, comfort my people, says your* God. ² Speak comfortably to Jerusalem and cry to her, that her warfare has been completed, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

¹⁶ For I will not contend everlasting, nor will I always be angry, for the spirit would faint before me and the souls that I have made.

⁷ At that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it, ⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
⁹ And at that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, ¹⁰ if they do what is evil in my sight, that they obey not my voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

¹³ And tear your* heart and not your* garments and turn to Jehovah your* God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and relents of the evil. ¹⁴ Who knows whether he will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal offering and a drink offering to Jehovah your* God?

² O Jehovah, I have heard the report of you and am afraid. O Jehovah, revive your work in the midst of the years. In the midst of the years make it known. In wrath remember mercy.

⁷ And I will take away his blood out of his mouth and his abominations from between his teeth. And he also will be a remnant for our God and he will be as a chieftain in Judah and Ekron as a Jebusite.

⁴¹ And he comes the third-time and says to them, Furthermore, are you sleeping and resting yourselves? It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is given up into the hands of sinners.

²³ But instantly a messenger of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory and he expired, having become maggot-eaten.

⁶ Sufficient to such a one is this penalty which was inflicted by the many;

³³ Now therefore, I beseech you, let your servant abide a bondman to my lord instead of the young man and let the young man go up with his brothers.

¹⁰ And David's heart killed* him after he had numbered the people. And David said to Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in what I have done, but now, O Jehovah, I beseech you, put away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.

¹⁷ And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And Jehovah said, These have no master, let them return every man to his house in peace.

¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the messenger of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
¹⁷ And David said to God, Is it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? Even I it is who have sinned and done very badly. But these sheep, what have they done? I beseech you, O Jehovah my God, let your hand be against me and against my father's house, but not against your people, that they should be plagued.

²⁰ If I have sinned, what do I do to you, O you, watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?

⁶ Therefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹¹ You have made us like sheep for food and have scattered us among the nations.

² Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. ³ Because I know my transgressions and my sin is always before me.
⁴ Against you, you only, I have sinned and done what is evil in your sight, that you may be justified when you speak and may prevail when you are criticized.
⁵ Behold, I was brought out in iniquity and my mother conceived me in sin.

¹ O God, why have you cast off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the sheep?
³ You* eat the fat and you* clothe yourselves with the wool. You* kill the fattened-ones, but you* do not feed the sheep. ⁴ You* have not strengthened the diseased, nor have you* healed what was sick, nor have you* bound up what was broken, nor have you* brought back what was driven away, nor have you* sought what was lost, but you* have ruled over them with force and with rigor.
⁵ And they were scattered because there was no shepherd. And they became food to all the beasts of the field and were scattered. ⁶ My sheep wandered through all the mountains and upon every high hill. Yes, my sheep were scattered upon all the face of the earth and there was none who searched or sought.

²³ And I will set up one shepherd over them and he will feed them, even my servant David. He will feed them and he will be their shepherd. ²⁴ And I, Jehovah, will be their God and my servant David ruler among them. I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd and against the man who is my companion, says Jehovah of hosts. Strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered. And I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life on behalf of the sheep. ¹² But the hired-servant and not being the shepherd, whose sheep are not his own, views the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees and the wolf seizes them and scatters the sheep.

²⁴ who, himself, carried our sins in his body upon the tree, in order that we might live to righteousness, having died to our sins; by whose wound s you were healed. ²⁵ For you were being misled like sheep, but now were returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

¹¹ And when David rose up in the morning, the word of Jehovah came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

¹⁸ Then the messenger of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up and rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
¹⁹ And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of Jehovah. ²⁰ And Ornan turned back and saw the messenger and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. ²¹ And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David and went out of the threshing-floor and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
²² Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build on it an altar to Jehovah. For the full price you will give it me, that the plague may be stopped from the people.
²³ And Ornan said to David, Take it to you and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes. Behold, I give you the oxen for burnt offerings and the threshing instruments for wood and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.
²⁴ And king David said to Ornan, No, but I will truly buy it for the full price. Because I will not take what is yours for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt offering without cost. ²⁵ So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
²⁶ And David built there an altar to Jehovah and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings and called upon Jehovah. And he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. ²⁷ And Jehovah commanded the messenger and he put up his sword again into the sheath of it.
²⁸ At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. ²⁹ For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon. ³⁰ But David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the messenger of Jehovah.

²² Noah did so according to all that God commanded him and so he did.

¹⁹ And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of Jehovah.

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa. And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah and you* inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in Jehovah your* God, so you* will be established. Believe his prophets, so you* will prosper.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who testified against them to turn them again to you and they worked great provocations.

⁸ In faith, Abraham obeyed, being called to go out to the place which he was about to receive for an inheritance, and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

² And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood by him. And when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed himself to the earth

¹⁰ Then she fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground and said to him, Why have I found favor in your sight that you should take knowledge of me, seeing I am a foreigner?

⁸ And he bowed-down and said, What is your servant that you should look upon such a dead dog as I am?

²⁰ And Ornan turned back and saw the messenger and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. ²¹ And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David and went out of the threshing-floor and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.

⁸ And he spoke with them, saying, If it is your* mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar, ⁹ that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. Let him give it to me for the full price for a burial possession in the midst of you*.
¹⁰ Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the sons of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying, ¹¹ No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field. And the cave that is in it, I give it to you. I give it to you in the presence of the sons of my people. Bury your dead.
¹² And Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land. ¹³ And he spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But, I beseech you, if you would hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me and I will bury my dead there.
¹⁴ And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him, ¹⁵ My lord, listen to me. A piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and you? Therefore bury your dead.
¹⁶ And Abraham listened to Ephron. And Abraham weighed the silver to Ephron that he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, what passes with the merchant.

⁴⁴ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁵ You* get up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, Take your censer and put fire in it from the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah. ⁸ And he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the sons of Israel.

³ And Joab said to the king, Now Jehovah your God add to the people, however many they may be, a hundredfold and may the eyes of my lord the king see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

²² Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build on it an altar to Jehovah. For the full price you will give it me, that the plague may be stopped from the people.

³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment and so the plague was restrained.

⁶ And Jeremiah said, The word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ⁷ Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, Buy my field that is in Anathoth. For the right of redemption is your to buy it.
⁸ So Hanamel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Jehovah and said to me, I beseech you, buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin. For the right of inheritance is your and the redemption is your. Buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the word of Jehovah.
⁹ And I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle's son and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. ¹⁰ And I signed the deed and sealed it and called witnesses and weighed him the money in the balances.
¹¹ So I took the deed of the purchase, both what was sealed, according to the law and custom and what was open, ¹² and I delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle's son and in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.
¹³ And I charged Baruch before them, saying, ¹⁴ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase which is sealed and this deed which is open and put them in an earthen vessel that they may continue many days.

¹¹ No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field. And the cave that is in it, I give it to you. I give it to you in the presence of the sons of my people. Bury your dead.

¹⁴ And the cart came into the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite and stood there where there was a great stone. And they split the wood of the cart and offered up the cows for a burnt offering to Jehovah.

²¹ And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and killed them and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen and gave to the people and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and ministered to him.

⁸ Now therefore, take to you* seven bullocks and seven rams. And go to my servant Job and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering. And my servant Job will pray for you*, for him I will accept, that I not deal with you* after your* senselessness. For you* have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.
⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did just-as Jehovah commanded them and Jehovah accepted Job.

³ remember all your offerings and accept your burnt-sacrifice (Selah), ⁴ grant your heart's desire and fulfill all your counsel.

¹⁶ Instead of your fathers will be your sons, whom you will make rulers in all the earth.

⁸ But a noble man devises noble things and in noble things he will continue.

⁷ All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you. The rams of Nebaioth will minister to you. They will come up with acceptance on my altar and I will glorify the house of my glory.

⁴⁰ For in my holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, says the lord Jehovah, there will all the house of Israel, all of them, serve me in the land. There I will accept them and there I will require your* offerings and the first-fruits of your* oblations, with all your* holy things.
⁴¹ I will accept you* as a sweet aroma when I bring you* out from the peoples and gather you* out of the countries in which you* have been scattered. And I will be made holy in you* in the sight of the nations.

¹³ As for the sacrifices of my offerings, they sacrifice flesh and eat it, but Jehovah does not accept them. He will now remember their iniquity and visit their sins. They will return to Egypt.

³⁰ Now brethren, I am encouraging you through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to struggle together with me, and on my behalf in your prayers to God; ³¹ in order that I may be rescued away from those who are disobedient in Judea and in order that my service which I have for Jerusalem might become acceptable to the holy-ones;

¹ Therefore I am encouraging first of all that supplications, prayers, petitions, thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, ² on behalf of kings and all who are in superior-stations; in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and honesty.

⁵ You, yourselves, like living stones, are also built up as a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

¹³ And he spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But, I beseech you, if you would hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me and I will bury my dead there.

²⁴ And king David said to Ornan, No, but I will truly buy it for the full price. Because I will not take what is yours for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt offering without cost. ²⁵ So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

¹ Then David said, This is the house of Jehovah God and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.

¹² But you* profane it, in that you* say, The table of Jehovah is polluted. And the fruit of it, even its food, is contemptible. ¹³ You* also say, Behold, what a weariness it is! And you* have sniffed at it, says Jehovah of hosts. And you* have brought what was taken by violence and the lame and the sick. Thus you* bring the offering.
Should I accept this at your* hand? says Jehovah. ¹⁴ But cursed be the deceiver, who has in his flock a male and vows and sacrifices to the Lord a blemished thing. For I am a great King, says Jehovah of hosts and my name is feared among the Gentiles.

¹⁷ Repay to no one evil in exchange-for evil. Plan-for good things in the sight of all men.

²⁰ And Noah built an altar to Jehovah and took of every clean beast and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

⁹ And they came to the place which God had told him of. And Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.

⁹ And Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Jehovah. And Samuel cried to Jehovah for Israel and Jehovah answered him.

¹⁷ And his return was to Ramah, for his house was there. And there he judged Israel and there he built an altar to Jehovah.

¹⁴ And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulcher of Kish his father. And they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.

¹⁴ And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait. Let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah, for his mercies are great and do not let me fall into the hand of man.

²⁶ And David built there an altar to Jehovah and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings and called upon Jehovah. And he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. ²⁷ And Jehovah commanded the messenger and he put up his sword again into the sheath of it.

³² For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. ³³ For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the sons of men.
