²⁶ I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan. You have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was wonderful, exceeding the love of women.

¹ And it happened, when he had made an end of speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. ² And Saul took him that day and would no more let him go home to his father's house.
³ Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. ⁴ And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David and his apparel, even to his sword and to his bow and to his belt.

² And Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeks to kill you. Now therefore, I beseech you, take heed to yourself in the morning and abide in a secret place and hide yourself.

¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him. For he loved him as he loved his own soul.

⁴¹ And as soon as the lad had gone, David arose out of a place toward the South and fell on his face to the ground and bowed himself three times. And they kissed each other and wept one with another until David surpassed him.

¹⁶ And Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David into the forest and strengthened his hand in God.
