¹ But false prophets happened to be also among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will be smuggling in sects of destruction, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing quick destruction upon themselves.

¹ If there arise in the midst of you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams and he gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder occurs, of which he spoke to you, saying, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known and let us serve them, ³ you will not listen to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams, for Jehovah your* God proves you*, to know whether you* love Jehovah your* God with all your* heart and with all your* soul.

⁶ Do you* thus requite Jehovah, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he your father who has bought you? He has made you and established you.

¹⁹ Now therefore send and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Jezebel's table. ²⁰ So Ahab sent to all the sons of Israel and gathered the prophets together to Mount Carmel.
²¹ And Elijah came near to all the people and said, How long do you* go limping between the two sides? If Jehovah be God, follow him, but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
²² Then Elijah said to the people, I, even I only, am left a prophet of Jehovah, but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

⁶ Then the King of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.

¹² And I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me and Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ For this cause he was hired, that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
¹⁴ Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets, who would have put me in fear.

¹⁵ The elder and the honorable man, he is the head. And the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind. They are all without knowledge. They are all mute dogs. They cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. ¹¹ Yes, the dogs are greedy; they can never have enough. And these are shepherds who cannot understand. They have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

¹³ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, the prophets say to them, You* will not see the sword, nor will you* have famine, but I will give you* assured peace in this place.
¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, nor have I commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you* a lying vision and divination and a thing of nothing and the deceit of their own heart.
¹⁵ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name and I did not send them, yet they say, Sword and famine will not be in this land: By sword and famine those prophets will be consumed.

¹⁶ Jehovah of hosts says thus: Listen not to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you*. They teach you* vanity. They speak a vision of their own heart and not out of the mouth of Jehovah. ¹⁷ They say continually to those who despise me, Jehovah has said, You* will have peace. And to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil will come upon you*.

²⁵ I have heard what the prophets have said, who prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. ²⁶ How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart? ²⁷ Who think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers forgot my name for Baal.
²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream. And he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? says Jehovah. ²⁹ Is not my word like fire? says Jehovah and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
³⁰ Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, says Jehovah, who steal my words each one from his neighbor. ³¹ Behold, I am against the prophets, says Jehovah, who use their tongues and say, He says. ³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, says Jehovah and tell them. And make my people go-astray by their lies and by their vain boasting. Yet I sent them not, nor commanded them, neither do they profit this people at all, says Jehovah.

¹⁴ And listen not to the words of the prophets who speak to you*, saying, You* will not serve the king of Babylon, for they prophesy a lie to you*. ¹⁵ For I have not sent them, says Jehovah, but they prophesy falsely in my name, that I may drive you* out and that you* may perish, you* and the prophets who prophesy to you*.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah. Jehovah has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will send you away from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have spoken rebellion against Jehovah. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

⁸ For Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Do not let your* prophets who are in the midst of you* and your* diviners, deceive you*, nor listen to your* dreams which you* cause to be dreamed. ⁹ For they prophesy falsely to you* in my name. I have not sent them, says Jehovah.

³¹ Send to all those of the captivity, saying, Jehovah says thus concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you* and I did not send him and he has caused you* to trust in a lie, ³² therefore Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He will not have a man to dwell among this people, nor will he behold the good that I will do to my people, says Jehovah, because he has spoken rebellion against Jehovah.

¹⁹ Where now are your* prophets who prophesied to you*, saying, The king of Babylon will not come against you*, nor against this land?

¹⁴ Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you. And they have not uncovered your iniquity, to bring back your captivity, but have seen for you false oracles and causes of banishment.

³ The lord Jehovah says thus: Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! ⁴ O Israel, your prophets have been like foxes in the waste places.
⁵ You* have not gone up into the gaps, nor built up the wall for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of Jehovah. ⁶ They have seen falsehood and lying divination, who say, Jehovah says, but Jehovah has not sent them. And they have made men to hope that the word would be confirmed. ⁷ Have you* not seen a false vision and have you* not spoken a lying divination, in that you* say, Jehovah says, But I have not spoken?
⁸ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you* have spoken falsehood and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you*, says the lord Jehovah. ⁹ And my hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who divine lies. They will not be in the council of my people, nor will they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither will they enter into the land of Israel.
And you* will know that I am the lord Jehovah.
¹⁰ Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace and there is no peace and when a man builds up a wall, behold, they daub it with untempered mortar, ¹¹ say to those who daub it with untempered mortar, that it will fall.
There will be an overflowing shower and you*, O great hailstones, will fall and a stormy wind will tear it. ¹² Behold, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you*, Where is the daubing with which you* have daubed it?
¹³ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: I will even tear it with a stormy wind in my wrath and there will be an overflowing shower in my anger and great hailstones in wrath to consume it.
¹⁴ So I will break down the wall that you* have daubed with untempered mortar and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation of it will be uncovered. And it will fall and you* will be consumed in the midst of it.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
¹⁵ Thus I will accomplish my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have daubed it with untempered mortar. And I will say to you*, The wall is no more, nor those who daubed it, ¹⁶ namely, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem and who see visions of peace for her and there is no peace, says the lord Jehovah.
¹⁷ And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart and prophesy you against them. ¹⁸ And say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Woe to the women who sew pillows upon all elbows and make headdresses for the head of every stature to hunt souls!
Will you* hunt the souls of my people and save souls alive for yourselves?

⁸ Ephraim was a watchman with my God. As for the prophet, a fowler's snare is in all his ways and enmity in the house of his God.

¹¹ If a man walking in a spirit of falsehood lies, saying, I will prophesy to you of wine and of strong drink, he will even be the prophet of this people.

⁵ Jehovah says thus concerning the prophets who make my people go-astray, who bite with their teeth and cry, Peace. And he who does not put into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us.

³ And it will happen that, when any will yet prophesy, then his father and his mother who fathered him will say to him, You will not live, for you speak lies in the name of Jehovah. And his father and his mother who fathered him will thrust him through when he prophesies.
⁴ And it will happen in that day, that the prophets will be ashamed each one of his vision, when he prophesies, nor will they wear a hairy mantle to deceive.

⁵ And I will come near to you* to judgment and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against the false swearers and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless and who turn aside the traveler and do not fear me, says Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁵ But take-heed, stay away from false prophets, who are coming to you in sheep’s clothing, but inside are ravenous wolves.

³³ But whoever denies me before men, I will also be denying him before my Father who is in the heavens.

⁵ For many will be coming in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and will be misleading many.

¹¹ And many false prophets will arise and will be misleading many.

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will be giving great signs and wonders; so-then to mislead, if possible, even the chosen.

²² for there will arise false Christs and false prophets and will be giving signs and wonders to this end, if possible, that they may mislead even the chosen.

²⁶ Woe to you whenever men speak well of you, for their fathers were doing to the false prophets according to the same things!

⁹ But he who has denied me in the sight of men will be denied in the sight of the messengers of God.

⁸ And he said, Beware, do not be misled; for many will be coming in my name, saying, I am he, and, The time has drawn near. You therefore, do not travel after them.

¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his young-servant Jesus; whom you indeed gave up and denied him in the face of Pilate, when he had decided to release that man. ¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,

²⁸ Therefore, take-heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit placed you as overseers, to shepherd the congregation of the Lord and God, which the Lord acquired through his own blood. ²⁹ I know this: after my goodbye, cruel wolves will be entering into you, not sparing the flock; ³⁰ and men will be standing up from among yourselves, speaking perverse things, to pull away the disciples after themselves.

¹⁸ For such are not serving our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and they are deceiving the hearts of the guiltless through their smooth-talk and blessings.

²⁰ for you were bought with a price. Glorify God in your body and in your spirit which is God’s!

²³ You were bought with a price; do not become bondservants of men.

¹⁹ For it is essential for sects to be also among you, in order that those who are the approved ones may become apparent among you.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, workers of treachery, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And it is not a marvelous thing; for even the Adversary fashions himself into a messenger of light. ¹⁵ Therefore, it is no great thing if his servants are also fashioned like servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

⁴ But it was because of false brethren who were smuggled in, who entered in beside us to spy out our freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, in order that they might enslave us;

¹³ Christ bought us up out of the curse of the law, having become a curse on our behalf; for it has been written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs upon a tree,’

¹⁷ They are zealous for you in no good way. But they wish to lock you out from us, in order that you may be zealous for them.

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousies, furies, selfish ambitions, dissensions, sects,

⁷ in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of his grace.

¹⁴ in order that we may no longer be infants, bobbing on the waves and being carried around in every wind of teaching, in the trickery of men, in craftiness, toward the schemes of error.

¹⁹ whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly and whose glory is in their shame, who are mindful of earthly things.

⁸ Beware, that there will not be anyone there who is leading you away as his prey through philosophy and vain deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the fundamental principles of the world, and not according to Christ,

¹⁸ Let no one arbitrate against you, willing it so in your humility and in a religion of the messengers; stepping you^\'b0 further into the things which he has not seen, being vainly arrogant by his fleshly mind,

³ Do not let anyone deceive you in any manner, because that day will not come, if the apostasy does not come first and the man of sin, the son of destruction, should be revealed. ⁴ The one who lays in opposition to us and promotes himself against everyone being called a god or worshiped objects; so-that he sits in the temple of God as a god, showing himself–that he is a god. ⁵ Do you not remember that when I was still with you, I was speaking to you about these things? ⁶ And now you know what is holding him back, that he may be revealed in his own time. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness is already working; only there is one who is holding it back now, until he should become from the midst of us. ⁸ And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will be consuming with the breath of his mouth and will be doing-away-with him by the appearing of his presence; ⁹ even he, whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary in every power and in signs and in lying wonders, ¹⁰ and in all deception of unrighteousness in those who are perishing, because they did not accept the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God will be sending them a working of error, that they may believe in the lie; ¹² in order that they all might be judged who did not believe the truth, but were delighted in unrighteousness.

¹ But the Spirit expressly says, In later times some will be withdrawing from the faith, taking-heed to misleading spirits and teachings of demons, ² through the hypocrisy from the speakers of lies, having been branded in their own conscience; ³ forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from foods, which God created for reception with thanksgiving to the believing and those who have fully known the truth,

¹² if we endure, we will also be reigning together with him; if we are denying him, he will also be denying us; ¹³ if we are unfaithful, that one is remaining faithful; he is not able to deny himself.

¹ But know this, that grievous times will be present in the last days. ² For men will be lovers of themselves, money-lovers, braggarts, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ cold-hearted, implacable, slanderers, with no self-control, untamed, not lovers of good, ⁴ betrayers, rash, having been puffed up, loving sensual-delights rather than loving God; ⁵ holding to a form of godliness, but having denied its power. Now turn yourself away from these people. ⁶ For out of these people are those who are sneaking into houses and capturing immature women, who have been piled up with sins and are led away by various lusts, ⁷ always learning and never being able to come to the full knowledge of the truth. ⁸ Now in the manner that Jannes and Jambres stood against Moses so also, are these standing against the truth. Men having been utterly corrupted in their mind, unapproved concerning the faith. ⁹ But they will be progressing no more-than this. For their mindlessness will be obvious to all people, as that of those men also became.

³ For the time will be coming when they will not be tolerating the sound teaching, but having itchy ears, they will be piling up for themselves teachers according to their own lusts;

¹¹ whom it is essential to gag; men who are perverting whole houses, teaching things which they ought not teach, because of shameful gain.

¹⁰ Renounce a sectarian man after a first and second admonition;

²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think he will be deemed worthy of, after having trampled under foot the Son of God, and having deemed the blood of the covenant in which he was made holy as common, and having insulted the Spirit of the grace?

⁸ You love whom you have not seen; now you believe in whom you do not see; in both you are glad with unspeakable and glorified joy;

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

¹⁸ Children, it is the last hour and just-as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have become known; hence we know that it is the last hour. ¹⁹ They went out away from us, but they were not from us; for if they had been from us, they would have remained with us, but they went out, in order that they might be made manifest that all of them are not from us.

²⁶ I have written to you these things concerning those who are misleading you.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁴ For some men sneaked in among you, those who have been written about, from long-ago for this condemnation of the ungodly, those who are transferring the grace of our God into unbridled-lusts and denying our only Master, God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ that they were saying to you that in the last time there will be mockers, conducting-themselves according to their own lusts of ungodlinesses.

⁹ I know your works, your affliction and your poverty (but you are rich) and the blasphemy of those who saying about themselves they are Jews and they are not, but are a synagogue of the Adversary.

¹³ I know your works and where you dwell–where the Adversary’s throne is, and you are holding-fast my name and did not deny my faith in the days, in which my witness, the faithful Antipas was killed beside you, where the Adversary is dwelling.

⁸ I know your works (behold, I have given you an opened door which is in your sight, which no one is able to lock it), that you have little power and kept my word and did not deny my name.

⁹ And they are singing a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the book and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered and bought us in your blood for God out of every tribe and language and people and nation.

¹⁴ And the one who is misleading those of mine who are dwelling upon the earth because of the signs which was given to him to do in the sight of the beast, saying to those who dwell upon the earth to make an image to the beast, who was holding the wound of death from the sword and lived.
