⁹ If evil comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you, (for your name is in this house,) and cry out to you in our affliction and you will hear and save.

²⁴ An altar of earth you will make to me and will sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.

²¹ You* take heed before him and listen to his voice, provoke him not. For he will not pardon your* transgression, because my name is in him.

³³ When your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against you, if they turn again to you and confess your name and pray and make supplication to you in this house,

³⁷ If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there be,

²⁰ that your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place of which you have said that you would put your name there, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place.

²⁸ If there is in the land famine, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, locust or caterpillar, if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities, whatever plague or whatever sickness there be, ²⁹ whatever prayer and supplication be made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who will know every man his own plague and his own sorrow and will spread forth his hands toward this house, ³⁰ then hear you from heaven your dwelling-place and forgive and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know, (for you, even you only, know the hearts of the sons of men),

²⁰ For where two or three have been gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them.
